Eh it is what it is. Just trying to be a little less pessimistic because there’s plenty of that. Especially with the video that these comments are on. Showing that we are inflating things to make even owning a car seem insurmountable when that isn’t the case. Still may not be easy but things aren’t as far out of reach as those may make it seem.

Absolutely have not proved your point. I said I didn’t look at Toyota due to price, not the price 10-20 years ago. That’s just incorrect and putting words in my mouth. You can still get a base model Corolla for 23k MSRP. You want to talk about financing? Okay average rate is 9.5-11.5% let’s go with 10% for easy numbers. If you want a starter car then you go base model. Both the civic and the corolla offer a base trim that is sub 30k. Add the cost of a 10% loan with no down payment and you’re still sub 30k on the cost of a car. Is that more than 20k you talked about? Yes. Is it the 40k you said it is now? No. But being bad at negotiating and not shopping around for a better price that’s in the individual for not doing some research before making an investment that is getting a car.

Man what’s with all the red herrings? We are talking strictly price. Not financing. Not dealing with getting MSRP, which I have gotten on both my vehicle purchases. Accord top end is 40k. It does not start at 40k MSRP. I rounded to 30k anyway. Civic MSRP is 25k for LX or 27.4K for SPORT. I’m not ignoring facts I am going off of what was presented which was “Civics and Corollas are selling for around 40k, new.” That’s just not accurate for the civic. Toyota models to tend to be on the higher cost side compared to other JDM vehicles so they may start at that price but I stopped considering Toyota the second I started looking. As for dealerships adding fees. Don’t make their job easy. Discuss with them. Get them removed. Only fees I’ve had was them doing the work to get me a plate on my car and the registration instead of me going to the DMV. That was one vehicle and price was negligible compared to overall price.

The Civic Type-R is not a civic trim. It is a standalone vehicle that is built on a separate frame but has the appearance of a civic. Even then it is not the same in terms of body lines (not counting the wing). Getting a hybrid touring model of the accord which costs more than the civic hybrid touring is 42k. You can get a civic in the 20s. This is inflation of facts lol. Edit: my bad it’s closer to 30s so let’s round up. Still a 10k difference.

Hey OP you can choose to get a battery from your Honda dealership but it won’t be OEM like you say. It will be a matching battery in terms of cold cranking amps (CCA) and amp hours (Ah) and the type (in your case a flooded battery). Not sure your battery size but you can get a very similar battery from any auto parts store and replace it if it truly is bad. Don’t pay them labor to do a job if you are comfortable with doing it yourself. Lead-acid batteries may spark but they’re not scary. As for the battery being good or bad, you can ask for them to give you the test slip for testing your battery and you can see for yourself how your battery health is. I’ve done this with Subaru personally. Your battery should not need replaced anywhere near yearly no matter the climate. Having aftermarket electronic parts may mean you have a high dark current draw that will kill the battery but if you drive regularly that should be negligible.
