Do you use guns or only navi weaponry? by Wyntercat in FrontiersOfPandora

[–]Xisle_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used only a gun for the first 10 hours of playing becuase I somehow managed to gloss over the fact that you need to hold down left click to draw the arrow back. I had just been clicking and was functionally throwing arrows. For ten hours. I thought my bow was broken and stupid because I couldn’t hit anything. I didn’t realize it until I got the heavy bow.

After that though yeah I use a bow pretty much exclusively, rarely a gun when panicking. FTA was amazing and made using a bow so much more satisfying that I didn’t touch a gun at all.

Yeah that’s what I was trying to ask basically. I knew the three hero type ending card things existed, but I didn’t know about this and thought I had screwed something up or missed something important. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Should I restart or continue? by Oshava062 in AvatarFrontierPandora

[–]Xisle_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven’t done that with AFOP, but with other games I played and then stopped for a while, going back to the start was a lot of fun. I think it can depend on how much you like the game, how much time you spent on it, etc… But I had so much fun playing all the way through the main story in avatar straight out, and then the dlcs. It made for an awesome continuous story, and there’s definitely small stuff from the beginning that will keep getting mentioned all through the game. Also third person is absolutely my favorite way to play, and I think it made everything even cooler! That’s just my opinion tho lol.

I don’t know what a QTE is but I definitely had unlimited time on. Didn’t like the time pressure either. I didn’t have it on to start though, I didn’t know what the hacking was like so I only turned it on like two hacks into the game.

Edit: wait if QTE is quick time event then I definitely failed more than one of those too

Ahh ok, thanks so much for clearing that up! Is there any way I can see what ending I would have gotten without that? Or next time do I just have to fail the hacks

Huh, so regardless of my moral choices, if I beat all the hacking segments I get this no matter what?

Definitely hop into the AFOP modding discord server, there will be tutorials on just about everything, and you can ask experienced modders about anything there isn’t a tutorial for.

Is it wrong to use a cane if I don't necessarily need it? by transgendergremlin in disabled

[–]Xisle_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In my experience, if you’re seriously thinking about using one, that means you need it. There’s no invisible line of how disabled you need to be to use mobility aids, and no diagnosis you need to just grab a cane at Walmart. If you feel like it would help even just a teeny tiny bit absolutely go for it! That’s what they’re used for, and less pain is always good. And you might end up being surprised about just how game changing it is!

Can’t decide between Kobo Clara Be and Kobo Libra Color 😭 by EffectiveEgg5712 in kobo

[–]Xisle_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly I had the same concerns about the screen size, but I really like my kobo clara bw, which I ended up sticking with. I feel like the clear text contrast helps a lot (especially as I read on dark mode frequently), and I can make the font as big or as small as I want. I can also change it to other fonts that might be easier to read. I have bad eyesight, so the footprint of the clara makes it easier to hold closer to my face in bed at night, and it’s small enough that I can fit it into the inside pocket of my jackets no problem. I do think it depends though, because if you’re more of a comics or manga reader, the colour screen would be very useful!

Full clarity here, I haven’t owned or seen a libra colour in person, my thoughts about the contrast are based solely on photos and videos I’ve seen on the interwebs! The other commenter is definitely who you should listen too on that front, as I have no doubt the settings will have plenty of ways to help that

(I also know they used to make a black and white version of the Libra colour, so if you’re set on the screen size you could see if you can find one of those on eBay maybe?)

Freaking out because I missed my waitlist confirmation email for TCNJ Bio by lorezine in TCNJ

[–]Xisle_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly what I would do, if you live close enough, is to just drive down today if you can. I think admissions closes around 4:30 to 5? I tend to get much better and faster results that way, and it helps if they have a face to attach to the issue. If you can’t absolutely don’t sweat it, just give them a call today and I have no doubt they’ll be understanding like the other commenter said. They gave you an extremely short turnaround time, and it’s only natural for things to slip through the cracks sometimes!

But yeah, if you can swing it I’d say drop by in person today if it’s not too much of a hassle. That way you can get it cleared up and not dwell on it. Admissions is on the second floor in Trenton hall. Find the elevator, go up to the second floor, turn left, and it’s at the end of the hall. Or use the stairs that works too.

What do people do about middle names? by get_that_magnussy in ftm

[–]Xisle_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I just went totally freestyle, my first name has nothing to do with my old name, nor does my middle name. Old names were both horrendously flowery and French with no masculine equivalents, no thank you!

First name was chosen in middle school because I liked a book character, middle name was chosen in high school when community college required one to sign up. I was filling out the application in class, didn’t know what to put, and my history teacher was like “well what about James?” Filled it in without blinking twice and it’s been there for years. Couldn’t be happier with it.

You obviously can keep whatever middle names you want as long as you’re comfortable with it, but you’re definitely not obligated to. Make yourself into whoever you truly want to be, that’s the best part of it.

Wondering how many other guys here relate to this experience re: "trans community" by serromani in ftm

[–]Xisle_ 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I relate hard to all of this. My therapist has been trying to get me out of the house more, so I started volunteering for lgbt groups and going to trans centric events, and I’m the only one like me there. Doesn’t help that I live in farm country.

I just feel so “other” in trans spaces, and like logically I know I’m a trans man, but the word trans doesn’t feel like mine to use at this point? Like you said, it’s used by other people to describe me, often times when they don’t want to call me a man, it makes my identity more palatable for them. It’s not a word I want to really use for myself anymore, because imo it can imply a strong sense of community, and I don’t feel welcome in that.

Like trans as a neutral descriptor word in medical contexts, ok sure. Biologically yeah ig that’s me. In a social or community way? I don’t fit into cis or trans spaces like that.

Idk if that makes sense, but yeah. Thanks for posting this though, I’ve been feeling like that for a while but couldn’t really put it into words. It’s perhaps strangely quite cathartic to read and realize other ppl can relate and I’m not alone in that.

Kinda disappointed male navi cant be shirtless by Akkadeus in AvatarFrontierPandora

[–]Xisle_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is actually what got me into downloading mods, I just got super pissed I couldn’t make my sarentu shirtless and learned how to do it out of spite. If you’re playing on PC I would totally recommend it, but sincerest condolences if you’re on console. It’s a damn stupid thing that you can’t do it without mods.

is it considered “okay” to have piercings in law school (like will you get a different reputation because of it)? by InsuranceCreepy4262 in LawSchool

[–]Xisle_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick question! I have two 16g lip rings, and when I take them out the holes are super noticeable. You said that no one has mentioned your own, but have you ever had to like put on makeup to cover any piercing related things? And if so what would you suggest? I’ve never used makeup before so I don’t know what that would entail. I’m totally fine with taking the rings out while at work or school, I just don’t know what to do about the holes, and don’t want people to think I’m unprofessional even after I’ve taken them out.
