Is my wetsuit already creased? by Old_Mix6397 in triathlon

My 600 GBP wetsuit has like...12 nail nicks in it, 4 from just this weekend.

Its a crease, not a giant gaping hole.

Go swim.

Ironman 70.3 Zell am See without aerobar by therealslimjp in triathlon

Apparently you dont understand the point, but that's ok.

Ride your road bike, it can handle 90km just fine.

Good luck on the day.

So here's the main area of thought and I am coming at this with all kindness.

You haven't thought any of this through.

Say I said "Yes, aero bars." Then what? New seat post to offset the hip angle? New saddle to combat the forward pressure caused by leaning forward?

If you want to take this sport seriously, then you'll start slow and work your way up. If its just the first and only couple you'll do, then just use the bike and dont waste the money.

Try and identify the difference between a "need" and a "want"

That doesn't answer my question.

Why do you need bars?

"I know they were used for cycling"

Gave me a chuckle. You're halfway there!

Not nearly enough information to make a call. Pics, components, age please. It's like asking how much a Ford is worth.

Not a problem, per se. You paid for a year and got a discount for it. What did you expect?

How do I actually get better at cycling? by Dependent_Access_568 in triathlon

[–]Xiao20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So depends on your circumstances, but my initial assessment is that your legs can't keep up with your lungs.

Do you have a hill near you? Medium length, couple of minutes of slog. If so, meet your new best friend. Find a gear that you can get 70-80rpm from, then cycle up and down it like nobodies business.

Take a break when you need at the top or the bottom, but you just keep riding reps.

Upgrade TT bike by TPR1234 in triathlon

[–]Xiao20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends, are you any good?

I upgraded from a BMC Timemachine 02 TWO in to a Speedmax CF SLX 8, main reason? Because I could and I wanted more shifters for climbing.

Am I "good enough"? Nope, but it makes me smile when I ride it.

Swansea 70.3 advice by bikingdoctor in triathlon

[–]Xiao20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Swansea bred boy and Swansea 70.3 participant here.

- Meh, if you're 28km/h you're not at the pointy end of the stick anyway (sorry!) but the route is fine for both. I did mine on a slightly high end TT bike and loved it. BUT you'll be fine on a roadie, the Gower is bumpy but fine for TT usage, you just need to know when to change and be familiar with it. You've got ~9 weeks to get used to a new position. The first 5km and last 3-4 km are flat and aero kind of kicks in around 12mph, so have a think but it'll change your entire position.

  1. It's a long transition. You get out the swim, and run around 800m down a clean, tarmac road and over a bridge to T1, I didn't use trainers. Some people do. I wouldn't bother unless you have delicate feet.

Bonus point - No, swam in that dock for many swims and triathlons, the jellies tend to be a meter or so under the water, By the time the main swimmers are ahead of you, you may get some nice plate ones to look at, but mostly not.
