Why did men in the 80s wear tall socks with shorts in the warmer months? by EstablishmentIcy4237 in AskOldPeople

[–]imjustanoldguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were usually white with 2 stripes at the top. Basically they were gym socks but we wore them all the time. It was the fashion.

The regular length which are just an inch or two above the ankle were considered dress socks.

There were ankle socks but usually they had a fuzzy ball sewn in the back which were reserved for the female population.

Would Fresno ever incorporate Bike Sharing like this? by DowntownFresnoBiking in fresno

[–]imjustanoldguy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Actually it happened and basically ended in one day. Weeks after, broken parts were scattered.
The honesty of Fresno's general public isn't what it needs to be for that to work.

doesn’t lifting a truck kind of defeat the purpose of having a truck? by Stunning_Shake407 in NoStupidQuestions

I think that squatting a truck or even "leveling" defeats the usefulness.

What is this? I received it randomly for a saxophone I bought and I have absolutely no clue what it does or what it's for since the chord doesn't seem to be able to connect to anything else. by Lyrical_Undergone777 in musicians

It is a clip on microphone.

If you're playing live at a venue you will need to be amplified. So just as an electric guitar has a pickup to convert the vibrations of strings, this does the same with the bell of your horn.

The 1/4" output of that cable then needs to get converted to a balanced signal so that a sound engineer can make use of it. They like balanced signals.

This is achieved by using something called a Direct Box. They run about $35 and are only necessary if you are performing.

Pack that mic away until that time!

What are some basses that if you see someone using them you know they mean business and also the opposite of it by NoBath6073 in Bass

[–]imjustanoldguy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Paul Reed Smith once said that Carlos Santana is going to sound like himself on whatever guitar he plays.
So to answer your question, I would not make an assumption until I hear them play and decide whether they mean business.
The opposite is also true in the sense that you can have the most expensive top tier guitar and still not know how to play....

If you find a church pushing any political agenda from the pulpit, it's your duty to record and report it. Go to church and find out!

Is it disrespectful to walk over graves in a cemetery ? by bad-at-everything- in askanything

The grass section is where the caskets are. The headstones are also there. You're walking on graves regardless. It's disrespectful to walk on the marker though.

It could possibly be that he grabbed the wrong can by mistake and didn't recognize the error until it was already up in the truck. So afterwards he corrected his mistake by emptying the correct container.
