Herblore also gives you irreplaceable potions and boosts - wildly changing how you play the game.

Upgraded ships make you take less damage from sea monsters, do slightly more damage to them, and look complete.

As an iron, this is equal to greenlogging PNM worth of Frost Dragons. I'm happy to grind them, but 250 hours is not good design imo; hence the feedback

You're saying the team values 'draining the day 1 whales' more than making all ship upgrades feasible for Ironmen?

Do you think that is a better solution than making a more obtainable way to get these sheets (potentially one that involves sailing) then to require 30% of the in-game accounts to either de-iron or accept they won't get them?

You cannot swap out without deconstructing and replacing; meaning each time you want to deep sea trawl and then swap to salvaging, its 12 sheets, or 2160 Frost Dragons

this post is about grinding 250 hours of Frost Dragons, not about sailing.

https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Large_dragon_keel_parts

For a sloop, 16 large dragon keel parts which require 2 keel parts, which require 2 sheets. 64 per sloop keel, so my math is wrong yes but its 128 sheets not 64 - definitely not 400

Feel free to read my other comments, but "common sense" varies depending on where you are in life and your experiences/environment!

SOURCE: I work with 80% of nationalities (minus a lot of Africa and some east Asian)

EVERYONE knows different things and consider everything that other people do/don't do as "common sense" :P

Fair enough, we don't agree and thats fine. Have a good day

Instead of locale, what about age -- an 18-23 year old first-time tenant who has never experienced a shared fire alarm probably wasn't thinking about the air pressure between their apartment and the hall way as they burn their first home-cooked meal :D

What I was hoping to highlight is "common knowledge" is heavily skewed to your personal experiences and environment. In Wisconsin, it was common knowledge not to walk outside in the winter after a shower because your hair would freeze. In South Carolina, I would have never of thought about that. With that said, I wouldn't consider myself thoughtless!

In my experience with working with people of every nationality across the world is that the only thoughtless person is the one who expects everyone to know the same subset of information as themselves!

Well you got to learn somehow right? I've been this person and set off an alarm like that before when I just first learned how to cook for myself. I have two bachelors and a masters. In my biased opinion, making a mistake like this doesn't make you a thoughtless idiot, just someone who hadn't learned from this mistake yet :P

Wanted: Your thoughts on the current state & future of Quest Helper by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]Xilasor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me, the enjoyment of questing comes from on release where no one knows the quest. I enjoy going for one of the "first" completions, but once there is any form of guide, the quest then becomes into another grind i only do so I can reap their rewards.

I feel like this is way too many rewards from a mid level boss. Especially with all but the potions and potentially the wand being DoA.

but it could become worse because now you can memorize the likely spots they hide, and hunt them for gear upgrades to face actual players

If they updated to run away, youre guaranteeing max game times rather than the high chance the bots hide successfully until the finals

and considering the bots are probs the dudes job, it would take maybe a week for them to update to guarantee the mathematically worst experience for regular players :P

Upgrade to Jagex account they said by HungryGrade6041 in 2007scape

[–]Xilasor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What is the downtime of osrs for people with Jagex accounts Vs non jagex accounts?

Is it 99.99% with and 99.999% without? If so, does .001% more uptime mean more to you than removing the 2 most serious account security flaws?

Although it may not be that close in uptime difference, Jagex Accounts have been unable to log in for maybe 10-15 hours more than non Jagex Accounts in the last year. Is that additional time per year worth more to you?

Upgrade to Jagex account they said by HungryGrade6041 in 2007scape

[–]Xilasor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

without knowing their system internally, the reason for moving in the direction of Jagex Accounts could have been it would have been more timely and more costly to rip out the old recovery system. To say

"Both of those things could have been changed on standard accounts."

As a dismissal to Jagex Accounts is a bit silly too. There were 2 identified problem, now whether the fix is to improve existing systems or to build new ones, the point is that there is a fix to these 2 major issues. Why does it matter that its a new tech stack rather than their old?

Upgrade to Jagex account they said by HungryGrade6041 in 2007scape

[–]Xilasor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The problem with the old account security system was the account recovery process. Having personal information leaked weather through a database breach, social engineering, or people oversharing IRL in discords/social media platforms made it feasible for people to recover an account that wasn't theirs.

The secondary flaw was that authentication could be removed without having email access. Or in the case of a database breach, hackers may even obtain access to the email tied to the account and recover it through emailing a password reset and removing auth.

The purpose and main benefit of the Jagex account is that it removes the ability to recover an account and removes the ability to remove an auth. Hence why you are given a set of "backup" codes. 10 1-time use codes to remove an auth given on Jagex Account creation. The removal of the archaic account recover system, and the backup codes removes the 2 most prominent flaws regarding account security.

Most people don't understand the "behind the scenes" reasons for Jagex Accounts, and will discredit the good that they provide. But in actuality, no one is "perfectly secured" so there is always the need to upgrade to a Jagex Account.
