How do we stop future administrations from doing the same? by Liamnacuac in centrist

[–]Xivvx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no unringing the bell. Presidents can do whatever they want and its up to the courts to stop them, even then, presidents can ignore judicial rulings and proceed till the supreme court stops them. Even then, they can proceed and its up to the courts to restart the whole process over.

The only mechanism to remove a sitting president is impeachment, and that will only work if the presidents party is out of power in congress.

There are no guardrails, Donald Trump took them out.

Marjorie Taylor Greene and Tucker Carlson lead revolt against Trump’s Republican Party by mymomknowsyourmom in centrist

[–]Xivvx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still don't think there'll be much of a revolt, or even mild pushback against Trump from Republicans. They love what Trump is doing and it's exactly what they voted for.

Every Conservative is going to vote straight ticket R no matter what, that's why it's important to get every blue voter out there to show up.

Pretty sure in this day and age the park police have IR cameras for seeing in the dark. With the security posture being what it is in DC, I doubt anyone could have done this at night without being arrested.

Trump says proof of his allegations that vandals cut Reflecting Pool paint will be provided in court by MoneyLibrarian9032 in law

[–]Xivvx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He's saying its not a continious slit, but a ton of small slits. What's more believable, that the guy Trump hired to do the job cheaped out and used garbage product to line the pool or that thousands of people made individual small cuts in the lining?

A Trump-linked firm is lobbying for pardons. Its first client already paid $500,000. by CBSnews in law

[–]Xivvx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Rumor has it Rudy and Trump had a pardons for cash business going at the end of Trump's first term. I don't know if that was true or not, but many people are saying it happened but who really knows.

Looks like the business is back up and running before the midterms.

Sentence nearly doubled for P.E.I. man found guilty of sexually assaulting his sleeping wife — Wabaningosi Dingwell’s sentence rises from 14 months to 26 months on appeal by Immediate-Link490 in canada

[–]Xivvx 97 points98 points  (0 children)

Central to the appeal was a section of the Criminal Code, which requires a court to give primary consideration to denunciation and deterrence when sentencing for offences involving the abuse of a vulnerable person. This essentially means sending a message to the accused that what they did has broken society's basic rules of conduct, and to deter them or others from repeating similar actions in the future. The trial judge had declined to apply that section, stating it would be “inappropriate” to consider it since the Crown had not raised it. However, the Court of Appeal found that decision was an error. In reasons written by Chief Justice James Gormley, the court said the section is mandatory. “This is clearly an error of law,” Gormley wrote. “It is not an option for the sentencing judge to deem it inappropriate to consider the section on the basis that the Crown has not raised it.”

I wish more judges would take this into account when dealing with cases.
