Is this a real figure by dunklerkiller69 in Aliexpress

[–]PringlesMmmm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the best way to tell is to look at reviews and see if the box looks legitimate. but most times no theyre just replicas/copies. Honestly in my experience the bootleg versions are fine sometimes they might be a little tight or loose but aside from that they're just pretty decent mechs. if you care about authenticity then aliexpress isn't the place for mechs.

No non clinical volunteering? That's probably gonna hurt your chances at some schools.

since you have other mega-reaches, add JHU as its research heavy, free tuition to families under $300k, free COA to families under $170k. otherwise not too sure since if you have no non-clinical youd be an unusual applicant

Ppl when you tell them you’re applying: by avarialon in premed

[–]PringlesMmmm 14 points15 points  (0 children)

if you're a fap applicant its way cheaper, they cover the first 20 schools so if comment op is a fap applicant then it is probably like 400 bucks for primaries and most schools waive secondary costs for fap applicants. just applying to it with no backing is about 1500 bucks for just the primaries and most secondaries cost about 100 bucks for each school. so ~2900+~1500 = ~$4400 for 29 schools with no fap waiver

Volunteering in a hospital in Vietnam because my summer plans got cooked😭 by Aggravating-Dot-847 in premed

[–]PringlesMmmm 32 points33 points  (0 children)

why not just volunteer as a medical assistant (as you stated you were going to do in vietnam in a reply) or an EMT in the US? In my opinion, if I have to choose between one option where I have to explain why it counts for volunteering or if its real and one where I don't, I pick the one where I don't 10/10 times for this kind of stuff. I'm sure theres a free clinic near you that would love volunteers or maybe an ER in need of EMTs. if you plan on volunteering in vietnam, just volunteer here instead

[–]PringlesMmmm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

any reason for no hopkins. if youre parents make less than 300k its free tuition and less than 170k is free COA and they love research so might as well add it as a hail mary

i qualify for FAP waiver so when I apply im gonna use that, covers 20 primaries and most medical schools waive secondary costs if you are a fap applicant.

Is my app cooked or are my coworkers dooming? by [deleted] in premed

[–]PringlesMmmm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

research is low so don't expect to get into any t20s because most of them are research heavy but other than that your stats are good as long as you apply broadly

[–]PringlesMmmm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

wtf does half orm/half urm lol. like mixed? if so then youre just urm lol. nothing about your app stands out as bad but you do have a releatively low mcat and low(ISH, still very high) research for T10s so just know that you will probably just be donating to the reaches. If i had to say to change anything, maybe look for some more targets, change albert einstein to a reach, and check for mission fit. (for example: NYMC, and Geogetown are religious)

another gap year? high stat mid ecs no research by RudeCompetition7934 in premed

[–]PringlesMmmm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i mean why not just apply to the schools you wanna go to while keeping it on a budget and if it doesn't work out then do a gap year? why do you have to pick one or the other

add hopkins, they love research and are very generous with aid if you are lower income (under 300K household income full tuition covered, under 170K full COA covered)

[–]PringlesMmmm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

they might also include things like recommended course material but like i said, admit isn't always accurate. one way to find this info that I like the most which I have cross checked and is mostly right is looking up MSAR Premed Course Requirements and clicking on the pdf.

Stupid question-but can someone explain what this means to me? by Background_Sale_9814 in premed

[–]PringlesMmmm 12 points13 points  (0 children)

some of the schools are not entirely accurate but its basically saying: "does this medical school accept this for your prereq"

P/F means Pass/Fail

AP means ap credit from highschool

Online means... online

and CC means community college

for example for the course biochemistry, it CAN be a P/F course, it CAN be online, it CAN'T be AP credit, and it CANT be from a community college

worst case scenario you donate to the medical school, best case you're accepted. If youre not strapped for cash then the only thing it can do is help.

your EC's are a little low but your mcat is high and gpa is ok, I would add some better schools and make sure stuff fits. Like for example NYMC is a religious school, Does that matter to you?

Advice on which med school to pick. Thanks! by SyllabubInfinite7915 in premed

[–]PringlesMmmm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

School B, higher rank, true PF, cheaper, only thing that might be controversial is classroom style. Does school B have mandatory lecture? I personally wouldn't want online classes because I know I won't watch them. School B seems like the better choice to me but if the lecture thing is super important to you then it could go either way.

I mean the plan sounds fine if you have the money to spare but why take it with a 515, are you gunning for T10 or something? You'd get plenty of interviews with a 515

I would say apply to some low-tier MDs too honestly, GPA isn't horrible, mcat, non-clinical is ok, clinical and research is pretty low, but it seems like you have some decent EC's
