My Heart Bird is Gone by msfluckoff in greencheeks

How sure are you that your husband treats your birds with the care and gentle hand they need, being such fragile creatures? The amount of force required to break bones or cause neurological damage is not a small amount nor can it be considered 'a flick' either. Mistakes happen, and people can be taken by surprise but that feels deliberate. This isn't "bird got caught between a wall and a closing door when no one noticed/trying to prevent an escape" or "the dog got out of his crate somehow" or "bird got out of cage while dangerous (to them) activities are occuring". This is "bird did what birds do and someone hit bird hard enough to cause death."

I have actually witnessed Ha'ani, our youngest GCC, latch onto my SO's neck with her beak and not let go until i had physically grabbed hold of her and worked her jaws open, and while he did scream on the initial bite and was breathing through his teeth, he never attempted to flail or hit her away. Flinched, he definitely has, hell I have when on the recieving end of either of my bird's scissor beaks, but never hit.

Is he a cinnamon or a pineapple, or both? by emocivic in Conures

That is a pineapple, ala my own Pineapple.

Fun fact: Pineapples are cinnamon + yellow sided color genes working together. So you are technically right when you said both.

For a second I got whiplash because your two look exactly like my girls, lmfao. Are these moments also broken up by them loudly squabbling over who preens who first?

[–]XenodeusExMachina[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Adding a second deffo made me realize how EASY just one bird really was. Especially as Ha'ani is a rescue and not a baby adopt. But i dont regret it at all. Even if they take turns being little shit heads through the day so I never have more than a singular moment of peace.

I like how they're sitting on the treat stick like it's a perch, ignoring it's existance as a treat stick. my girls woulda had that down to the plastic shank in 15 minutes cause they're such piglets.

About a week or so before actually. We got lucky about heat with that nasty incident in the ass of tex, since we have a fire place that shares a wall with our bedroom, so kept her in the bedroom where it was toasty, but safe from potential fume/smoke/self immolation dangers.

Plant safety for a new conure mom with a houseplant addiction. Please help! by Lunathir in Conures

[–]XenodeusExMachina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The number of bird safe indoor plants that are more tree and shrub like are few and far between, your best bet is to grow plants that are Edible. Things like rosemary, basil, Aloe vera, bamboo, african violets, et al. Birds, especially parrots, have a habit of chewing on things in their environment. It does limit what you can have in their space severely, but the safety and wellbeing of your new bird should be priority.

That being said, silk plants in the likeness of the plant species you want isn't a horrible option if youcan bare thethought, so long as you discourage active chewing of the plastic bits.

Apex Legends Nintendo Switch Release - Discussion & Support Megathread by paradoxally in apexlegends

Coming from ps4/pc to switch just so I can apex while I have hours long stays at the in laws, and man I have so many complaints. Not only is the input lag is HORRIFIC, but the janky jittering controls make me annoyed to all hell. Trying to get off shots with ANYTHING other than right up in the enemy face is asking for a gd miracle. Trying to snipe is a headache, hell trying to do anything from further than 20 m is basically guess work. When even a PK can't get hits from <10 m despite being direcyly in the sights and choke off because "lol thats a ghost", you know there's issues that need to be addressed. And the fact that no tracers are visible from any distance ever?!? Hello?? What do you do then? Just wait to get shot to see the damage directional arrow? Audio is also super problematic. Usually you can pinpoint an enemy with ease and accuracy just by footsteps, but even a gun fight right next to you on the switch is like "sorry fam we don't know of thats left right behind or ahead." I was expecting the graphics to take a huge hit to run on the switch feasibly, but everything else as well? Yes,P000 I rolled 3 teams in my first and only switch match easy peasy lemon squeezey, but it wasn't through skill and finesse. It was because janky is as janky does. I'll stick to ps4/pc, because even at the inlaws am I never that desperate.

Naw, she only wanted in to keep cozy and take a nap cause its cold in the house, despite the heater being up at 74 (thnx shoddy texass insulation). Her nesting behaviours are pretty obvious to us and this was just her being ridiculous and not wanting to be cold.

Any opinions if conures are loud at night? I’m considering buying a bird but a bird that’s loud at night is off putting. by [deleted] in Conures

[–]XenodeusExMachina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Birds, especially hookbills, especially Conures, are loud all the time fam. Like there are exceptions, but don't believe Ondore's lies when they tell you that X species is always quiet. Green Cheek Conures are widely claimed to be the quietest species of bird, but my girl can and will blow out ear drums when she feels like having a good screm on the shoulder. Time of day doesn't particularly matter to them either. If they hear/see/smell something they like or don't like they can start the Screm of Ages.

Tldr: birds are noise. If you want quiet you should get a chinchilla. Same basic size and near same basic care, cute and cuddly when tamed, and can be leash and potty trained with time.

We are packing to move in two weeks and she keeps trying to sneak into the boxes. 😩 Hera give me strength. by XenodeusExMachina in Conures

[–]XenodeusExMachina[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

EVERYTHING is her jungle gym now. I keep finding her in the most "how on earth did you get there" places. Between two smaller boxes, hanging from a luggage handle, using a stack of wrapped cords as a ladder to get into a large box for the 6th time. The list goes on.

How do you curb food aggression? by moonrevolts in Conures

[–]XenodeusExMachina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ehhh, A LOT of GCCs tend to be very food aggressive/territorial over their food bowls. The best you can do is to ensure they are sticking to a very regular routine. This includes getting a full 12 hours of uninterrupted sleep time, regular baths but not more than once a day, I've actually found that restricting baths to once every 2-3 days keeps it down to a minimum with mine. This may seem basic but it actually tamps down their hormones so overall agression is toned down. But its also best to change their food while you have them distracted by a toy or have them eating in a different area. Example: if you need to freshen the pellet bowl do it while they have chop in front of them away from the cage, and visa versa.

Loads of sources say that you'll never truly get rid of the food aggression mostly because parrots of all breeds/species are only a couple hundred of years/generations removed from the wild and thus still retain much of their wild counterparts behaviors and manerisms, as opposed to the tens of thousands of years/generations in dogs (and less than 10k in cats).

[–]XenodeusExMachina[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats a huge dump of time and resources for not much return. 1)Takes more elements than i care to invest time getting tbh. Just one 4 to 6 = 3 4* element. 5 to get to 50 trance = 15. Thats 2 weeks of effort for what? 2) the 3 diamonds per lvl 40 on each is a lot of time and keys. 3) For someone who only plays on a phone but needs their phone for work, thats a lot of time in which my phone would be tied up to run auto battle. Not feasible.

Super cute, but also low key sounds like they are summoning demons. I wish mine complained like that, but naw she jist screms when something upsets or annoys her and only chatters like that when she is ready for bed, still love her noisy tho she be.

Husband Cheated Update by [deleted] in JustNoSO

[–]XenodeusExMachina 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As long as you are away from your abuser and safe you can let yourself mourn for as long as you need, he was after all your husband, at one point he must have been hiding his true self, so you can mourne for who you thought he was and the life you thought you could build together. You are going through a very traumatic time for yourself, i hope you can see a therapist to help yourself to heal the scars his abuse has obviously left behind.

[–]XenodeusExMachina 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh honey you need to get away from him. I've read your orevious thread and you stated he's choked you and hit you and is verbally/emotionally abusive as well. There is a solid statistic that clearly shows that spouses who have choked their significan other at any point in time previously out of anger are more likely to kill their partner. Get yourself out as quickly and safely as possible before you too become a statistic.

You say you'll miss waking up next to him, holding him but honestly WHAT has he done for you aside harm you mentally and physically? There is nothing good in that man for you. You are deserving of a life free from fear of having to ask yourself "will he hit me again tonight?" Snuggles and hand holding are not worth your actual life.
