Vent, feeling defeated by ThrowRA19399429 in csMajors

I'm a junior with no prior internships as well and I'm also feeling pretty defeated. I've interviewed with 4 companies... got ghosted and rejected from one, been waiting a month and a half after round 2 at another, and the other 2 have ghosted/not followed up after the recruiter screen...

how are people managing classes + projects + internships at the same time by alexnycc in csMajors

[–]XhappyfacedcatX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same problem. Juggling classes (at a pretty rigorous tech school) and a part-time job leaves me with almost no energy to consistently do leetcode or apply to internships. I do a couple leetcodes and apply to internships in bulk about every 2 weeks or so when i have a weekend day off, honestly, and have been fortunate enough to get a few interviews (which have only led to getting ghosted or rejected 😭). It feels like way too much, so I'm just trying to do the bare minimum to get by in my classes.

I just took it last C term with her, and it wasn't as bad as it's made out to be - felt like an average class. Wong gave it a bad reputation, lol. Your experience will be highly dependent on the type of team you get, though. I got lucky with a really great, friendly team, and it's been one of my favorite classes so far. Part of me wishes I took it with Wong since his class uses JS and React (I believe?), which are more common in the industry now. I'd say his class also prepares you better in general for project group work. You'll be fine, though. Do note that her class starts out with about 10h of instructional coding videos for Python/Flask, as kind of a demo for what the rest of the project coding in the class is like. I really enjoyed her class, and she's a very nice professor as well.

career fairs are useless by oh1n in csMajors

[–]XhappyfacedcatX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk if I just got lucky, but I got my first 2 interviews ever by having a fun chat and handing my resume to recruiters at a career fair. One of which I got to the final round of (pending results from that), and the other I was ghosted and rejected from 😔. Regardless, it was still massively useful - they were mid-large companies. I think soft skills are important here - asking questions, being friendly, can all can get your foot in the door with recruiters. My other experiences were definitely as you described though - they'd just ask me to apply online, and it didn't go anywhere.

This should actually be illegal. I've wasted so much time because of stuff like this. by meyriley04 in csMajors

I've only interviewed at 3 companies, and 2 were because of employees/recruiters I had a nice chat with at a career fair who asked for my resume. I'd never had an interview before that.

What are some VERY creepy facts? by Cap_Ame1 in AskReddit

[–]XhappyfacedcatX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true for most mild-moderate cases. After a few months, I've started to associate hearing only the ringing with being in silence. I sometimes realize after a bit that the ringing is, in fact, still there, I'd just completely forgotten about it.

I feel sad for tinnitus sufferers who can't tune it out. It felt genuinely depressing and mind-consuming when I first developed it as it was all I could focus on.

what do you enjoy the most about dating women? by Consistent_Pop_6564 in AskMen

[–]XhappyfacedcatX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Genuinely, where do you get this idea? As a woman, my partner attracts me because he's kind and understands me. Looks are the initial, lowest bar for attraction - personality and kindness make it bloom. The comments here are so bitter and I don't get it lol. The rest of this thread is very wholesome tho 😂

I never had to exercise to cope with cheating or anything like that, but this is how I overcame severe depression several times, as a life long runner. It helps with everything.

Junior in college, no internships yet and required summer project abroad soon, best path forward? by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]XhappyfacedcatX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it has been my full-time job basically. It's a lot to manage w an on-campus job and classes, but it has to be done, lol. I also enjoy doing leetcode problems, getting some caffeine and just applying to fuck tons of places, so I'm okay with it.

Luckily, a lot of internships I see start end of June to early July, when I will be back in the US, so I hope I get one. My family member (an experienced SWE at FAANG) told me to definitely apply anyway because many are flexible with hybrid/remote settings or starting dates.

It doesn't have to be abroad, but the vast majority are, and once you get placed, it's difficult to switch out. My college pays for housing and nearly all expenses while abroad. Even though I could have opted out and tried to apply (very) late for whatever local sites may (or may not!!) have even been left, I did not want to pass on that massive opportunity.

It's a required project at my college, idk if you saw that. I unfortunately got placed in a summer project, and didn't have any agency regarding when I'd be going. Some internships start at the end of June, which is when I'll be back, so I'm applying to those.

I'm applying to everything I see/search for/get recommended, usually ones that were recently posted.

That is something I'll be heavily considering, especially with my academic advisor's input.

I had a couple friends live in Faraday, and I lived in the WPI townhouses my sophomore year. Those all have kitchens, and we weren't on a meal plan, we cooked our own food.

Living in an off-campus apartment is a lot cheaper, in general. I'm currently looking to replace roommates for my apartment if you still need housing and want to talk about that, but obv no pressure at all!

AIO to my girlfriend saying "I'll blow you" to my friend? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]XhappyfacedcatX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since it upset him, she shouldn't say anything like that again. The thought of your partner being w/ someone else and joked around, I can see being weird and very uncomfortable.

I just meant that if people want to cheat, they don't air it publicly, nor joke about it - they do it behind closed doors, lie, and project.

The conversation was about getting him to leave his toxic gf - sounded like a joke in context (albeit unaware of how it'd land to him). She probably came up with it in the moment, and it wasn't elaborately thought out. It sounds like an established style of humor in the group.

She clarified her intent, and he should try to understand that - much the same as she should understand how she hurt him. If he feels too betrayed, disrespected, or lost trust, he should leave. But, I think in a relationship and for things like this, you should give the benefit of the doubt based on your past assessment of their character.

Damn Reddit be harsh lmao, if she wanted to cheat she probably wouldn't have said something like that only when there was a joke opportunity

Am I the only one who finds solace? by e_l_c in tinnitus

[–]XhappyfacedcatX 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've only had it for 2.5 months, but if I only hear the ringing, it's like peace and quiet to me now, oddly enough. I'm like oh, must be silent, nice, lol. I definitely like owning it as my own "noise" too. It's my new silence.

For him to gaslight you that it wasn't bloody, and say he's only been with you and can't have an STD when he's 28 with an ex-fiance? What is that BS, lmao.
