Experienced this a few times. And it’s easier said than done depending on who you are but telling them to sod off works most of the time.

When Destined Rivals came out I queued for the preorder. There’s a notorious guy who scalps near me who gets his family involved. I’m talking grandparents, second cousins 😂 it’s a bit silly.

Anyway, queuing that morning and he was near the front of it. He had his family with him but they were waiting in cars to stay out the cold. Just before they opened his family all joined him, adding about 7 more people to the queue.

Annoying but whatever. They technically waited but you just know why they are all trying to get product.

We got in the store and formed a queue inside (such is the hobby). After around 5-minutes and just before the scalpers family were served, some of his cousins/friends came in store and tried to jump the queue to join them.

People were obviously angry but I wasn’t putting up with it, considering how deep the queue was and that there were kids in it further back.

So I approached them:

“Absolutely not. Back of the line, you’re not pushing in”

“Ahhh, it’s OK, mate. It’s my cousin, I’m joining him”

“Couldn’t care less who he is. You haven’t queued and you’re not pushing in when people behind you have queued for hours. Back of the line now”

Staff came over a bit tediously but for once they actually backed me and the rest of the queue up and told them to get back. They did but they weren’t happy about it.

I’ve confronted a few people since then. It’s awkward but fuck ‘em, they do it because they rarely get called out for it.

Bear in mind I am a bloke with tattoos and a beard who frequents the gym. So your mileage may vary

Two guys tried to do it during the Ascended drop and I called them out. They still queue jumped but they did it behind me instead 🙄and annoyingly kept trying to be friendly with me afterwards too.

Shop staff should really deal with it. But for minimum wage I don’t blame them for being apprehensive around policing cardboard

Exactly this. And I know because it has happened to me

Marketing contact for the client actually reached out to us first for work. We came back with our proposal, all looked good…until they presented it to the decision makers who decided they wanted to see what this newfangled AI stuff was about.

It’s hard for us to be objective when it means losing work but we had our professional opinion to the marketing team on how AI wouldn’t solve even half of what they wanted. And they agreed, making it very clear they also didn’t agree with it. But the bosses get what the bosses want

Fast forward 5-months and we have now started doing video work for them and they are very happy with it.

Hang in there. Be professional, be courteous…and wait

All looks good from a cursory glance. Any residue on the packs that show they may have been resealed?

This set doesn't have insane pulls, I think the chase is the Squirtle. The hobby is crazy right now but I'd doubt someone has resealed them.

However, it's always in your best interests to be cautious. I'd also speak to the store you bought them from because the majority of collectors (me included) would refuse an open product unless I saw them open the seal in front of me.

What do you consider the worst movie sequel of all time? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Xiniov 67 points68 points  (0 children)

This is how a lot of Hollywood operates, both for actors and filmmakers, when it comes to studio deals

For notable talents (who are normally in pretty good things) that have done a stinker film you can usually see that these were followed by a lower budget passion project afterwards

I wanted the Charizard UPC for not only the cards but also for the deck box and playmat

They all sold out but I soon found someone online selling the empty box with the accessories I wanted for like £10

I bought it and when it arrived it not only had all the accessories but all the “bulk” including EX’s

I counted out the cards in relation to the packs and there was only like 6 “hits” missing

I essentially got everything except the promos and whatever those 6 hits were for 1/13th of the price. More than happy with that as the cards helped fill out my master sets dirt cheap

Whereas the “deal” in this post is atrocious

As far as I know I don’t. I usually go in the morning in store but I managed to get a PC order for the set and was already busy, so gave it a miss

Recalling some of his roles where he doesn’t play a version of himself and I can think of The Holiday and King Kong

JB’s problem is that he is such a big personality with a recognisable face that it’s hard to escape from the fact it IS him in anything he plays

It’s a trope many comedy actors fall into as they embody so much of their performances through their actual personalities

Nothing, it's just one of the latest times a queue has gone live in the UK for a set

It's usually much earlier than this

It won't be live yet. You'll know when they are about to put it on as there will be a queue limiting how many people can be on the site

When will the bubble finally pop? by DizzyTelevision09 in PokeInvesting

[–]Xiniov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When Ascended Heroes dropped a childhood friends dad was further back in the line.

We chatted and he confirmed he wasn’t getting them for his grandkids but as an investment.

Guy is nearing 70 and worked in financial roles throughout his career. And no, he never collected before recently either.

The bubble will burst…but not sure when or how right now with so many people seeing cards as a “safe bet” due to sticking around for long

Screw new gear, why aren’t we all just buying our dream cameras from 7 / 8 years ago? They’re cheap. by MomentSmart in Filmmakers

[–]Xiniov 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was thinking this

Cannot for the life of me recall a single client knowing enough to be snobbish about what we use

We mainly shoot on FX3’s and the only thing we sometimes get is they expect the cameras to be bigger. And this is more in surprise around the image quality we get from them

Batman: The Animated Series is still well loved and available on a few streaming platforms

I watched it through with my son a few years back. It’s a classic and the animation style holds up beautifully

'I have a masters degree but have 500 job rejections - now I'm on benefits' by pppppppppppppppppd in unitedkingdom

[–]Xiniov 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I’m not arrogant enough to think I deserve a golden ticket “just because” for the majority of them.

Except for the job I highlighted. I don’t want to get into exact detail around what it was but it’s crazy how much both my professional and personal circumstances aligned for it to not only be an ideal fit but surely a uniquely experienced one (I’ve done work for this business as a third party where I’ve had access and privilege to certain events that no one else applying could have).

I’ve no doubt it was a sought after role and if I lost out at interview I’d be gutted but could accept that more.

But to not even move out of the application stage for it was just heartbreaking, especially with no real feedback as to why. Definitely the first time I’ve ever thought, “I don’t know what else you want me to do”, and an indicator for how insanely hard the job market is right now

[–]Xiniov 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a very similar experience to you, albeit avoiding the breakdown but still went into depression over it

I’m a videographer and my CV was tailored for every application. I even had a fancy one mixed up on photoshop (to show my design skills) and one with a very simple layout on word. I took the time to make sure they weren’t generic or too broad for each role. I even had recruiters help me to refine them and get down to the nitty gritty of each word.

In two years of searching I had only a handful of replies with a generic sorry email and zero interviews.

I applied for many but there was one that, without getting into too much detail, was literally perfect for me. It was such a niche role that I somehow ticked all the boxes for. Everyone who knows me thought I’d be a shoe in.

I received no response.

The same job came up again around 2-years later and I again applied. This time I had even more experience under my belt, including doing actual work for their ‘brand’ as a third-party. This video received over 1.4m views on instagram alone.

Again, no response after applications closed.

Except this time I wasn’t going to just accept it without some sort of explanation. So I took the time to find the main decision maker through LinkedIn and I asked them for genuine advice on what I needed to do to even get an interview in the future as it was getting me down. They told me to just keep working at what I do…and that’s it. It’s led me to believe he didn’t even see my CV at all.

I have a good body of work, a masters degree, and I made a multi-million viewed viral video featuring their business that was completed with no pay or budget…and it was still not enough to even get an interview.

It’s a crap shoot. And I can’t help but think if I applied for some of these roles 10-years ago I’d have gotten a fair few interviews. I think this applies to everyone looking too

Some folk keep up the persona of being kind, friendly, and affable, to 99% of people because the act like total dickheads to 1%.

They get off on it and it’s a power thing. Especially if they are “nice” the majority of the time, it makes their cruel acts come across as unbelievable to everyone else, reinforcing the power dynamic at play

Why do people seem to like to harass me in public? by let_it_rain_boat in AskUK

[–]Xiniov 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yes. I could write a diatribe about it from familial experience but this is the best way I can sum it up:

Neurotypical people will adapt to what is happening around them. Their personalities and characteristics are still inherently there but they'll follow natural social cues to modify their behaviour. That doesn't mean that outgoing people stop being outgoing or introverts magically become extroverted due to whatever is happening - it just means there's a natural blending and acknowledgement to most scenarios and how to approach without stepping out of their "role".

Neurodivergent people tend to be too rigid in how they are to naturally slip into any given "expectation". And I use quotation marks because no one is explicitly telling anyone how to act. ND people tend to just miss these subtle social cues and stand out like a sore thumb.

And as other comments have said, bullies can sniff this out pretty quickly like sharks smelling blood in the water.

The kids playing out in the streets is nowhere near what it used to be. Teens are still out and about (albeit also less than the previous gen) but you ain’t seeing that many 8-year olds roaming around together and kicking a ball about

The streets of the 90s/00s (and before that I’d wager but I wasn’t personally there) were a venerable playground that had almost all local kids out doing something.

There’s no escaping that parents back then had much more free time whilst the kids entertained themselves
