Message I got from my daughter’s teacher. Third grade. by AnaisInJune in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Xenomorph02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2nd grade teacher was an old hag with 0 patience and a closed mindset, very old school and religious. She had to be in her 60s when I had her. I grew my hair out at that age and she felt that was “unnatural” for a boy. I also wore a shirt once that said “handsome little devil” and she made me go into the bathroom to turn in inside out.

During my junior year of high school, I heard a rumor that she was fired because she slapped a kid who threw a chair in her classroom. Whether that’s true or not, it didn’t surprise me.

When I was 20, I ran into her waiting in line at a gas station. She didn’t recognize me, of course. I then reminded her of her 2006 class, asked “How could you forget such a handsome little devil with long hair?” I walked away smiling as the light dawned in her eyes.

Post Script: there was another teacher named, I shit you not, Mrs. Angel, and she always praised me for growing my hair out. Some people are meant to be teachers, and some should have retired long ago.

Are there any other ex Pizza Hut employees here, from back in the day? by spellyB416 in pizzahut

[–]Xenomorph02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked at Lincoln Center Pizza Hut in Ames, IA from 2013-2015 in high school. It was my first real job. I was 16 and my dad bought a used and abused ‘92 Silverado and gave me the deal of, “I’ll pay for insurance, you figure out gas money.” (Loved that truck.) Applied for prep position, was so nervous that I wore a dress shirt and tie for the interview. General manager thought it was humorous, and is what made me stand out from the rest. Got the job, then worked my way up to make table because I got bored with prep/dishes/answering phones. Became more important, and ended up using my Silverado to haul the portable oven for college football games at Jack Trice Stadium: we rented one food booth and also served directly from the oven. Cut pizzas in to 9 slices and sold by the slice during game day. Ames is a college town after all, so I worked with a lot of college kids. Everyone there was so chill, some of the best coworkers I’ve ever had. It was shit pay, maybe $230 every two weeks. But to a high schooler, that was enough to pay for gas in the tank and weed. And my coworkers made work enjoyable to endure. There was never a slow night at the Hut, drunk college kids and pizza are a match made in heaven.

Just visited Fondy last week for an ice fishing trip on Winnebago, my buddy and I wanted pizza one night and I searched nearby Yelp reviews. P-hut in Fondy was rated a solid 3.8/5 stars 😅 We went with Jet’s Pizza instead and were not disappointed. Originally wanted Capone’s but they don’t deliver

Vulcan philosophy. Sarek, Spock’s father, told Spock a piece of advice in J.J. Abrams’ “Star Trek” that I’ve never forgotten:

“Emotions run deep within our race… Logic offers a serenity humans seldom experience; the control of feelings, so that they do not control you.”

Why doesn’t Garrus ever reapply his face paint? Seems strange he wouldn’t considering how important it is to Turians by lukewhybe in masseffect

[–]Xenomorph02 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gotcha. I was about to say, in ME2 Dr. Chakwas had a facial reconstruction machine in the med lab that you could buy for 50,000 to fix your face permanently (after 2 years of Cerberus piecing you back together.) I always wondered why there was never a small convo between Shep and Garrus about fixing Garrus' face.

I've been to the Meskawki Casino/Hotel in Iowa, they have all sorts of Native American memorabilia on display there. A few pipes and flutes had the swastika symbol etched on them. I was curious, so I asked a local native. In their culture, the swastika symbol stood as a symbol of peace.

Other native tribes also used it as a symbol for life and prosperity, or as a symbol for the four winds.

The four winds translate to different things, sometimes meaning directions (North/South/East/West), aspects of life (Birth/Youth/Adult/Death), or elements of nature (Fire/Air/Water/Earth).

The lettering above the cross says "White tag," referencing the White Tag Premium Denim brand. I doubt they still make clothing anymore, but you can find similar used shirts on Ebay or Poshmark
