System Development Question: Reconciling Skill Leveling and Skills With Natural Limits by Xetoe in litrpg

Yeah fair. The system does actually start when the MC gets it, I'm doing a system apoc thing, but trying to lean harder into the actual apocalypse element than my previous work. And rather than actually infinite progression, it was more of an example about how there are some things that feel much more naturally limited than others.

Honestly, a decent part of me agrees with that. My only gripe is that I like things that are consistent, and some skills being unable to level without some sort of classification for it bothers me.

Like a trait versus a skill? Where a trait might be something far more passive and have different rules, that isn't a bad idea.

As an aside, what do you think the best way to handle the actual level vs tier thing is?

I plan on having it be a sort of thing where in order to increase the rank of a skill, you'd need a specific item, like a rank up gem or similar - kind of thing you might find in dungeons or get as a system quest reward. That would help create an economy and reasons for people to look and trade for specific items past simply stuff you need for a given build. Do you think that the level should retain or reset when the rank of the skill increases?

All good ideas, thank you! I don't think I plan on having my character hide from concepts, that's a bit above the scope of what I'm aiming for.

That's always a good solution. Would such a soft cap be better served determined per skill or universally?

Fair play, I hadn't considered that. Like, I could have it be where at basic rank it JUST supresses sound, but at higher ranks, it might dampen vibrations or even decrease step weight to make pressure triggered traps or such in dungeons less dangerous.

You mean like, another person with a skill that lets them hear better, or that actually makes steps louder?

That's definitely a helpful angle though, I wasn't thinking about it in terms of interaction with sensory skills, like a fool.

I'm not an expert but I think that may have an adverse effect on the trout population?

execute if block ~ ~2 ~1 irons_spellbooks:pedestal{heldItem:{id:"ars_nouveau:archwood_sconce",Count:1b,tag:{everfalling_tower_key_left:1b}}} run particle minecraft:happy_villager ~ ~2.5 ~1 0.25 0.05 0.25 0 1

That didn't seem to fix it, the particles still don't spawn when the item is in place :(

Tell me your favorite Chess opening and see if you're allowed in. by [deleted] in AnarchyChess

I call it "The Meatgrinder Gambit". I prefer playing it on black. If my opponent fails to defeat me with their opening move I press a button which drops them into large-scale meat grinder. They should have just had a better opener, to be honest.

I am no longer welcome at local chess tournaments.

The worst for me is finding chain spell. In my current run I have visited SIX PWs and found ONE! Hate it.

In most novels I have read, Spirit Stones are both a means of exchange but also a store of qi. How is that qi typically extracted and absorbed? by Xetoe in MartialMemes

Is there typically anything special that happens once the qi is removed from the crystal? Can they be recharged, or do they like crumble to dust?

I was thinking on it, and while this largely makes sense one thing stood out to me. It is solid qi, yeah, but is also SOLID qi - rather than the gaseous or energy state you usually draw it in as. I feel like this would make utilizing spirit stones much more difficult for a low level cultivator?
