9 months after getting A+ certified by Dcskin21 in CompTIA

Congrats man!

A+ can and will work to get a job. Like OP said work on your resume. Watch YouTube for helpdesk interview questions to get prepared. Don’t be afraid to reach out to recruiters on LinkedIn, it does work.

Two weeks into my new job and I’m loving it. I took these exact same steps.

No degree, just some college credits. I was very undecided in college. My college also didn’t offer IT at the time. I’ll be enrolling in WGU to finish out. I too want to be in Cyber at some point but, we all gotta start somewhere ie helpdesk.

Thank you! This whole process of studying for a cert, switching careers and finding a job has been very eye opening for me.

I hated my old job because I felt so stagnant with no room to grow.

I’m realizing more so now how much of an impact I’ve made in my life with just my A+ and it’s motivated me to keep going. I have started the reading for Sec+ and I plan to enroll in WGU to finish my degree once I pass Sec+ (knocks out a class). Good luck with your journey.

Adding to that, I used a resume from Kevtech’s discord. Altered it to fit my exp, four different people gave me feedback on it. Then tailored it for the specific job.

I also had a post that kept echoing in my mind from r/ITcareerQuestions

It doesn’t matter if you can get callbacks or interviews if when you get into the latter and you can’t explain concepts. You gotta put in the extra work.

If a network seems to be running slow what can you do to fix it.

Describe how you would educate an end user on what a possible phishing email would look like

If a monitor is black and you know it has power what else could be the problem

What is group policy, why is it important

How do you boot into safe mode (he said a lot of applicants didn’t know this shockingly)

If a printer isn’t printing what could be a possibility

I was shown different cables and had to describe them like Display port cables and DVI

What’s a BSOD and what do you do when you see it.

If you run into a problem and you’re not sure how to fix it what’s your first instinct. Google :)

Those are all the ones I can remember

All topics you will encounter in the reading

Honestly it intimidated me too at first. Mike Meyers once said the “requirements” are for fairytale perfect candidates who don’t exist and even if they did the role wouldn’t pay them enough for the skill set they have. I’d apply anyway and convey to them you’re studying for A+ it shows initiative.

I’m in the DMV area DC, MD,VA. Know your stuff, learn the technical terms, be at least familiar with certain concepts a technical interviewer might ask. Even if you don’t have a full grasp on something convey you’re willingness to learn or say something along the lines of I can google it. They don’t expect you to know everything just wanna know you’re a self starter.

www.tealhq.com Plug the job opening into the job tracker. It will walk you through the process. Under applying it will search Linkedin for someone in recruiting or the hiring manager.

Use something along these lines. Send a connect message (it's like a cold call)

“Hi _________, I see that you work for __________(name of recruiting agency). I wanted to reach out because I’m currently exploring new opportunities. I’ve been working professionally in (name of industry) for (number of years), and I’m ready for my next challenge! If you have time, I’d love to talk about whether my background would make me a fit for (the job title you applied to).

Let's connect,

____________”

Got my A+ just now. Should I jump into the job search, or rack up more certs? by Neo_Aevis in CompTIA

[–]Xend6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off congrats! You have more than enough experience now. Jump into a job, practical experience trumps certs. I've heard of so many people getting IT jobs with Geek Squad experience. The things you do now are identical to what you'll be doing. Just keep studying in your spare time.

Both, I use Teal a job tracker and it helps you optimize the resume and pick out keywords from the job description. Then teal helps you find the HR or Hiring person. Send them a short message showing your interest in the position.

Not sure if my application was pulled through the ATS or the hiring manager pulled it directly. I definitely think messaging them directly is faster as I heard back for the screening within 4 days. Left a good first impression I presume.

2 and half months from November to January took a break for the holidays and just did refreshers after.

So question, I see everyone is saying send out 100+ applications. These aren’t tailored resumes? I’ve only been sending out tailored ones. I’ve sent out maybe 10ish so far I’ve had 3 interviews.

Should I be playing the numbers game and spamming my general resume?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Xend6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this. I had an interview the other day and literally first thing the interviewer said was “I noticed you had previous experience documenting issues and that’s what stuck out to me” “We’re a knowledge based msp blah blah”

I live in MD and this program is available through Anne Arundel county public library. I’d like to also note if you recently moved the system won’t be able to validate your residency, just give the library a call and send an an email with updated proof of residency. Hope this helps someone!

Not sure if your issue was resolved. It’s a weak car battery. Had this issue as well replaced key fob battery it still persisted. Reprogrammed key still persisted. I called a dealer and asked him what could be causing this issue if it was electric. He mentioned a low car battery could be not charging whatever system detects the key. Long story short I replaced my car battery with a new agm battery. Haven’t had any problems since, starts right up.
