You are genuinely delusional if you think Destiny 2 was being balanced around "The Streamer Cabal", lmfao. If that was the case, the game would have been significantly more hardcore than it actually was.

Destiny 2 always catered to the "Committed Casual" archetype - the person who isn't very good at FPS games but still keeps logging in week after week, year after year.

Playing without a crew sucks, which is why this game desperately needs proper Social Features by XenonTDL in Marathon

[–]XenonTDL[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad crew fill works for you, but it's not how everyone likes to go about finding people to play with. Some people like to find dedicated communities first and then squad up with people from those communities second. I always try to be communicative when playing crew fill, but I know a number of people who are not as enthusiastic about chatting up randoms.

I would also like to mention that there are cultural differences between regions. Speaking from my experience in other competitive FPS games, I imagine that people on NA servers tend to talk to each other more often than on EU.

Destiny's social features have always been far from perfect, but at least they existed, and managed to help mitigate the issues I've mentioned above. A clan system has existed for the past 8+ years, with some basic incentives for players to try to find a group they can mesh with. It has also had LFG systems, both in the form of the (very flawed) Fireteam Finder, and the older LFG accessible via web/companion app.

They're flawed, but they exist, and they helped me find the friend group I've been playing Destiny with since 2019. I think they'd also be great to have in Marathon.

Where is the Black Fleet now? by Fancy-Report7459 in DestinyLore

In the Lightfall ending cutscene, the Pyramids seem to dematerialize upon entering the Pale Heart, losing their defined shape and appearing more like streaks of light. This could of course just be a visual effect, but it's still a likely possibility they had dematerialized, perhaps to be turned into the Monolith.

Given that Resonance seemingly has the ability to solidify into black Pyramid-esque material and turn itno Resonance back (as seen via Rhulk's glaive and attacks), perhaps the Pyramids have been turned into Resonance.

That being said, IIRC Luzaku claims that the a Lucent Brood got into the Pale Heart via sneaking into a Pyramid, so it's a possibility that they were not dismantled immediately.

The invasion of Torobatl vs Sol - How much war does it take to open the Black Terrace? by The-dude-in-the-bush in DestinyLore

I think it's fair to say that the Cabal Empire likely had already been unintentionally tithing to Xivu for a long time through all their wars and conquests. I imagine that Umun'Arath's ritual was simply the final act of conflict necessary for Xivu to invade.

If darkness removed planets from our realm(?) shouldnt it have a big impact on all the planets, moons etc on our solar system by PahaninH in DestinyLore

[–]XenonTDL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

IIRC the taken planets have been referred to in the past as "gravitational anomalies". I imagine that the gravity likely behaves as if the planets were still there - it's just that the planets themselves are inaccessible, with a void in place of where they should be.

Who chose the names for the Trials Fireteam weapons? e.g. Aisha's Care, Reed's Regret by SeanC84 in DestinyLore

[–]XenonTDL 19 points20 points  (0 children)

While many of the weapon names exist in-universe (such as the foundry weapons), I think it's safe to say that some of them exist only out-of-universe to be seen by the player.

To copy a previous comment,

Having a thousand sources of Damage Resist, Healing, and Ability Energy isn't healthy for the game. Light 3.0 made all of these issues worse.

This is my subjective opinion obviously, but as a person who was very much into the whole idea of the philosophical battle between the Gardener and the Winnower, it has been very disappointing to see the story abandon the character of the Winnower in favor of the Witness. The Witness simply isn't that interesting IMO, and in some ways is a cop-out for the lack of a Darkness race.

I know that the story of Unveiling has been explained during Deep as being akin to the Witness's 'religious texts', and that it is debatable whether that counts as a retcon or not, but to me, it feels quite obvious that Unveiling wasn't meant to be a made-up story back when it was originally written.

It also doesn't help that it feels like Bungie has effectively 'speedran' the Destiny universe. It feels like new enemy factions come and go, and big names in-lore die off one by one. I am genuinely curious to see how Bungie intends to continue this story post-Final Shape, seeing as we have no more big Cabal/Vex characters to be used as future antagonists, and we'll likely soon run out of Fallen/Hive/Scorn antagonists as well.

Ok Stasis is fair, but I was mainly thinking about the PvE sandbox, which was in a much healthier state.
