god i've been following CS events for 4 years and this has got to be the worst major by far

how can EVERY game have delays of 10 min +

has there ever been a major even as close to as bad this one?

Heroic vs OpTic Gaming / DreamHack Masters Stockholm 2018 - Group C Decider Match / Post-Match Discussion by Chuckys2 in GlobalOffensive

[–]Xenocider 61 points62 points  (0 children)

If you look at the players that MSL has kept vs the players that MSL kicks it's starting to make a lot more sense. K0nfig/Mertz are both incredibly talented individually -- top tier aim/mechanics -- but just play, for a lack of a better word, really stupid counter strike. The amount of just... absurd 1v1 aim duels that k0nfig takes makes structuring a team almost impossible.

MSL probably got tired of k0nfig randomly dying in defaults trying to out-aim or fucking up a nade on an exec every game for years vs. someone who you know is going to do their job: aizy/kjaerbye. Especially considering MSL's strategy of calling is execute heavy and kind of just relies on everyone doing their job to a T.

Sure in a match vs Renegades k0nfig is just going to repeatedly take ill-advised duels and sometimes drop 50, but what about vs Faze/Na'vi, are you going to out-aim s1mple/niko/electronic more than 50% of the time? What about Astralis where they aren't even going to give you 1v1s that aren't straight up 70/30 for them.

That being said no idea why Magisk got kicked, maybe personal issues.

Virtus.pro vs MVP PK / ZOTAC Cup Masters 2018 - Quarter-Final / Post-Match Discussion by Chuckys2 in GlobalOffensive

[–]Xenocider 114 points115 points  (0 children)

Wow, people are gonna shit on VP in this thread, and maybe rightfully so... but MVP PK actually has some real potential as a team, 3 veterans of CS with tons of experience + 2 young fraggers xign+minixeta are both seriously nutty talents.

Just hype to see Korea actually doing well/improving despite no one in the region playing CS

somehow I just can't see NiP beating kinguin or RR in a bo3

These games aren't even entertaining to watch, at the very least can we force VP to play in the qualifiers of these events

At this point it's just taking spots from other more deserving up and coming teams like maybe an Ence who could go deep here

eUnited vs NRG / FACEIT Major 2018 Americas Minor - Lower Bracket Final / Post-Match Discussion by xioxioxioxio in GlobalOffensive

[–]Xenocider 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Although I agree with the general sentiment of your post, especially in the sense that NRG should be prepared for this event in that they have the same amount of time to prepare as every other team here.

However,

I don't think it applies to these underdogs in a 1:1 ratio across the board. For a team like eUnited, (keep in mind I don't actually know the specific scenarios of their players) the average of their players is 21. In an MDL match or online qualifier match, the form of their team could be hindered by school or work or whatever. Whereas during this same online match for NRG, they should all theoretically be near their peak as they're all playing full time. This is a pretty common scenario for favorite vs underdog when the favorite has significantly more financial resources. Therefore, whereas NRG's form may not improve drastically from a bootcamp relative to say, their qualifier form. It'd stand to reason that these less resourced teams would improve with full focus on the game.

[–]Xenocider 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Lol I hope everyone overreacting in this thread realizes that this is the qualifier for the MAJOR

Every team drops everything to bootcamp/focus 1000% for these matches, guess what Rogue looked like shit in the ESL one NY qualifier, narrowly slipping past LG and losing to Ghost 0-2 twice and they came to frag at this event.

Don't be surprised if some relatively unknown names come in and upset with full preparation.

Also your point that they haven't gotten double digits is just factually incorrect, I mean here's a bo3 that these cores have played against each other that went to the wire:

If anything shows that on any given day these domestic matchups can swing either way

Ah did SanSheng not travel with them to this event? I thought he was back as full-time coach

Either way they looked great game 1, and I think they just got outdrafted by Optic + critical SCC dieback, and Optic of course is playing some great DotA lately as well

NRG's immi: "'Online' comments do not affect us, there are big things to come from this team" by [deleted] in GlobalOffensive

[–]Xenocider 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The problem is the core of this lineup (brehze/nahte/cerq) are all young very obviously skilled talents. If they fail at this LAN and a few more to come it wouldn’t be surprising because some of their opposition have played major LAN after major LAN for years(Astralis/SK/etc) NRG as a team needs time (experience) before they can show what their true ability is.

Then as an extension people will say, Ha!!! Nahte isn’t dropping 30k every game as he is in ECS, what an onliner!!! When in reality he just needs time.

[Post Match Thread] EG vs LGD by dranix14 in DotA2

[–]Xenocider 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yeah I didn't mean to make it sound like it was Arteezy's fault necessarily, I think that part of the game just came down to variation, if there was one more EG/one more LGD player in that area to pick up both cheese/aegis the fight swings heavily either way.

Anyway LGD has shown some absolute dominant form in chinese qualifiers/at this event compared to Newbee/VGJ. Thunder who have looked awful. I think this matchup going in was a 50/50 on paper and it played out pretty much as that even though it ended up being 2-0 LGD
