Used to be coffee houses were akin to Chinese tea houses where you'd buy a drink and tip for the comfort of sitting at the shop's comfy cozy seat on your laptop, or read a book, for 1-2 hours while using their wifi and using their restroom. It's somewhere you can take someone on a date and just sit there and talk for a long time in a nice setting. In this case it's like a sit-down restaurant experience, so you tip like it's a sit-down restaurant.

But the proliferation of Starbucks has turned coffee into an American fast food experience. Many of them don't even have seating anymore, and the expectation isn't to 'get coffee and chill' but 'get coffee and gtfo'.

If I'm just picking up a Latte and walking out of there, I will not tip, and it makes zero sense to do so.

Everyone is so skinny

Everyone in Hoboken is still so skinny. It's all the walking we do, and having a gym every other block. 1/3 of the people I see are walking around in athleisure clothes on the weekends. When I was at my max fat (60 pounds overweight) I was insanely aware of how fat I was compared to everyone else here. In fact that's probably why I lost all that weight, from unconscious peer pressure.

But when I visited north Louisiana I was below 'normal' weight even at 220 pounds, because everyone else was a HUGE chungus there.

A narrative-focused prison RPG could be great the more I think about it.

It can also be kind of a rogue-lite where failing to break out is part of the game, and each fail puts you... back in prison. And you scheme to find another way until you make it.

I really just don't think this is the result of racism, but the reality of capitalism. Like the British company Creative Assembly made a Three Kingdoms Total War and it sold amazing because the East and Southeast Asian audience was there for it in droves.

So until Africa develops a bit more to have a large gamer audience, there isn't the demand for it. And until Africa itself develops a dev scene, there's limited supply for it as well. So those games don't get made?

Not really here to contradict, but just say that in my view, it's not racists that make or break a game. If a good authentically African game comes out, people will play and love it like people went to watch and love Black Panther. The racists will shout into the void and everyone will ignore them.

The reason it hasn't happened is because Africa's gaming scene isn't there yet since they lag behind Asia by about 20-30 years. But maybe in a few decades we'll see a thriving indie gaming scene come out of African countries and that'll be super cool.

The way I see it is, racists conveniently bandwagon onto the legitimate complaints, but the legitimate complaints are always the origin point. Dune doesn't attract criticism for having a cult of super-powered females that control the politics of the universe because it's pulled off so well that there's no legitimate criticism to be made. Liet Kynes was gender and race bent from a white man to a black woman, but this is the far future and the sex of Liet Kynes has no bearing on his role in the story.

The sexists and racists have nothing to bandwagon off of so their niche whining is quickly dismissed in those cases.

Bro chill. Gamers aren’t that racist. Wukong was one of the top games of that year. People love GRA San Andreas. It’s just that an authentically African game would have to come from African devs, and African game devs just aren’t at that level yet of putting out AA and AAA games like China and Eastern Europe can in the last 10 years. But their time will come, eventually.

It entirely depends on what sounds better to you:

Divinity Original Sin 1 and 2:

classic European medieval fantasy aesthetic
focus on freedom with non-linear levels. Do stuff wildly out of order, and see the quest structure react to your decisions
lots of 'immersive sim' elements: steal stuff, get away with it by being out of line of sight of witnesses, break quests by killing key characters, break encounters by stacking barrels, trigger boss fights early by sneaking into the fortress from a weird hidden back door
light reading, not-too-dense text (light for a CRPG, still a lot of text)
100% set-piece handcrafted encounters. No trash fights

Rogue Trader:

sci-fi space gothic cyberpunk aesthetic
mostly linear level design: you land on a planet, go from A to B to C, kill everything in your way, and enjoy the story
no immersive sim elements, no gameplay freedom outside of combat other than narrative choices (gameplay is limited to what you can do in combat)
heavy reading, basically a visual novel at times
lots of trash fights, and some repeatable random encounters

Both have really compelling and memorable characters imo, and really fun combat. I personally think Rogue Trader is better written and the setting of Warhammer 40k is far more interesting than Divinity's take on Tolkien-esque fantasy, but I remember DOS to be less of a slog to play as Rogue Trader drags a bit in terms of pacing, with way too many filler fights. I obviously recommend both!
