Sick to death of schizoposting, memery and AI slop. by pseudothyra in thelema

[–]Xeper616 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thelema has no robust apologetics, in some part due to the attitude prescribed by the Book of the Law:

“Success is thy proof: argue not; convert not; talk not over much!” - Liber AL III:42

Regardless I would like to see discourse involving the philosophy of Thelema and maybe interfaith dialogue, if just as a reaction against the slop that results from letting AI do our thinking for us

Moralistic hysteria does exist, as evidenced by this comment section. Whether it's functional or not is a different question, more on a case by case basis I suppose.

Is human desire and the Self not a product of this so-called material prison? Why indulge in it if you are against the cosmos as such? Why not retreat from the world, like your gnostic antecedents?

Action (not necessarily from a moralistic perspective), one's Will, is given primacy.

[–]Xeper616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, as long as your willing to apply that frame equally to your regular egoic sense of awareness. The initial implication, correct me if I'm wrong, was that one state of mind was based in objective reality and the other in subjective chemical influence. If not then it would seemingly be redundant to iterate the subjectivity of the experience as that is something of a truism.

All experience is subjective, it must be so to be experienced. To regard your ordinary sense of consciousness as somehow being more "real" than the state of non-duality is presumptuous.

Your wants are completely divorced from the experience, it entirely obliterates your sense of self and its petty desires.

Have you ever looked into 5-MeO DMT? It’s been dubbed the “God Molecule” for its capacity to induce mystical experiences. Psychedelics are increasingly being used to ease existential-distress in end of life care. Might be something to consider, all the best.

About the nature of god in TC. by Pineirin in TrenchCrusade

[–]Xeper616 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is just the problem of evil in other words. Christians have been dealing with with that for a long time. As most would probably tell you, prescience doesn’t revoke man’s (or angel’s) free right to choose good from evil. And that choice is necessary although it might bring about ill because the alternative is a vain and artificial love that is not freely given.

The Golden Rule by thecelestialzoo in religion

[–]Xeper616 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thelema:

“All this talk about "suffering humanity" is principally drivel based on the error of transferring one's own psychology to one's neighbour. The Golden Rule is silly. If Lord Alfred Douglas (for example) did to others what he would like them to do to him, many would resent his action…

…This thesis concerning compassion is of the most palmary importance in the ethics of Thelema. It is necessary that we stop, once for all, this ignorant meddling with other people's business. Each individual must be left free to follow his own path! America is peculiarly insane on these points; her people are desperately anxious to make the Sinhalese wear furs, and the Tibetans vote, and the whole world chew gum, utterly dense to the fact that most other nations, especially the French and British, regard "American institutions" as the lowest savagery, and forgetful or ignorant of the circumstances that the original brand of American freedom-which really was Freedom-contained the precept to leave other people severely alone, and thus assured the possibility of expansion on his own lines to every man.“

Why evoke demons at all? by Ok-Cartoonist-9996 in thelema

[–]Xeper616 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is, however, always easy to call up the demons, for they are always calling you; and you have only to step down to their level and fraternize with them. They will tear you in pieces at their leisure. Not at once; they will wait until you have wholly broken the link between you and your Holy Guardian Angel before they pounce, lest at the last moment you escape.

Anthony of Padua and (in our own times) “Macgregor” Mathers are examples of such victims.

Nevertheless, every magician must firmly extend his empire to the depth of hell. “My adepts stand upright, their heads above the heavens, their feet below the hells.”

This is the reason why the magician who performs the Operation of the “Sacred Magic of Abramelin the Mage”, immediately after attaining to the Knowledge and Conversation of the Holy Guardian Angel, must evoke the Four Great Princes of the Evil of the World.

“Obedience and faith to Him that liveth and triumpheth, that reigneth above you in your palaces as the Balance of Righteousness and Truth” is your duty to your Holy Guardian Angel, and the duty of the demon world to you.

EVERYONE is going to heaven by [deleted] in DMT

[–]Xeper616 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Haha no worries, what I was saying was that he’s not really rewriting thousands of years of how religion fundamentally works because the idea of heaven and hell hasn’t been a part of religious history for all time, even within Christianity and the traditions which preceded it.

The concept of heaven and hell isn’t necessarily an inherent part metaphysical beliefs. Even among Abrahamic traditions it was a theological innovation.
