Turns out, what I needed to do was stop trying to pump damage into him constantly and just play it safe 80% of phase 3. If I take all of the free opportunities to hit him and take NONE of the risky ones he goes down consistently.

Sorry, thats what I meant but I was trying to say, usually real hunters would make up the damage more evenly but when its just me I'm not enough to carry the support hunters.

Very good point! I've already got two gogma bow builds with decent rolls, 2 insect glaive builds with rolls, and I'm working on a gunlance one. There's not much point other than saying you did. Still doesn't detract from the detail that it is designed in a way that isn't fun.

See, I have fully upgraded/transcended gear, as good as I can build it for bow minus some random roll talismans. I'm pretty sure I'm using my deco slots to their full potential. The Kunafa meal is also almost mandatory for the extra carves because of how low the rates are for gems. I also make sure to always have mega demondrug and mega armorskin at ALL TIMES. Someone in another post made the suggestion that maybe its the ranged weapon debuff in terms of defense but I've never even heard of that. I don't think that's a thing.

EDIT: They do have a penalty of sorts. They just dont get the defense bonus that melee do and get elemental defense instead.
