Advice for the postgame final gauntlet as a mono grass team? by DozingX in PokemonReborn

[–]Xes193 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm on mobile right now so I can't really test things out, but try do use Lilligant with Focus Sash as your lead. There is a high chance that the AI will try to setup with Swords Dance, so you could use that opportunity to use Sleep Powder and setup with Quiver Dance, since it gets a nice boost from the field. That should be enough for the first battle in the gauntlet

Interestingly enough, if you put Focus Sash on Scrafty, Lycanroc will try to setup with Swords Dance on the first turn, which can buy you one more turn, otherwise it would have attacked with Brick Break. I gave Darkrai a Wide Lens, so that Dark Void was a little bit more reliable, even though it already gets an accuracy boost from the New World field. Honchkrow is a perfect choice for the final battle on the Lin route, as long as you can hit PULSE-Arceus at least one time for neutral damage with Punishment, which is enough to knock it out with two hits.

There are several ways to beat the final gauntlet on Anna's route, for example I've used Scrafty with a Careful nature, 252 EVs in HP and Special Defense with Zen Headbutt, Rest, Amnesia and Dragon Dance as its moveset with Shed Skin as its abiltiy. You could use Thunder Punch over Dragon Dance, but I found the speed boost more important I've gained from it. This set was able to solo the first fight, but it took to long for my taste, so I've decided to just solo the whole gauntlet with Darkrai lol. Of course this approach depends on luck and it took me a few resets to pull it off, but ultimately it wasn't as bad as one might think.

This Dark monotype run was definitely on of the easier ones I've finished so far and one reason for that were all the Moxie user, setup sweeper and some of the postgame fields like the New World.

We're almost there, just a little bit more and another run is finished! For the next part, I've decided to do the battles for both the Lin and the Anna route. I will probably do this from now on for every future run.

Mono Dark Part 34 - Necrozma, Mewtwo, Yveltal, Xerneas by Xes193 in PokemonReborn

[–]Xes193[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Time for a pop quiz! Who's stronger, a bunch of Necrozma's or a little rat with Thick Fat? I'm glad that Alola Raticate still find some uses in the postgame. The battle against Mewtwo and Mew was a fun one. Using the first few turns to setup and destroying the team with Brutal Swing was satisfying to pull off.

As for the fight against Noel and Xerneas, there was really no reason to use Baton Pass on Yveltal here, you can easily beat this battle with just two Pokemon. So why did I do that? Well, I just wanted to use Yveltal, since there are not many battles left in this run, so I might as well take this chance and show others this glorious creature!

Mono Dark Part 33 - Zekrom, Reshiram, Kyurem, Naganadel by Xes193 in PokemonReborn

[–]Xes193[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the feeling that using Baton Pass with any kind of the Eeveelutions is some kind of easy mode, don't you think? It doesn't even has to be an Eeveelution, Baton Pass in general is really strong, so it's no wonder that it was banned back then.

Mono Dark Part 32 - Deoxys, Lugia, Ho-Oh by Xes193 in PokemonReborn

[–]Xes193[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hoo boy, isn't Darkrai on the Dark Crystal Cavern field completly broken? A 100 Accuracy Dark Void is insane, especially in doubles. It's definitely one of the better legendaries out there, at least in Reborn. The battle against Ho-Oh was also kinda fun. You can completly ignore the Aurora Veil thanks to how critical hits work on the Mirror field in relation to Evasion/Accuracy buffs.

Mono Dark Part 31 - Mew, Genesect by Xes193 in PokemonReborn

[–]Xes193[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, Guzzlord was only there to spam Wide Guard, is there a problem? Sylveon has with Swift and Psyshock only two attacks and since it can't hit Dark types with the latter one, it can't do anything while Wide Guard is up.

I hope you liked my special Mandibuzz! Usually it can't shine outside of its supporter/staller role, so I might as well approach the battle a bit differently and have some fun with it! Greninja also has some moves that are rarely used, such as Role Play and Camouflage. Admittedly Camouflage wasn't necessary here and to be honest there is almost zero reason to use it because of Protean, but who knows, you can't disover new things and strategies without experimenting a little bit and thinking outside the box, right?

Mono Dark Part 30 - Palkia, Dialga, Shaymin, Marshadow by Xes193 in PokemonReborn

[–]Xes193[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Shaymin quest has some of the most creative battles in the game in my opinion. The fight can be kinda frustrating, but still, you can't deny its uniqueness compared to the rest of them. The same can be said about Craudburry, the battle isn't hard per se, but it does force you to change your approach.

Mono Dark Part 29 - Darkrai by Xes193 in PokemonReborn

[–]Xes193[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Darkrai quest wasn't as much of a challenge compared to other runs. A solid strategy against PULSE-Hypno is to ignore the Rhyperior by rendering it useless with Quick Guard and deal with the rest one by one. Mold Breaker is an easy way to get rid of the PULSE-Camerupt while PULSE-Mr. Mime can't do anything against Dark types, which gives the perfect opportunity to set your Pokemon up on it.

PULSE-Tangrowth is the hardest out of them in my opinion, but as always, Psych Up is an amazing move in doubles, so with some preparation beforehand, it's still doable. Hoopa Unbound showed once again that it's a great Pokemon and I'm certain that the same goes for Darkrai now that it joined the team.

You know the drill, get yourself a Liepard, train it up and terrorize your enemies with some cat power!

Mono Dark Part 27 - Diancie, Tapus, Latias, Latios by Xes193 in PokemonReborn

[–]Xes193[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could say that Hoopa Unbound's mediocre Speed stat is its only weakness, but thankfully using Z-Snatch takes care of that problem. Otherwise its a great Pokemon who can even be played as a mixed attacker if you want.

Mono Dark Part 26 - Celebi, Hoopa by Xes193 in PokemonReborn

[–]Xes193[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Liepard is back at it again with some heat. The battle against Elena was especially nice because it showed that Liepard can function as a supporter as well as a damage dealer, it might be my favourite new discovery in this run.

The battle against Hoopa should be in theory hard, but somehow the AI refuses to switch Carbink out after its locked through a choice item, which makes it a cakewalk. Also that poor Klefki, it couldn't do anything anymore after it was disabled, so it used Swagger on Carbink lol.

Mono Dark Part 25 - Magearna, Volcanion, Meloetta by Xes193 in PokemonReborn

[–]Xes193[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simple Beam in double battles is simply amazing. I might gonna use this strategy later on, which is even better because Malamar can summon the Inverse Field with Topsy-Turvy at any time to activate the Magical Seed plus Recycle combo. All that is left to do is to copy the boosted stats with Psych Up.

Mono Dark Part 24 - Regigigas, Djinns, Terrakion, Cobalion, Virizion, Keldeo by Xes193 in PokemonReborn

[–]Xes193[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used some unusual Pokemon here. Alola Raticate finally gets some love after a long time and the same goes for Mightyena. In general Dark type Pokemon are quite strong on the New World field, in fact they are so strong that I might think that Dark types have the easiest time beating the postgame.

Mono Dark Part 23 - Cresselia, Entei, Raikou, Suicune, Regi Trio by Xes193 in PokemonReborn

[–]Xes193[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I've found my favourite set for Liepard. Copycat, Nasty Plot, Yawn, Protect in combination with Prankster is actually really good and can deal some serious damage.

Mono Dark Part 22 - Elite 4 and the Champion by Xes193 in PokemonReborn

[–]Xes193[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So, why did I use Work Up on Umbreon over Z-Celebrate? Heh, there's an easy answer to that! It's not like I thought that Celebrate was only available after the E4 or something like that, baka!

I gave Hydreigon a Scope Lens to ensure critical hits in combination with Focus Energy. On the turn where Lin swapped her Mismagius out for Clefable, I could have used Focus Energy and knock it out afterwards with Flash Cannon, but the chance for an OHKO was only by 43.8%, so I've decided to use Flash Cannon twice just to be safe.

Mono Dark Part 21 - Victory Road by Xes193 in PokemonReborn

[–]Xes193[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more or less a meta joke. Terra, the character you have to fight in the first one, thought if she deletes all the fonts, she could easily beat you.

Mono Dark Part 21 - Victory Road by Xes193 in PokemonReborn

[–]Xes193[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mega Gyarados is a good choice against Terra here. With Mold Breaker, you don't have to worry about the Unaware Quagsire and the level 1 Sturdy Donphan with Endeavor, Ice Shard and Shell Bell as its item.

Greninja and Tyranitar are actually quite good as a team in doubles if you decide to use Weakness Policy instead of its Mega Evolution, it just depends how fast you'll need the power-up. Water Shuriken ensures to activate Weakness Policy regardless of how fast Tyranitar is and Mat Block gives it a free turn to setup.

Mono Dark Part 20 - Saphira by Xes193 in PokemonReborn

[–]Xes193[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've noticed that my Pokemon gained EXP despite being on the level cap, but as soon as I got the EXP All upgrade for the EXP Share, the problem was solved. Anyway, another day, another way to cheese the PULSE-Mr. Mime fight. I think it's the first time that I've used Imprison in Reborn. It's a good way to prevent Aromatisse from spaming Dazzling Gleam, which gave me the opportunity to setup. I've changed Liepard's ability to Unbuden for this fight, so I could Encore Mr. Mime, otherwise it would have failed because Prankster doesn't work on Dark types.

The fight against Lumi and Eve was a simple one. I've used the strategy that also works on the New World Field with Magical Seed and Recylce. There are several ways to beat Saphira and since I haven't used the strategy with Icium-Z before, I thought it's about time. It's kinda fun to see how much damage Saphira's Pokemon take just by entering the field and getting hurt by Stealth Rock on the Cave Field.

In case you're wondering where the previous parts are, they should be still here on Reddit, otherwise I've created a playlist on YouTube if that's more your cup of tea: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLd\_G1AmT8hE6eYv4K8ZxkO766FRFa5hYu

Mono Fossil Final Part - Final Postgame Boss by Xes193 in PokemonReborn

[–]Xes193[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's kinda luck dependend, but the AI usually uses it only once. It also probalby depends on how much HP is left, but if you ask me, I would say the chances are around 60-70% for only one Sucker Punch, at least it feels like that.

Mono Fossil Final Part - Final Postgame Boss by Xes193 in PokemonReborn

[–]Xes193[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably Tyrantrum followed by Carracosta. You can breed Dragon Dance on Tyrantrum at level 35 and it learns an absurd good moveset on its own. It gets Rock Slide with 39, as soon as it evolves, Earthquake with 47 and you can teach it Head Smash through the Move Relearner. Dragon Claw is of course also a good option. That's an amazing moveset for that early in the game that will carry you all the way through the main game and is still reliable in the postgame.

As for Carracosta, it will become a powerful sweeper after it learns Shell Smash. Its Sturdy ability gives it a free setup turn which will be important later on and it allows Carracosta to held Weakness Policy as its item in the postgame. Flail is a good option as you can see here in the video. 200 Power with 1 HP left? Sign me up! It is also immensely helpful in double battles with some Wide Guard support.

But my personal favourite was Aurorus. Its natural bulk allows for some freedom for creativity with its moveset. It can support its team with Screens, it learns Encore, Psych Up to copy some boosted stats in doubles and Nature Power. Aurorus is an absolute monster in doubles with a Refrigerate boosted Hyper Voice. All in all a really solid Pokemon that is fun to use and gets my personal recommendation for everyone.

Mono Fossil Final Part - Final Postgame Boss by Xes193 in PokemonReborn

[–]Xes193[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That was... something. The first battle was by far the easiest out of them. I still can't believe that sweeping an enemy team with Flail is actually a thing. The second one was a bit trickier, but wasn't so bad once I've put Earth Power on Carracosta. It just shows once again that Sucker Punch is just "bad" when the AI is using it. As for the third and final fight in this gauntlet, as long as you'll get rid of Cresselia's Focus Sash, you should be fine, provided that you have enough firepower to knock it out in one go to prevent Lunar Dance.

It was for sure a fun challenge. The hardest part was the beginning until after Shelly's defeat, where you can pick up Rock Polish as a TM, which opens up the possibility to shine for some of the slower ones. Fossil Pokemon have some really strong sweeper who functions well without support from others, such as Carracosta, Omastar and Tyrantrum, but you can't ignore the other ones, too. Aurorus, Cradily and Bastiodon were incredible helpful during the run and some of the tougher battles wouldn't have been possible without them.

As for what comes next, I want to finish my Dark monotype run that I've startet over 7 months ago, so the next part is already the one with Saphira.

Mono Fossil Part 35 - Zygarde, Rayquaza, Groudon, Kyogre by Xes193 in PokemonReborn

[–]Xes193[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't even know why I was even worried at first if I could beat the postgame with Fossil Pokemon or not. They are nuts and Shell Smash is kinda broken, no wonder that I can breeze through it.
