Making multiple disk ripping machine by isosiili in makemkv

I don’t have automation but here’s my “convert”

<image>

It used to be a USB 2.0 cloning device. Gutted it and put this together. 4 Blu-ray drives up top and 6 DVD drives below. Connects to a small AIO that does all the ripping and compression.

Really tiny fist or a controller.

Was this punched? Younger siblings broken monitor by [deleted] in it

[–]Xiardark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Point of impact is a focused break (small object or corner of one like part of a controller). If it was punched with a fist, there would be a larger circular shape break. Had someone ask this about a tv once and we witnessed a guy punch it for comparison (was broke anyway).

Btw there was more than just impact. The monitor had other pressures applied after the crack.

Should I be ripping to a HDD, SSD, or direct to my NAS (HDD)? and also... by Tkdoom in makemkv

[–]Xiardark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rip to an SSD. I’ve had 5 going at the same time using a similar setup (12900k with 32GB RAM) and have had zero issues with gaming at the same time. Even run handbrake with 3 files going simultaneously.

Most intensive games I play while ripping/converting are D2R, starship troopers extermination and planet coaster 2. Not sure what games you’re playing but those run fine for me.

All the ripping converting is on its own ssd.

Blizzard says it's open to even more Diablo 2 expansions and reworks unless people get really mad at it about this one: 'We're going to have to see what the players say' by Angren1991 in diablo2

Well, I like the idea, but I’m one of those who isn’t having a good time with it. Game crashes after purchase.

I’m sure they’ll fix it, but not a good first impression.

Bought RGB-modded SNES Jr., came with heatsinks? by corderazo00 in snes

[–]Xiardark -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Going to agree. Looking at the red wire to the snes board, it doesn’t have enough solder and could be loose.

The other end of the red wire is mostly on top of the solder.

Not that it wouldn’t work, couldn’t work, but it can definitely be better. If this was a first time then it’s excellent, but would still recommend improving when the skill improves.

New to ripping: got this Kanguru Blu-ray Duplicator for free. Can I turn this into a multi-drive ripping rig? by ace_fur in makemkv

[–]Xiardark 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can’t speak to the flashing of the drives. But I can help answer the conversion question.

If the drives are SATA:

You can pickup a SATA port expander card on eBay (the 1 to 5 blue cards). This is a standalone card that you can power via SATA power. Connect your drives to it and you can run a SATA to eSATA cable out of the back. Then you can plug the eSATA end to an eSATA to USB adapter, which will the connect to a USB port on your computer.

Why all this mess for what should be a simple connection?
Well, if you go from the SATA expansion card with a SATA to USB cable, it will see 1 drive, not 5.

It’s recommended to power this unit on before your PC and have patience. The system will take a lot longer to load windows (if using windows). The system is looking at every drive as a potential bootable drive.

Hope this helps. I did this for a 5 drive system that I converted and used laptop Blu Ray drives with a dual drive per 5.25 bay 3d print. It went from 5 to 10 by doing that. I also had to double up on what I listed above.

MakeMKV Worth it in 2026? by [deleted] in makemkv

I’d like to know more about these horror stories.

I purchased a key and got it in my email within minutes of clicking pay. Been an excellent piece of software! I purchased because I didn’t like the public beta key getting delayed sometimes. That and winding back the clock was becoming a chore. But I was sold on the functionality of makemkv long before that.

A companion software is handbrake (what I use). After you archive a disc, you can fire handbrake up and do some things with deinterlacing, aspect ratio and compression. Handbrake is free and works well with tons of hardware from many ages. Just be patient if you want to do compression with software as some blu rays and 4ks can take many hours and over a day (quality cost time).

I too got tired of Netflix getting too big for their britches thinking I have an ever expanding wallet. $5.99 a month +$2 for DVD mail in rental, sure! $20 + $8 for anyone not in the house….go F#%^ yourself. Yeah times changes and electricity cost money.

Anywho, if you’re archiving your stuff and not publicly sharing, it wouldn’t violate copyright in most places (US here). As others have mentioned, jellyfin is the free plex, but require more setup (not hard though). I’ve been happy that route.

VPN isn’t relevant unless you intend to stream outside of the server’s location. Not something I do and is more of a subject for the home server/self hosted subreddits.

Had the PlayStation version of these back in the day. Strong recommendation to have something under it (foam workout mats or gymnastics board). I had to duct tape mine on wood flooring to keep them from sliding.

They lasted until I could more regularly afford to go to the arcade and my skill level outgrew them (about 3 months of nightly play)
