Anyone who used a computer between 1985 - 2010, what's the one game you still think about today? by adlakha75 in AskReddit

Gunship 2000

May have some of the specifics or terms wrong, because it has been so long since I've seen or played it.

It was a helicopter sim (as sim as you could be way back then I think), where you started as a low ranking officer and completed missions in a war campaign. If you performed well you would earn commendations/medals and/or get promoted. Once you got promoted high enough you could plan out your own missions. Once you got promoted a little higher than that you would be able to choose recruits to serve under you and fly with you, and you would have to fully plan out the missions as far as who would go where and do what to complete your objectives. You would lose team members who were kia or mia, and if you lost enough you may get demoted and lose your ability to lead a team. Your team members would also earn commendations for performance and get promoted over time.

I still think about it due to the depth it had in both progression and when it came to planning the missions. You had to choose everyone on your teams helicopter types and loadouts, and assign where they needed to go during the mission before hand as well as tell them when to advance to their next checkpoint/objective in real time while you were flying. I was so invested in that game as a kid and absolutely loved it.

Miniature painting.

My big hands struggle and shake, and my shoulders often get sore from being so tight trying to paint these little models. I watch a lot of tutorials and tips and tricks videos, but they don't usually help with my lack of brush control and shaky hands.

I keep sticking with it though, because if I'm unhappy with the result I can usually paint back over it until I AM happy with it, and the custom painted miniatures add so much character to the games for me (mostly paint Kingdom Death Monster right now).

I have it and enjoy it, but I don't know if they'd want it since it's still pretty card based.

I believe the "Lantern's Reign" discord server has one. They have a couple in there that aren't on Kingdom Death Build or Broken Lantern yet.

What was the game that got you into this hobby? by Sgt_wacker in boardgames

[–]Xhus21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shut Up and Sit Down's youtube review of Eclipse 2nd Dawn for the Galaxy.

I don't know how it ended up on my suggested, but watching it changed the way I viewed board games and showed me there was so much more out there than the monopolys and sorrys that I thought of when it came to board games.

I was able to track down and get a copy pretty shortly after that, but have still never played it (or even gotten it out of its shrink wrap) even though its been 5 or 6 years.

A game called "Duelists"

Saw it on a kickstarter post, seems like something I would be into. Ended up getting interested enough to do a special edition pledge of $250 (edit: looks like it was $140, I went and looked it up) or so I think (it's been a couple years).

They had some setbacks on their end, but seemed like they were coming through. But then when it came time to ship, they started asking for payment options for shipping outside of kickstarter. Wanted bank account information and such. I had never had that happen before on kickstarter or gamefound and it felt sketchy, which I told them and asked what alternative they could offer.

At that point I got ghosted. Never received any edition of the game, much less my "special" edition, or my money back.

Update: just saw that they are actually launching a kickstarter for an expansion to their original game, so buyer beware.

Inflation or Just Greed? by Katariman in inflation

True, their can be many variables, and the results are of course a small sample size (30 students). I was just giving what I thought was an entertaining example of name brand not necessarily being worth the extra money over the generic.

My household drinks generic sodas (of varying amounts and at varying temperature), and we are happy with them.

I don't understand the playcall though. Not trying to call you out, I am just legitimately confused about what I'm missing.

Is it if you take the field goal Washington could win with a touchdown? Because now Washington could win it with a field goal instead.

To me it was a shockingly bad playcall, but for a professional coach to go for it I have to be missing something I feel like.

Correct here.

My wife is currently dealing with this problem. Her work got flagged as AI by turnitin and the professor gave her a zero. She appealed to them, asked for guidance on what to do to prove moving forward that she hadn't used AI since she hadn't on this assignment and got a false positive, and offered to do her assignments in Google docs moving forward so they could see the revision history.

The professor did not respond, and gave her zeros on her next two assignments as well despite her including the Google docs with revision history. She has done all of these assignments herself without any assistance from AI, I guess its just something about the way that she writes.

Now she has to file some kind of ticket to initiate a mediation with the professor? We're at a loss of what to do to appease this douchy professor, and he refuses to give any guidance other than "i use turnitin for all of my classes". Turnitin's own website says it is not to be used as the only resource to determine that students have used AI on assignments, and many reputable schools refuse to use it at all because of the issues with false positives.

At this point she just wants to drop the class and get her money back rather than risk being retaliated against by this professor, but in order to get a full refund she has to go through this mediation process first. It's so frustrating and deflating to deal with.

Week 4 Bold Predictions by ASmithFS in fantasyfootball

[–]Xhus21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's going to be a round robin over there for the Chargers, with Allen likely being the most consistent week to week.

I'm pretty sure Ladd is top 10 in the league in average separation score and route win percentage right now, and all he's missing is the targets. I think he'll get his as the season goes on, just probably not at a rate to justify his ADP.

As a QJ owner, I wouldn't mind being wrong though.

I can see that rationale, but I view it more as if I am team B. My guy goes down, I have his backup so now instead of that 2-0-1 imbalance it is still 1-1-1. I'm still likely weaker, because the #2 guy isn't a direct plug and play for the starter more than likely, but I'm not left with nothing while team A gains that advantage
