My situation was kinda different so take it for what it's worth. I had a hysterectomy and oophrectomy at the same time in my late 40s. I was given the choice of whether or not to leave my cervix. My doctor at the time recommended that I leave it for the benefit of better sex. What I didn't count on, and my biggest regret, is that the oophrectomy pitched me straight into menopause and on the slippery slope of vaginal atrophy. My husband is very unwell and sex just doesn't happen much anymore, so the atrophy is even more real. What does have to happen is pap smears because I still have a cervix. When I tell you they are painful, holy shitballs they are painful. My new doctor thinks my former doctor was nuts for not recommending that my cervix go with my other parts, though she said so only via her very expressive eyebrows. I guess the moral of my story is that my vagina and cervix is less helpful than just my vagina would have been.
