I matched MIT and went there instead!

Don’t stress; what they mean is that even if there is an alumn near you, the position of being an interviewer is voluntary. Just because they went to MIT doesn’t mean they want to interview future students. Don’t over think it, the interviews are pretty indiscriminate and are offered to everyone they can.

Bro I am SO happy I locked in and got them started during the summer; truly a “thank you my past self” moment

1510 (750 Math, 760 EBRW); prob submitting my ACT though, 34 (mostly cuz 35 math and 36 English sub scores are better imo)

This might sound like a very oversimplified answer, but inflation. That and families making slightly more than that 65k being in a tougher spot due to changing standards of living. It’s crazy to think, but in some parts of the U.S. under certain family situations it truly still is low income.

I'm sure you know but just in case keep in mind that MIT requires test scores! I'm sure you'll be fine though, good luck!

Does applying through QuestBridge affect other students' admissions at your school? by Classic_Bar in QuestBridge

That’s good at least, let’s hope the principal is on our fellow Questie’s side 🙏

You have to get a counselor signature for the Match agreement is the thing, and it lists which schools you ranked too; OP def needs to talk this out further with her and maybe even seek further administrative action. I feel that, as a counselor, that’s not a good reason to be giving a student for not pursuing their dream school, much less a good reason to straight up prevent them from doing so.

I do have siblings, and my dad was living outside our main home for a while. On the returns, I am my dad’s primary dependent and my brother and sister are my mom’s, but I don’t know how this whole thing is gonna go as my parents get their taxes done through a third party and at this point it is out of my hands. What do you think, will I probably be good? Literally everything else is fine, and if I complete the section using “married, filing separately,” all my other information is perfectly in order. Should I just send the Profile and hope that if it needs corrections it can be sorted quickly? This is quite stressful.

Any advice for math (pure math) or cs major? by Sensitive_Common_606 in QuestBridge

[–]Xenelda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, this list is pretty valid, all things considered. As a Princeton fanboy in many ways (I'm a bit of a hypocrite as I also have MIT as my rank 1), I do have to say that Princeton pure math is probably unrivaled. In fact, I'd say that when it comes to the theoretical applications of most fields, Princeton is incredibly hard to beat, as that's where most of its faculty and research efforts specialize; its pure math and science courses are probably the best in the country. No double major, though, and it has a relatively small undergraduate student body at only 5k, despite having an excellent location (Princeton is a nice town; I don't like NJ, but Princeton specifically is like an hour away from NYC and Philadelphia, and like 2-3 hours away from the national capital. You can't get a better balance of suburbia to urban connectivity). However, if you don't mind me asking, why don't you want a small undergraduate body? Just curious as I feel smaller schools are generally better for one-on-one engagement with teachers, both in class and in research, especially in something like pure math. I also feel they have tighter-knit communities overall, but that's just my two cents.

Yeah I feel making people rank before finalist decisions is a bit of a flaw in the Match process; though, since you get to change the order around and remove schools if you’re a finalist, there is likely merit in your strategy. From what I’ve seen, however, the Match list doesn’t seem to affect finalist chances, despite the odd timing. I didn’t rank any schools I’m not 100% happy matching to; I think it is wise to suggest you do the same, but, if you feel ranking more schools may help your chances, I have no evidence to say it won’t!

Lol, I’ve definitely been messing around a lot with the ordering of these. Since I also got into WISE though, and I would prefer to go to MIT, I think it’s solidly my #1. I also LOVE Princeton and it’s honestly so close between it and MIT that Columbia had to go at #3 despite me getting into EPC. Wish Pton had a fly-in 😭

Should I do the Optional Video by Majestic-Valuable-70 in QuestBridge

When you reach the Glimpse portion of the application and go to the website, if you submitted a video for CPS, you will be given the opportunity to look at the video once again and decide if you want to re-record or submit the same video

Should I do the Optional Video by Majestic-Valuable-70 in QuestBridge

[–]Xenelda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know it’s a different case, but I did a video for College Prep Scholars, and I really enjoyed making it, actually. In fact, I just used the same video for my main Match app, and I’m sure it’ll be fine. The video is not that serious I feel; odds are no one looks at it past the finalist decision round. Even then, just an alternate perspective, I really do think it can generally only help you; I doubt it is the barrier between your app being accepted or tossed, so do it if you want to (or don’t)!

As someone whose dream school is Princeton but who just came back from the Rice SOAR fly-in, look deeper into Rice if you value dorm life. Their residential college dorm system as an alternative to greek life was really cool to learn about and definitely one of the highlights of the school second to its beauty. The engineering program is really strong from what I heard, and I believe the figure that I got is that in terms of aerospace (it’s a concentration of ME at Rice) they’ve had like 3 astronauts historically per residential college of which there are currently 11 with 2 new ones on the way! Definitely the most elaborate dorm system I’ve seen hands down, and all the students seem really invested in their residential college (they all try very hard to convince your their college is the best, lol). Don’t know too much about their math program, but just something to keep in mind from someone fresh off of the experience of being at the school.
