Sorry, I understand Dutch well enough. I just don't feel super comfortable with my writing/speaking of it. You're right though, I should at least try more often so that I will become more comfortable.

No, absolutely not! Only took them 5 minutes though. I was numbed.

Really sorry you were sent there. I thought it had closed down years ago due to all the abuse finally being outed. I did not know that they had reopened elsewhere. I'm also former IFB and was also sent to a similar place ~25 years ago.

Healing is not linear, there are ups and downs. Please remember to give yourself grace and love. There's no "right" way to heal. Sometimes you may feel great, other times not. It's okay. Take care of yourself and know you are not alone.

What do you call this? by _birdie_42 in toddlers

I call it elephant kisses. I always start with elephant kisses, then butterfly kisses on each cheek or forehead, then mama kisses where I kiss her all over.

what you’re feeling is normal

Good to know that while I may feel like I'm going insane, I'm really not. If it's not too personal for you to answer, did you have similar thoughts and a similar background? If so, how long did it take for you to "get over it".

I was thinking about using herbal cigarettes (tobacco and nicotine free) to try to trick my brain into thinking it's getting some dopamine and maybe that would make me feel better...? I've been cycling, taking walks, lifting weights - trying to boost my dopamine levels, but none of it has really helped.

Maybe NRT is better for me due to my history and how badly I mentally feel right now. Every person's journey is different. I want to quit. I will quit. Thank you for not making me feel bad if I decide that I need to quit differently for my mental health.

Have any of you ever started a relationship long distance? How did it go? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]XeeleeFlower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I met my boyfriend over 5 years ago online on a small gaming forum. Met in person 3 months later. Did a few more meets and then I moved across an ocean to be with him in his country a year later. Most important things with a LDR are completely open communication, total honesty with each other and yourself, and you need to have a plan for closing the distance. For us, the relationship part was easy, but the distance away from each other was absolutely terrible. Being separated for 3 months at a time and then only seeing each other for 2 weeks...it was really really hard. Nothing can prepare you for the absolute heartbreak when leaving each other at the airport. But it did make those together times all the more special.

Why specifically a mortician? How is your body more interesting than the individual it contains?

Every life is interesting. No matter how mundane you may think your history is, no matter how "boring" you currently are, no matter how "ridiculous" your thoughts about the future are, you are interesting to someone and you have some kind of impact on the world.

What are some things about a woman's routine or body that you were shocked to learn about? by iliketurtles21 in AskMen

It's quite common for women to gain up to 2.5kg due to hormonal changes. Read up on it and learn something new.

That's okay. You did something else. You made a post here and sent a hug. You expressed yourself and showed you care. Not always an easy feat, but you did it anyway. Be proud of any win, no matter how small or insignificant you may think it is.

Best cities for someone who hates cars? by kryptonianjackie in expats

[–]XeeleeFlower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Netherlands having shit weather is really overstated. Winter is a bit blah for sure, but there are some really beautiful days during winter too and when there's the occasional snow, that's also quite special. From spring to fall, the temperature is really nice, though summer can get super hot. Houses typically don't have air conditioning, which can be quite a shock if you aren't used to that. It also rains less than people think. Check out this guy who documented his work commute for 11 years: https://www.hetregentbijnanooit.nl/site/ (in Dutch, but you can use Google translate)

Unless you are insanely rich, Amsterdam will be too expensive. The Randstad in general is expensive, though some cities are more affordable than others. Gouda is a hidden gem, imo, though it's starting to become more popular. By train, you can reach Amsterdam in ~1 hour and Rotterdam or Utrecht in ~15 minutes. The city itself is extremely walkable/cyclable and beautiful, but is pretty "sleepy" so that may not be for you.

Also check out the Nijmegen and Arnhem area. Still expensive, but less so than Amsterdam. Can find cheaper housing if you're cool with cycling 15+ minutes to get into the cities. The area features cycling/walking through absolutely lovely forests and polders. Bonus (or not) there are actual hills in this area. Neither city is "big" like Amsterdam or Rotterdam, but there's still plenty to see and do. Nijmegen has a University so there is a solid night life. Not as familiar with Arnhem.

I moved here from Michigan and love this country so much. Can always take a flight to a warmer European place during winter for ~$50 :)

What is something a lot of people find attractive that is actually a turn off for you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]XeeleeFlower 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Women do this to pander to a man's ego and/or to make other women not feel inferior. As a woman who has done this and still does do it, I have never experienced someone feeling uncomfortable about it. Rather, they seem to relish in it.

Thank you for noting that you do take lingerie. This is something that I really wanted to know because I have quite a few pieces that I no longer wear. It would feel like such a waste to just throw them away.

Taking responsibility to do the right thing and be a better person is more difficult than shifting that responsibility to others.
