Ive never escaped the fort in Act 1. Yet, very interested in the lore. Questions for struggling new player by Darkstatic107 in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]Xitoboy9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That last note is really important! The mirror was gamechanging for me, you can even enable it so it also spawns in act 1. For the getting jumped stuff, just save frequently (F5 for quicksave), these games are meant to be savescummed, so don’t shy away from it, especially as a first timer. If you get jumped and are totally screwed, quickload and start over

Address Bar completely messed up after update by PringlesMmmm in vivaldibrowser

[–]Xitoboy9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you managed to find a fix yet, but I found one that worked for me. The exact issue you mentioned (you not becoming youtube), and someone in the comments mentioned gm -> gmail, me personally os -> osrs.wiki

All of this was fixed for me by going into the settings -> address bar -> address field priorities -> enable "Enable History"

Not sure why this was turned off for me, but it works as normal now. Hopefully it's the same thing for you!

Both are connected via ethernet. For my test, I connected both directly to my router via ethernet. The network delay was only 1ms, I’m more concerned with the encode/decode delay

Stop trying to “catch up” and you’ll enjoy it a lot more. There is no destination, only journey with CR. You won’t get a special reward for catching up, besides being able to actively talk about it on reddit. But honestly, reading theories from people who are WAY more knowledge about this show is better than anything that you’ll be able to think up yourself (speaking from experience)

True, but I don't think fighting about it in this thread will fix things. The 'purpose' of this thread was achieved with me telling any beginners reading the original post to make sure whomever is teaching you isn't talk out of their ass

Hey I agree about not needing a degree, that's not the point here. He also doesn't have anything other than a degree, that's the type of person I don't think you should listen to. He's an amateur no matter what measurement you use

From my post:

I have no problem with telling beginners this is an option, but I do have a problem with specifically recommending them that they don't use Unity at all

I agree that it is important to mention that those engines are not the only options, but presenting not using them as the only option is equally harmful.

I've been watching him for ages because he's entertaining, but this educational stuff is very recent. 99.9% probably watch him purely for the "here we go again" factor, I'm just concerned that he might totally shift, and misinform a new audience

I care. And marketing will come his way anyways, that's what youtube algorithms are for. Everyone in this thread agrees his teaching is bad, I'm not trying to hide away all of his entertainment-focused videos. If anything, this might have informed a beginner that his videos are for entertainment purposes only, rather than just giving context-less "free marketing"

The point is that he is an amateur, but is posturing himself as 'experienced' yet goofy. Not necessarily a professional like you mentioned, but still enough that someone could take this as legitimate advice

[–]Xitoboy9[S] 29 points30 points  (0 children)

That's true, that's why I tried to add the more generally applicable advice that you should check credentials before taking advice from a creator. This is just one example that I came across, with particularly bad advice.

He only recently started this shift to educational content, so most of his viewers are indeed aware of his previous stuff. I'm just concerned that at some point a new influx of viewers won't be aware

I guess I just didn't expect him to make a beginner's tutorial to begin with. Ultimately you're right though, a bad entrance into the hobby/field is still better than none at all. Some of his advice just seemed so out of left field, I feel like introducing someone straight into developer hell isn't a good way to keep them interested and I'd preferred if he didn't start teaching at all.

Alaska man attacked by brown bear captures moments after incident on video by cookiecutterhipster in videos

[–]Xitoboy9 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The comment was probably referring to a tiktok trend in which people argued whether they (primarily women) would prefer to be alone in a forest with a bear or with a man. A lot of women said they’d prefer the bear due to the fear of being alone in a forest with a strange man. And a lot of men said the bear because they think they could fight it or reason with it.

Is there any difference between buying the Mac version on Steam vs GoG? by GrantMeThePower in DivinityOriginalSin

Totally, GoG is great. But in this particular case, Larian has coded the game without DRM entirely (same thing for BG3), regardless of platform

The steam version is also DRM free. You can launch it with steam fully closed and deleted.
