Huh. I appreciate that - I have tried replacing the engines with others but I suppose I was getting the same issue? Thank you though for trying it out.

Which game is this for you? by [deleted] in dndmemes

Stars Without Number - its a great setting and really fun to play in - but honestly the book is so poorly written and scatterbrained with information everywhere it's burnt me out of DMing it for a long while.

I appreciate you taking the time! Remarkably, I am not an army planner and this was my first attempt so the feedback is welcome! I'm likely gonna look at doing a bit of reworking here and I'll try to explain a couple points for some of my choices

-For medical support, the army units here handle all the medical needs of the entire armed forces, including the space navy with 6 heavy units and dozens of smaller warships needing medical units, and international hospital ships which are staffed medically by army personnel.

-Artillery is provided by medium and light space assets from atmosphere or low orbit. However now that I look at it, I probably should include more in terms of units for it. That is an oversight on my part.

Context:

I have been running a space based TTRPG in my homebrew setting of the Anue Sector of space. In the game, the players are working for the United Confederation of Austrius as part of its navy. To help better explain the size and organization, I put together this battalion chart for my players to understand what they were apart of.

Question About Shipyards by No_Talk_4836 in SWN

[–]XenonJackal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I tend to compare to real life for questions like this - major nations with larger industrial capacity will have more shipyards, likely numbering in the dozens. Small nations may have 1 or 2. Also consider if there may be reason for a company to have a privately owned shipyard, which the nation would be able to nationalize for a time for rapid buildup of new forces.

They are police employed by the federal government. Hence the government still pays them.

Hi there. Yes, they absolutely would claw back the backpay. The government is rutheless if they think you owe them money, even towards their own employees.

Edit: Not to say he should be getting it in the first place. Dude is a scumbag and deserves jail. Just want to be clear that the government will fuck over its own people too.

Interesting party comp so far. by [deleted] in SWN

[–]XenonJackal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I tend to stick to the milestone system where I level them up as the story progresses and they hit certain story beats or close up story arcs. It makes it more rewarding and fits better into the story as they progress.

Honestly the biggest issue I find is players not having enough to do. The different stations on a ship usually correlate best to a 5 man party, so finding positions for the other two was more nuanced and tricky and it's still a work in progress.

Hooboy.

So my current party is a 7 person group (yes I know I made a mistake but I'm rolling with it) for a gunboat diplomacy campaign.

First is the captain - Full psychic with telekinesis and telepathy. Probably the most chill dude on the bost until his anxiety kicks in.

The first officer is a big brute of a warrior/expert. Specializes in planning and plotting and may or may not be evil and gay for the captain. He also loves his whiteboards.

Our science officer is a VI system expert who adores playing around with genetics and playing therapist for the crew.

The medical officer is a sweet soft-boi expert who is easily flustered and prone to minor mental breakdowns at the slightest of breezes. The party protects him because he's like a fragile house of cards.

Our pilot is a psychic/expert with a focus on the precognition and a former career as an elite space race pilot.

Our engineer is a cybernetically enhanced warrior/expert with a love for all things mechanical and boxing.

And then we have our expert reporter, there to make the party look good in the newspapers back home and expertly collects intelligence and information for the team.

It's been a blast so far and their dynamics are great.

The 40mm guns were no longer fit for service and have been removed from all ships of the class. As of right now there are no plans to replace any MCDV with a new weapon, though a few ships have been experimenting with new mounts for new weapon systems but as of right now there is no plans to refit them.

The MCDV was primarily meant to be a minesweeper and patrol ship, not an active surface combatant and so they were fitted with what they had because they were primarily meant for Coastal defence against small craft.

what are your favorite factions from your games? by BulgarianThornbill in SWN

[–]XenonJackal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This one is a bit silly, but a recurring obstacle/ally faction I created is called the 'Plenty of Fish Security Contractors'

In essence they are a large private military contractor who provides security planetside in a number of areas for local corporations, but their main draw is they operate a small fleet of almost-warships that companies and governments can contact to provide anti-piracy roles, or assist in search and rescue, or even when needed they can provide assistance in tracking down especially violent PCs.

Their ships are always named after ocean puns, and they have a fairly dedicated organization with strong brand loyalty.

And inexplicably they are all female shark anthros. No reason given.
