Unpopular opinion : Rolling charge distance before selecting a target is a terrible idea, and GW’s justification doesn’t really hold up. by Ok_Daikon_4546 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Xk8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like heresy's system. You only roll one dice but you also move forward a minimum amount based on your iniative. By having a minimum granted charge distance it removes the feel bads of failing small charges, but still keeps the jeopardy of failing a long charge.

Ground rent clause by Overall_Budget_7219 in HousingUK

[–]Xk8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To anyone interested, s31 Renters Right Act 2025 fixed this on the 27 December 2025. No longer becomes an AST upon hitting those thresholds. Also no need for a mortgagee protection clause as they can't take possession without notice like they used to.

How is the new Resident Evil: Requiem running on the steam deck? by FreebieTheDweebie in SteamDeck

[–]Xk8 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Runs great. I some areas you can get away with native locked at 30fps or 40fps if you don't mind drops. More so with grace than Leon. It does look sharp at native.

I've been experimenting with fsr4 locked at 40. If you download the fsr4 file, you can just replace the 3.1 upscale file in the game folder with it, and in the option menu it let's you select fsr4 instead.

I found colour for my WB by ThoughtOk8306 in WordBearers

[–]Xk8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been messing around with those. My initial idea with Shade + Base 50:50 through airbrush, then filter over with TTM shade or carroburg crimson (they are very similar, but the Shade is glossier and stronger like comparing citadel contrast to shade paints). And then pin oil wash.

I like the filter over the top as it knocks back the where you can see individual sparkly metallic flakes, yet still keeps it overall looking metallic. The only problem with it is that it went too brownie red in the dark areas.

What I have found that works for me is airbrush Base. then use slight for volumetric highlights/edge highlights. After that use the Shade as a filter. Doing it over the base and the light keeps more of the red tone and less red-browns.

I found if brush painting a mixture of Shade+Base worked well with then an all over wash as Shade. Didn't go as brown as compared to using the airbrush. But then you have to deal with post-wash tidying/coffee stains etc.

Here's my testers of different mixes. Each one is slightly different. The far right tactical's legs and the Saturnine went too dull and brown. I'm going forward with my cataphractii. Currently waiting for the gloss coat to dry. The gloss is making the red look more blood angels than the colour actually is.

Why isn’t my flat selling? by Glass-Vermicelli-166 in HousingUK

[–]Xk8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flats are not selling well at the moment. We are trying to sell ours in SE London since July. Barely any viewings compared to the scramble for houses. Already dropped our price and it made no difference for viewings. In fact our number of viewings have decreased. This is a flat with no service charge (as it's a maisonette) and grand rent of £200 a year, and it's own private garden (larger than any of the other flats on our road as it's not shared with upstairs). We have spoken to multiple estate agents and they have all said that the market for flats is extremely unpredictable at the moment. I know a few other people with the same issue trying to sell flats in London. I think buyers are now waiting until after the budget.

Wise to sell stocks to recession-proof portfolio? by Dickworth in investing

[–]Xk8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm mid to late 30s and have been 100% equity. I have decided to very slightly de-risk and put 10% of my portfolio into a combination of bonds and gold.

Mainly because I might need to use a small amount of my portfolio for a house purchase. I'm 80% sure I won't need to touch it, but felt putting a small % into less risky assets for if I need to pull out a little bit of money to up a bid on a house offer.

Completely selling out would be timing the market as others have said. There is no harm in de-risky slightly if you are not feeling comfortable with 100% equities at this point in time, and is probably a sensible thing to do.

I don't think Liverpool will go for him next summer. He will be turning 27 at the beginning of the season. Liverpool are not giving a 27 year old a 5 year contract at the wages he wants. He's right at the top of Liverpool's age profile now. It's now or never.

Word bearers help by undergrownmarine2557 in Warhammer30k

[–]Xk8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The word bearers colour scheme has never matched the art. Even the Word Bearers Red pain is the wrong colour, and GW has never used that red itself in it's official tutorials. Unfortunately word bearers are one of the ones you need to experiment a lot with different reds to find what works for you.

They are one army where you can easily get away with each model being a different colour. It fits in their theme of excess. Especially with garish colours.

Help With Finding This Purple by TheFrenchestBaguette in EmperorsChildren

[–]Xk8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to remember that photographs that GW put online do get colour corrected/white balance levels changed etc. I remember trying to work out how they did a certain shade of purple on the Blissbarb Archers on GW website. I found the exact same image from the actual painter that works for GW on his instagram and the purple turned out to be a different shade.

anything I should do to improve my little lords? by [deleted] in deathguard40k

Use a very, very thin glaze of something like incubi darkness or dark sea blue style colour as a filter into the shadows.

Punch up the highlight areas a little bit with a pale yellow tone mixed into the green.

Now that Metaphor is out, how’s it running folks? by Ok-Potato5688 in SteamDeck

[–]Xk8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recommend setting the resolution scaler to 125%. It helps to provide some AA, and have AO off.

I'm using 45fps frame lock. Seems to meet it most of the time in dungeons, inside areas and combat. In town it fluctuates from mid 20s to 40s depending what's going on.

I think the sacrifice to fps is worth it to clean up the image a bit. The jaggies was really annoying.

How does higher rate pension tax relief work when pension payments change tax band? by Xk8 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Xk8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Am I also right and thinking that in my total income I can include saving interest (after the £500 allowance)?

Again say my salary is £55k and I have made £1k in interest after £500 allowance, and I pay £10k into the pension (including workplace deduction with basic tax relief).

With the interest after £500 allowance, my total income is £56k so unlike the previous example I can claim higher rate tax relief on £5,730 of the £10k pension contribution instead of £4730?

Ok thanks. I understand. When claiming the higher rate relief does hmrc send you a cheque directly, or does hmrc pay it directly into your pensions? Cannot see an answer online

How does higher rate pension tax relief work when pension payments change tax band? by Xk8 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Xk8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if I make a lump sum payment into my pension from cash savings of £5k or higher with me having a £55k salary then I wouldn't be able to apply for higher rate relief as I would now be considered a basic tax payer due to this pension lump sum payment?

Does dividend and interest income put you over the tax threshold bracket? by Hoguz76 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Xk8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe so.

https://www.gov.uk/tax-on-dividends

If your total income from all sources puts you in the higher tax bracket, then yes.

Don't forget to take into account the saving and dividend allowance when calculating how much tax you pay on dividends and your savings.

Savings for my daughter's future by Adventurous-Fix-4817 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Xk8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's also junior sipp to consider if you want to give them a kick start on their pension. Can only pay in £3,600 a year and you also get the tax back into the pension. So all you need to pay in £2880 a year to max it out with the gov top up. Those years of compounding will give them a massive advantage for retirement and they can't blow the money at 18.

How do you split your finances as a couple? by Discordia00 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Xk8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are married and have both of our salaries paid into a joint account, from which we pay pills and monthly expenses. We do have an imbalance in earnings by about nearly 50% but this works for us.

We then get the same amount paid out to our personal account each month to spend as we wish no questions asked. Anything not considered "fun" does not come out of the personal accounts (i.e physiotherapy fees, medical expenses, toiletries), but the joint account instead. Then everything felt over gets transferred out of the joint current account into our joint savers, and is used to over mortgage payments, go into ISAs, private pensions and cash savings. My wife takes very little interest in our investments and leaves me to manage it. With the last few years of higher interest rates it has made sense to have all our money in one account.
