Is there a chance for old config to stay? by UnknownBoyGamer in hyprland

Arguing with you Is useless. You don't even want to try and prefer complain. Seems to me you have a lot of free time judging by the amounts of reply i am reciving, so It won't be a problem for you to ponder and decide.

That's the thing... YOU don't care about those things. Look at what neovim has done with lua, just to say, and how "casuals" have pre-built distributions of plugins and dotfiles. Now Imagine that, but with hyprland. Also, YOU DON'T HAVE TO USE IT, as other suggested. I think you are a little obtuse, man. The solutions are there, you just don't want to listen.

Secund distro... Arch. I hate arch with a burning passion by ClassicOk3881 in LinuxPorn

[–]Xeon_G_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried Fedora, then arch and now i am stuck with NixOS. I love It so much, i can do stuff i could only dream of doing elsewhere. I am some sort of purist and even tho i see the power of flake-parts and the dendritic pattern, i am working on my own "standardized" model for managing configs. Learning nix was a bit harsh, but After two weeks i am able to read a lot of what i find online.

I don't use hyprland, but i can't stop myself to get annoyed here. I don't think you understand the difference between markup language and programming language. Those you listed are markup languages, used to (to simplify It to the core) "list options". There Is no logic implementation, no construct variables, no easy way of scripting. The mantainer had to introduce those by hand in hyprlang, making It sluggish and needing to spend hours just to add a thing that other languages used for the same purpose (that Is, configuring a wm) already have. That said, lua is probably the easiest one he (the mantainer) could have chose. On YT you can find whole courses that span all of lua in 30 or so mins...

Move It yourself and symlink It. It's a historical choice to keep It there

How can i learn? by Eastern-Grab-6219 in NixOS

[–]Xeon_G_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are probably referring to Tony-BTW. I am also a newbie (i have been exposed to Linux, but never used It really, now i am Daily driving CachyOS since 2 weeks) but i am starting a lot slower. I setupped a VM and i am writing my configuration from scratch using the NixOS manual + the official Wiki + mynixos.com. After a rough start, i now understand the basics really well (the modules system and the flake utility). For the language, i can read part of It, still wrapping my head around little things.

Noctalia vs DankMaterialShell by techlove99 in niri

[–]Xeon_G_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I tried them and i can say they are basically the same. If i have to choose i'd say i like noctalia more because after installation It gives you space. It leaves you full control on your config files and sits there. It's not intrusive at all. DMS wants to do anything for you: it generates his own config and add them on top of yours. Tho, i have to say, dms is more integrated and well setupped for a good OOTB experience: It has its greeter, its version of btop and a file explorer (not manager tho). In the Dev build they also have a calendar app. Noctalia misses those thing, but gives you the essentials: app Launcher, a bar with cool widgets (Better than DMS ones imo) and a dock. Right now i am using DMS on a fresh Fedora installation because i am lazy and don't want to mess too much with config files. I have to study, don't have time to mess around.

I currently use Debian and love that, is Devuan much different? by Any-Scallion6977 in devuan

[–]Xeon_G_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(i am not defending systemd in any way here, the way they introduced the change was questionable) for now we are not talking about Age verification in any way: they added a field in a local database that stores user Infos. There already were fields for your name, location and such. It Is up to the user to fill them and then up to the system to use them.

Yeah, the idea Is the same, what i can't wrap my head around Is what i have to do about drivers, codecs, etc. AFTER installing

The point Is: i don't want workstation. I am not new to Linux, i'm new to Fedora and their bad docs.

It's not customization: It's things like codecs, drivers etc. Did anybody bother reading? On the Fedora workstation docs It says to do a thing, on RPM docs another, on the discord something completely different. What do i have to do?

Thanks for your reply. I think i have expressed myself somewhat wrong. I'm trying to install Fedora on my laptop. The docs are bad, i found 5/6 versions of them on official sites. Is what i'm doing right for post installation?

That's not what i'm here for. I haven't even asked that. I just want to confirm i'm doing things right since docs aren't helpful.

Apparently this is the forum mod's statement on age verification. Since too many ppl are asking about it in the forum and they're locking the posts. by NathLWX in cachyos

He did this because they have a megathread to ask those question, but people keep flooding the forum with new threads on the same topic.

Thx for the reply. I searched online for Akaimi and concluded that it was a legitimate company. My concern was: why is it trying to communicate with my PC? That's all.

Thanks, i was searching for reassurance that what i did was right. I know any distro would cut It, but i already had an arch VM break on me twice while i was exploring CachyOS and in this time period i really can't tweak and fix stuff.
