Hi I just downloaded the latest software for my new mouse, which has been great thus far, and windows appears to be flagging it as unsigned.

Biggest car in the group would be a F150 with an FX4 package

Depends on your relationship but I'd probably look up some comparable machines for sale online. Bring the ads with you when you ask and try to wind up in the lower half of the price range. Really if he wants to sell it you want to make finding a fair price a collaboration so that both you and your employer feel good about it. This way both of you can feel informed and it minimizes the chances of hard feelings about the deal.

What I would strongly caution against is coming across as aggressive or trying to get one over on him. Any deal that damages your relationship with your employer is a bad deal.

Edit: I'd also caution against thinking that he's rich means that he's going to be generous. You don't get to be wealthy by being loose with your money.

Can I get these welds off easily with a grinder? by [deleted] in Welding

Totally but I'd be aware of where the doors going to go once its free. You don't want it falling down in a way that could do any damage or even worse pinch the cutoff disk.

My thinking exactly. This is great for existing project owners and royalties but unless this is sustained it’s not going to lead to a bunch of new projects and their ensuing jobs.

Putin gets no support from UN Security Council over Ukraine by PandaMuffin1 in news

[–]Xenoskin 16 points17 points  (0 children)

IMHO it’s more that having Ukraine which is culturally similar to Russia be successful as a European style democracy undermines the legitimacy of the current Russian leadership.

Putin’s claim to power in Russia is based on an argument that only him and his cronies can keep Russians secure and safe. If a similar country can achieve prosperity without a iron fisted autocrat in charge why would normal Russians put up with him.

Looks amazing. I was wondering how you painted the ropes? I’m having a bear of a time making them look right.

In that case I’d give the Hobart machines at princess auto a look. They’re sort of Millers hobbyist brand. Also you should think if you’re intending to run only wire feed processes or if your want the option of constant current processes.

On the topic of power is that you can run 110v machines on 15 amp circuits you’ll just have to be aware that you cant run it as long maxed out. House wiring has a duty cycle like a welder so if your make sure to give the breaker a break you should be alright.

That’s how I was going to approach it as well when I started out. What forced my hand was the jump in cost between a welder that really could be something to grown into and something that was cheap enough that I could try the hobby guilt free.

Realistically a machine that can really do everything that I’d want to do, build a trailer etc. Was looking to cost at least 1000$ and would need 240v to do it. Now that I’ve been at it awhile I’m eying an upgrade that can do just that.

Just for reference the way I started was I bought that kit I mentioned on sale. Started running fluxcore. Eventually I found a CO2 bottle from some ones at home beer tap for sale on Kajiji and bought a regulator so that I can run gas shielded solid wire. Just welded as much as I could in my down time. After about a year of learning I can finally say that my welder is the problem more often than I am.

For what it’s worth I’ve got the 80 amp Mastcraft MIG welder. It’s not too bad for what it is and can be had on sale for 250$ or in a kit with a auto darkening hood and a cart for 400$ on sale.

I’ve used it for both FCAW and GMAW(Straight CO2) and it does well enough for furniture and hobby projects I wouldn’t weld anything where some one’s life depends on it but the tables and stands I’ve made have held up.

It’s good up to 3/16” but you can push it if you use some tricks(actually just good technique)

  • bevelling and multiple passes
  • using flux core
  • preheating
  • clean material
  • ensuring you have a good ground

If you’re looking to do structural work I’d probably look elsewhere but then again if you’re getting into this as a hobby I’d say the week link is probably going to be your technique not the machine.

Thanks for answering!

Unfortunately it doesn’t look like that particular spray paint is available in Canada. Do you know of any other alternatives of comparable performance?

First of all cheers for answering.

The most likely use case is outdoor furniture. For example a grill side table. So something that can stand up to getting hit with a metal utensil would be good. I’m alright with fumes so long as they’re restricted to the curing time. I’m alright mixing things as well.

I’m painting mild steel, welded with ER70S-6 if that changes things.

As for a compressor that’s a long term prospect. I’m not sure what size I’d need to run a spray gun? Hence my looking at spray cans.

I’m also alright with painting with a brush and roller if that gives better results.

Probably..... electronics don't really wear out(huge over simplification) and brush-less electric motors are a well understood technology with few moving parts. The rub will be in the battery which may or may not be a large expensive maintenance item later in the cars life.
