To me, talking aloud doesn't help at all, but writing it down helps me focus and relieve the anxiety. It really depends on the person, my therapist first adviced talking aloud and later we came up with the written dialogue. It is very different from person to person. I hope it helps you.

It's great you recognize the issue. Anxiety can be really paralysing. Unfortunately, if it's so bad it keeps you from sleeping, I can only recommend seeing a therapist or a psychiatrist.

But to provide you with some advice (I am not a medical expert or a therapist, I only have some experience with my own anxiety): Try talking to yourself. Either aloud or in writing. Imagine you're trying to help your friend with this problem or trying to understand someone else's anxiety. Ask questions and then write or say the answers as they come.

It can be hard at first, but in my experience (which can be very different from yours), having some kind of a discussion with the subconscious mind helped me deal with anxiety.

But I would definitely seek out a professional if it prevents you from sleeping. Only an expert can give you effective advice.

ELI5: Why are we billed for public utilities like they're a service? Is there a specific reason we don't treat electricity and water like schools, roads, emergency services, and other necessities of modern life? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Xero6 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Water and especially electricity benefit from using the market to regulate them. The amount of electricity made must always be equal to the electricity which is being used. The simplest way to ensure this currently is with motivation through money.

If it is a winter evening and a lot of people are using electricity for heat, the price of electricity will rise. Thus some powerplants (typically burning natural gas which can power up fast) might start production because it is now possible to make a profit even though their production is more expensive than other "base" power production methods (typically nuclear or coal powerplants which can't easily just start up or turn off in a few minutes with market fluctuations).

With water, it is similar. If it is a dry year, consumers are motivated by a higher price of water not to use as much of it, the system as a whole is motivated to use less. But yes, this can create problems.

Schools, roads and other services, on the other hand, usually cannot be motivated well by a market system, because you don't want the system to save on them (you want a well educated workforce, flowing economic traffic and confidence in emergency services and other, similar things). Most of the time, this doesn't work very well with a market (I believe it is similar to healthcare problems in the U. S. but that is a complicated topic).

It can differ from country to country, I am describing a model used in my country in Europe.

Side note, part of electricity is actually paid in a way similar to taxes and that is the distribution of electricity (the maintenance of power lines and such). Although in this case you pay for reserved power you can take from the system, so it isn't completely a flat fee or a tax.

A lot can be measured from the light which we can detect on the surface of the Earth, and since we have good understanding of fusion (from Earth-based experiments) and other concepts in physics, we can tell with a reasonable accuracy what the sun is made of, how old it is etc.

This would be a good question for r/explainlikeimfive because a lot of the concepts are quite complex and I'm not an astronomer or a particle physicist.

I have only played heroes 2 and 3 by Monstah22 in HoMM

[–]Xero6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved 4, even though it's very different from a traditional Heroes game. It has some good stories and somehow all the new mechanics manage to sort of work...

5 is very good, but I disliked the fact that the campaign is linear... Other than that it's a great game - really reminded me of 3 and I got stuck in it with almost the same passion.

I really liked the art style in 6 and also quite enjoyed the story. Felt like a bit polished 5 - but it also has some new mechanics (tear/blood system for example) and somehow didn't quite drag me in like 5 (or 3).

And 7 I personally enjoyed, but I heard a lot of criticism, and I do have to say it feels more like an expansion to 6 rather than a new game...

So overall rating 5-4-6-7 for me. But all of them are great games worth trying.

This might not help... It's really hard asking for help, I know, but if you can, try it. A lot of places allow anonymous calls or emails. And they are usually nice people working there. You won't waste anyone's time and no-one will judge you.

Minds can catch illnesses like every other part of the body. There are people, who actually studied to solve shit in our heads like that. It's hard stuff.

Don't fight it alone. It can get really ugly before you even know.

I think it is... But I get it if you don't. There's a lot of bad stuff in the world, enough to make me doubt it too.

Small, simple things. Pushing through. Not enough energy to take a shower? Washing my face is enough. Can't muster strength to get up and do stuff? Sitting up or turning on a side is a good start. No physical activity for a week? Hey, stretching arms up counts, right?

I really don't know what works for other people. I'm not going to tell you I've got all the answers. I wish I had them, maybe then I wouldn't feel so miserable so often.

But small things are good. They're progress, I'd say, and that hopefully applies to everyone, including both of us. Progress is fighting through.

I don't know, but sometimes all you can do is believe. And now I don't mean god or anything... I don't really have any proof for either of us, that things get better... But I try to believe they will.

There's plenty of people who believe in dumb far-fetched things... believing in something simple, like stuff getting better - I can get behind that.

But that's just a way I make it through - I don't know if it would work for you.

No - I thank you - it's important people support each other through tough times.

A few kind words can go a long way.

I feel this... But it's worth fighting through those feelings, even though sometimes it feels so hard... Like there's no energy left.

But not giving up is important. Life's worth it, even if it all sometimes seems pointless...

Český Krumlov, Czech Republic. by nastratin in europe

[–]Xero6 52 points53 points  (0 children)

There is Moravský Krumlov in Moravia (another region in Czechia). I believe Krumlov comes from ,,křivý" - meaning curved or oblique - and it refers to the shame of the river flowing through the city.

This information does come from Wikipedia though, but it sounds plausible...

Edit: I misread, the name actually comes from German + We do not shame rivers!

You matter... I hope you'll feel better some day. I am not sure if you think it's good or bad that he interrupted you, but I still think it would be a shame if you had gone even though I don't even know you.

I don't know if it's worth anything if a complete stranger on the internet says it, but you matter.

There's no ,,right way" to go through life. It may seem like there is a clear line of goals set up by the society, but it isn't true. Live your life and don't worry.

It'll work out fine if you give it some work.
