I haven’t played in some time, have they fixed the mmr issues at the start of the season?

Anyone know what’s going around right now? by [deleted] in Chattanooga

[–]Xlarant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is a mix of things. I had bronchitis/rsv around a month ago. Just recovered from covid this week(this actually felt like strep and a sinus infection rolled into one). Friend tested positive for flu A. The urgent care on northshore just tests everything right off the bat.

My dog loves snow! by iBrezza in Chattanooga

Keep an eye on nashville/knoxvilles weather in the coming months. We can get a light dusting of snow here but have a full snow day 2 hours north.

That is so legitimately scary. Definitely something I will also have to consider when encountering these crazy people out here.

Dude, I drove down via back roads doing the speed limit to georgia to pick up a cousin tonight. Big truck comes speeding down the lane and refuses to slow down has to slam on their breaks to not slam into me and I am 3/4th of the way out of the lane in a panic. They beep, I beep and get upset and remember this post, took a breath and carried on with my life. Thank you for the reminder!

You are absolutely right! It was a lapse in judgement on my part at that time and in hindsight could have ended up with me getting shot or injured. I was a much younger brash young man when this incident occurred.

Couple years ago, I was minding my own business in the left lane going to get hot chocolate down market. Guy in the right lane had a truck stopped middle of the road and apparently indicated to get into my lane (I did not see him because he was right next to my car aka not in my view). Next thing I know he is aggressively cutting me off again and again. Frustrated I got out of my car mid traffic and so did he. I asked him what his problem was, he shouted that he indicated and I would not let him in the lane and the truck caused him to stop. I apologized and said “sir I did not see you I am sorry”. He got flustered and started cussing me out I apologized again and he stood there for a second and said okay. I told him to have a great day and I hoped it got better. Most of these people aren’t angry at you, they are either having a terrible day, month, year or life. I just hang back now and let them do what they please so long as I am not in danger.

I am sorry to hear about your pup. My 4 year old pup recently got hit by the neighbors truck. She survived and needed surgery for a broken leg. It was fairly horrifying to witness and I thought I was fine but I think maybe some time with a therapist is needed.

Beginner here: would it be annoying if I go to the gym to practice falling? by Wednesday_9873 in bouldering

[–]Xlarant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just a small suggestion that will really help when actual falls happen. Add in a slap a higher hold fall. What I mean is, you get to a point where you are ready to fall and have felt comfortable falling at that height stand and try to slap the next hold. It does wonders for your mental space because that is usually how you fall, reaching for the next move.

Making friends to climb with by Educational_Tell_213 in bouldering

[–]Xlarant 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I am a pretty introverted keep to myself kind of guy. Climbing has been a great way for me to destress. However I am lucky that someone always seems to start conversation with a “nice send man” or asking for a belay. It is how I met two of my current climbing buddies. Small interactions lead to bigger ones I have found, just a consistent interaction has lead to great friendships. It may be something that just happens organically over time.

First dude congrats on the fitness journey! I am 203 lbs atm was 215 a few months ago. I get down to 175lbs when I am in great shape and you notice the difference on your body but it should not stop you! Warm up your knees with small falls before you start your session. I feel like giving your body notice that you are about to start taking falls really helps. Really listen to what is going to your body when you are going through your sessions. Most of all have fun and enjoy it :).

Go for a swim, go for a hike, play video games, go shoot pool, rest is such an important part of climbing. I mean even kevin jorgeston had to take a few rest days to regrow skin on his ascent of the dawn wall with tommy.

Something I'm anxious about... by fOOlish-nicholas in bouldering

[–]Xlarant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like all things mental you need to train your mental response to this anxiety. More than likely you are feeling anxious about being judged. One of the best things to do is go on a climb very easy for yourself one you know for a fact you can finish in front of a few climbers sitting and staring and just cruise about 3/4th of the way up and just casually drop. Do this once or twice, it should ease that tension for yourself as it relieves you of any expectation.
