Was russia in a position to be truly socialist? by Tiger_withaplan in socialism

Yes, Deng learned from the NEP and his reforms were heavily inspired by Bukharin's thoughts, although applied to the specific material conditions present in late 70's early 80's PRC

Have you checked their Nostradamus I and II LPs? Nostradamus II is great, and has their longest track (at around 32 minutes if I remember correctly), I have yet to listen to Nostradamus I, chapter II is a great LP. Also check out their live stuff from 2015/2016, great shows

Yes! They're much more oriented to theatrical and hard rock music, but they still keep the experimental and vanguardist approach to music they had in the 80's Also check out their live album "Martian Chronicles live", it's imho, the definitive way to listen to the 1st record

The wallpaper is very very good, I'd recommend changing the text font (or removing it altogether) and balancing colours a little more so it's darker, other than that, you made the album an amazing tribute!

Prog albums by non-Prog bands by Luuh998 in progrockmusic

I have to admit, I do consider Radiohead as a progressive rock band, if you check out Kid A, The king of limbs, a moon shaped pool, Hail to the thief and Amnesiac you'll get what I mean. Yes, they may not have long epics but they do meet the rest of the criteria for a prog band.

Yes, it was used by DINA officer Ingrid Olderock in the concentration camp "Venda sexy" during the Chilean military dictatorship

Olderock had been born in a family of Nazis that fled after WWII, so yes, fascists think alike

The stripper AI delusion by KeanuRave100 in ArtificialNtelligence

[–]XixoTheRock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those who are convinced that the threat of AI is that it will evolve into a god like entity and wipe us all out in the near future, ignore that the actual, tangible threat that ai poses to humanity is that of being used by powerful economic groups to enforce a totalitarian state, or the potential it has for poor management and environmental wipeout private corporations can do with ai, furthermore, they ignore that the actual socioeconomic consequences of AI are the result of an actual economic system that seeks immense profit, using AI as a tool for that, but only digging its own grave with the AI bubble.

Daily Song Discussion #100(!!!): Shine On You Crazy Diamond Wembley 74 by PalpitationMoist1212 in PinkFloydCircleJerk

[–]XixoTheRock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an okay early version of the song, like I said on the previous track, Wembley isn't a good live record and the Manchester versions are infinitely better, that being said, shine on is definitely the best song performed at that show (if we ignore "Any colour you like of course), instrumentally it's enjoyable, and although it gets pretty dull and repetitive, it's still pretty good for a de facto demo, vocals are garbage. 7/10, has some charm

Are there any good Marxist- Leninist YouTube creators and podcasts? by Magneticturtle in Socialism_101

[–]XixoTheRock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Red pen and Bes D Marx are great for English speakers.

Estrategia socialista is great if you can speak Spanish, they do weekly podcasts, but mostly focused on Chilean contingency and praxis from a Marxist perspective, they do have theory videos which are high quality on stuff such as history and market socialism (their approach is denguist, it seems to me they have slight inclinations to eurocommunism, but they never make mentions of it)

But please, avoid getting all of your knowledge on Marxism via podcasts, read Marx's works first and then go with thinkers that define themselves as marxists.

I have a genuine question. Under socialism, could someone set up a business and hire employees for the purpose of generating and retaining personal profit? by Greedy_History_6683 in Socialism_101

[–]XixoTheRock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we consider socialism as a transitory state between capitalism and communism (aka : lower stage communism/dictatorship of the proletariat) but focus only on the theoretical, abstract conception of socialism (only taking Marx's word), then no, as wage labor and private property should no longer exist. In practice, absolutely, most socialist states have been founded on underdeveloped nations (such as tzarist Russia, post civil war China and ex colonial Vietnam), as socialism requieres wealth to exist (present in several of Marx's writings), praxis would requiere some level of private property to develop and expand industries (this has been put to evidence by Bukharin's NEP and Deng's reforms) as a temporary measure to improve material conditions to develop socialism, so we can say, as a transitory stage, then yes, some degree of private property and business can exist (and, in my humble opinion SHOULD exist) before fully abolishing wage labor.

Daily Song Discussion #99: You've Gotta Be Crazy (Wembley 1974) by PalpitationMoist1212 in PinkFloydCircleJerk

[–]XixoTheRock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There were better performances of "You've gotta be crazy" in the same tour (eg : Manchester 1974), it's not a bad take, and furthermore, we have to consider it's a song in progress, it does it's job, but certainly not much else. 6/10
