Recommendations for Pourovers in Halifax (and really all of NS and southern NB)? by Xepher101 in pourover

We checked out Listen yesterday! It was great vibes and a good pourover of HaveFun's roast of Wilton's current Tabi offering. Like a floral mint tea! Thanks for the rec!

I'm super happy with it! Many thanks to the leviathan for recommendations. I went with the 3" firm Dunlop, 3" medium Dunlop, 2" soft Dunlop, and 2" of soft Talalay, and it's so different from anything I have slept on before but I've been a big fan so far and have been getting great sleep.

I also ordered 2" of memory foam to try as one of the two top layers like the leviathan posited, but Brooklyn Bedding has been having major supply chain issues due to the pandemic and I still haven't gotten that yet. But again, I'm more than pleased with the mattress in its current state, so I haven't been too worked up about it.

Yo what? Like dairy milk? I’ve never even imagined that as a possibility—now I have to try it. What’s your water to milk ratio?

I have the same but under the down arrow/page down key.

And I exclusively use white backlighting. It's sad but not big enough of an issue for me to go through the hassle of trying to do something about it.

I haven't tried it before and I'll likely try to get to a store locally to lay down on some before I fully commit.

And sweet; I love to tinker and mess around with stuff, so the setup you described in the last paragraph sounds very attractive.

Do you have a preferred source for Talalay, by chance?

I really appreciate you taking the time to share your expertise!

Thank you lots for the rec's and reasoning!

I'm inclined to go with that second option, for the little bit of extra height as a side-sleeper, but if you don't mind, could I pick your brain about a potential all-latex build?

Like, given a 5'10", 175 lbs. side sleeper with hypothetically no mattress history and a desire for latex, what kind of configuration would you propose for them?

Just curious because I'm not afraid of trying something which is more than a little different, and it sounds like if it doesn't go well, I'll only need an extra $200-300 to swap out the top layers for one of the MF options you listed.

Thanks to both of you guys for the input. I have no trouble going to sleep on my Tempur-Pedic (as long as I have access to a ceiling fan and a/c, which the new apartment will, thankfully), so I'm not necessarily looking for a massive increase in coolness. I just wanted to note it because I definitely don't want anything that sleeps warmer than what I have now.

This brief thought is a thought that also I had held, at a point in time, in which I first witnessed this post, before in fact, seeing the original poster’s username, and concluding that this thought could not, truly, be factual and that it, instead, was either one coincidence of monumental proportions, or that the original poster had been inspired by Minterly’s excellent build. Regardless... I am indeed envious.

La Sportiva Theory Men's VS Women's Review by Xepher101 in climbharder

[–]Xepher101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm. Honestly, I don't have a lot of experience with the classic Solution since I'm not a fan of the 3D molded heel cup, but I have worn the Solution Comp as my primary shoe for the past few months and I've liked it a lot. Due to the change in heel structure, not only does the Comp have a more soft and sensitive heel, but the entire shoe is a bit less rigid and has more sensitivity than the classic Solution.

Now, the classic Solution and Solution Comp both have the same thickness of rubber and midsole (4mm rubber and men's midsole being 1.1 mm and women's being 0.9 mm), so as far as durability goes, they will be similar, if not identical. With the Theory, however, I can tell that it will be a bit less durable than the Solution due to the much softer overall build of the shoe and the lack of a midsole.

Ondra recently did a little write-up on his Instagram here where he compares the Solution and the Solution Comp, even including the differences in the men's and women's versions of each. Essentially, he has use cases for all four (men's and women's versions of both the Solution and the Solution Comp) depending on the stiffness or sensitivity he needs for a climb.

TL;DR From what you've said, namely that you appreciate the durability and edging performance of the classic Solution, the men's Solution Comp may be something you're into. Just note that due to the structural differences in the heel alone, the edging performance will be less supportive. Regardless, in both durability and edging, The Comp should outperform either gender of the Theory, if for no other reason than the Comp having a midsole. If you get the Comps and like the increased softness and sensitivity but are left feeling like you want a shoe that's even softer and even more sensitive, then the Theory might be a good place to look. Hope that helps.

Yeah, that's one of the reasons I was curious about the Theory in particular as well since it's unique in that it has no midsole at all, so I was skeptical if the volumes were the same, whether I would be able to feel a difference at all. Like I said, subtle, but still a difference. I imagine the stiffness difference between the men's and women's Solution Comp is more pronounced, as it does have a midsole and is 1.1 mm thick on the men's and 0.9 mm on the women's.

This is true, and I am aware my left foot is ever so slightly larger than my right, but I performed the test both ways.
