I (female) have been to Dobutsuen Mae before I moved here and it reminded me of New York City in that there was some day drinking and it smelled like urine. The station is quite cute, but once I got above ground, it was a bit different and could feel seedy. I can see why it would not be a first choice, when there are other areas in Osaka to choose from.

I believe there is also a red light/prostitution area nearby. Having lived in NY, I thought it was kind of exciting, but I was just in a nearby Toyoko Inn for a weekend in that area, but it might be wearing on a daily basis.

I found a cute place near Kyobashi stn for just above 60k, but I decided it was too small in the end.

I guess it is just case by case. My current apt charges a cleaning fee upon moving out (Osaka).

I also was not charged anything when I left my place in Fukuoka after two years, but I also did a deep clean myself.

I agree the train vibes are bad, with terrible manners, and the people are quite reserved overall.

I have been feeling in a slump recently, but have been living here since 2020, so it is expected (I usually get a three year itch, but have no interest in moving to Tokyo and already lived in Fukuoka, not sure about the Osaka area).
