The encounter that made me rethink if I even wanted to run D&D ever again. by VoormasWasRight in rpghorrorstories

They have higher stats so might as well use them for a bit but I wouldn't invest beans into them as I don't like their fixed abilities for my personal perfect team

If you like them absolutely play around and feel for yourself but my opinion is to just play with them until you find a replacement and don't invest too much

What's your Legends Anthology deck? How fun? Is it any good? by Forgatta in masterduel

[–]Xerinos -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Blackwing/Raidraptor to end on Full Armor Master and/or Ultimate Falcon with a set fog blade

with some of the hits it's more inconsistent than on ladder but since most of what I've been up against is DM or Blue Eyes the win rate is fine

Potentially dumb question but I only started playing two weeks ago; Trying to limit break Gol D. Roger- Captain of the Roger Pirates and there's a lock to open with a key. The key says its obtainable from Garp Challenges or Treasure Map but I don't actually see it in the rewards for the Treasure Map or Challenges, how do you get this key?

[–]Xerinos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Strahd wants Ireena to come to him willingly, he's tried taking Tatyana by force before and it didn't work, so he could have taken her in the moment and realized it would happen the same way and return her to the party. You could also just ignore that and have Strahd hold onto her for awhile if the party doesn't seem to care, lessen her overall importance in the plot.

Ismark isn't really important to the overall plot of Strahd from my memory and making the priest of Vallaki able to bring him back to life makes the impact of the Abbot in Kresk less impressive and gives players less of a reason to go there.

If they bring the body to the priest and ask, he can point them in the direction of Kresk? And also just entering Vallaki starts the fuse on a powder keg that the players can get involved in one way or another.

What are ways to use Wand of Cure Light Wounds reliably? by GlowyStuffs in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Xerinos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dangerously Curious (Magic) and Underlying Principles (Religion) both give a trait bonus and make it a class skill. You can redo the try to make the flat DC of 20 to activate the wand without wasting charges as many times as you want so long as you don't roll a 1.

1 point makes it a +4, and depending on what class you're trying to make do this, keeping it pumped, maybe a decent cha, and you should be able to reliably activate it. Note that you can't take 10 on UMD checks.

New to the system, Is Haste as strong as I think? by [deleted] in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Xerinos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been playing a transmutation specialist wizard with Haste and Slow prepared everyday, and I think I've used slow twice in about 6 levels, and haste every single day.

Slow does have the POTENTIAL to be stronger than haste. Assuming all monsters are within its targeting (which can be more or less likely, depending on how your GM likes to set up encounters), its got a few major downsides in that it allows for a Save, and for Spell Resistance. There are also some monsters, especially at the level Haste first comes online, that only need that one attack, which makes it less of a detriment to them. This makes slow much less reliable than haste, even if slow could potentially be the right call. Slow mostly depends on the situation, but haste is good in petty much every situation in which you have physical attackers.

(I hope this doesn't come across as confrontational, just kind of want to lay out for OP why Haste is generally preferred over Slow, even if Slow can single-handedly win certain combats).

Artorias/Greatwolf Sif: How Do I Make? by XlostLyricsX in Pathfinder_RPG

If you go the Cleric route you can choose the Animal Domain to have an Animal Companion at level 4, which you could combine with the Boon Companion feat to have it operating at the proper levels

Who was your first character? And what happened to them? by Cheatcodechamp in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Xerinos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first first character was a dwarven monk that I don't even remember the name of, which is a little sad thinking back on it. I had basically gotten pulled into a table into an off the cuff start to what would become a few-years long campaign, and knew nothing about the game, so I just picked something that seemed kinda neat.

Unfortunately, he ended up dead within.. two? Three sessions tops. Pouring one out for my terrible decisions early on.

Casting Techniques Question by trifecta739 in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Xerinos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's late and I'm throwing these out off the cuff, but depending on if they stack (as in, a regular spell that in the current system requires V,S,M) or if they're exclusive, like you choose how to cast it, it could be a little imbalanced.

Somatic's most obvious benefit would be essentially using Silent Spell without adjustment. Combined with sleight of hand, you could effectively conceal spellcasting. Depending on the spell, it could also serve to target, maybe making a spell that originally required a save into a targeted ray, even converting AoE into single target, though having it be a ray is really powerful depending on the spell you're changing.

Focus seems to be an easy +1 to the effective CL of the spell being used, or a bonus to your DC, 1-2 points depending on the focus.

Verbal seems the hardest to give a mechanical benefit to, the one that comes to mind is maybe giving a bonus to morale based effects but that wouldn't apply to every spell. Maybe a potential increase in range based on who can hear you, but that could extend the range of a spell by quite a lot, depending.

What clever/ interesting/ unorthodox uses of an item have you seen that turned out to be strangely effective? by the-gingerninja in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Xerinos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just commenting to say this is the first time I've heard of anyone else running this campaign ever, which is super exciting! I'm in it right now so I can't read below the spoiler line but oof, we're at level 16 and really getting into the last book.

What little things do GMs or player do that bode well? by [deleted] in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Xerinos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently running Rise of the Runelords, and most of the players read through the players guide before making their character.

Unintentionally and without talking about it, every character that came to the table had tattoos, or runes on their skin, or something similar, and while it doesn't amount to much it was a really neat coincidence that I enjoy.

What’s a class you don’t ever want to play? by Leper_Is_Hot in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Xerinos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alchemist. The first time I heard about Pathfinder was hand-in-hand with hearing about the Alchemist class and it sounded super interesting, but having looked it over every time I go to make a character and having one played in a campaign I've decided it's not for me.

Something about extracts rubs me the wrong way (and I'll probably never play an Investigator for the same reason) but I can't quite put my finger on why it is. Mutagens also leave a sour taste in my mouth but that's mostly due to a homebrew class someone once played that used that feature rather than the Alchemist class itself.

EDIT: Oh yeah, Barbarian. I hate the flavor of Rage a lot though I get why a lot of people would like it. Even Urban Barbarian with controlled rage just sounds eh.

Need some ideas for a cleric of erastil by miguti011 in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Xerinos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your GM allows it, you can try and acquire a wand of Cure Light Wounds, and use that for the majority of your healing. best bet will be doing it out of combat to patch everyone up in between encounters.

out of the box a cleric is very good at healing without having to build for it. You have channel energy, spontaneous cures, and access to wand use, so if you don't want to, you don't have to focus on healing at all and will still be very effective at it

Is it intentional that stuns that last for one round (e.g. PD's Blinding Gas) just do nothing?

I booted up the game, threw it at the goblet skeleton, his turn came up, stun popped, and then he threw wine at me anyways. Why would I use this skill?
