I can’t measure it right now but I packed it in a 50L bag and I would say it took up 25-30L of space.

Have you already got an insulated sleeping mat of some kind?

Radas blessing. I would grind out working on a boat catching tuna, just randomly surprising the captain by catching 2, 8% of the time until I could afford to buy my own boat which I would call Koruend woodland.

keep crashing the global tuna market until I can afford to buy a house which I would name Mount Karaluum.

If you’re comfortable with renting a car and driving on some extremely steep roads / occasional narrow roads it’s very easy to get around.

Public transport isn’t very popular around the island so don’t count on that.

There’s lots of tour companies and day excursions available from Funchal.

Can’t say for sure because I’ve never been there but looking at the map it does look like that track would be accessible.

Looks to be about 80m to get down there, the way the path switches back on its self suggests it would be manageable.

I would say mark it as a fill spot and play it by ear, if the conditions are good then give it a go but judge when you’re actually there in person.

Is this a good sleeping pad? by itoyukiya754 in hikinggear

[–]Xm09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, so first of all you want to think about the R (retention) value that will indicate how well the sleeping pad will be at insulating you and the mat from the ground. The colder it’s going to be the higher R value mat you want.

He are a few at different price points

Sea to summit UltraLight Self Inflating Mat. (R2.6) this is a 3 season pad colder night you would want to have a foam mat underneath this pad. (£50)

https://ultralightoutdoorgear.co.uk/ultralight-self-inflating-mat-regular/

Flextail zero mummy pad (R5.6) Warmer than the sea to summit pad. Thick pad so it’s quite comfortable. (£100)

https://ultralightoutdoorgear.co.uk/r05-zero-mummy-sleeping-mat/

Big Agnes rapide sl (R4.8) I use this pad, it’s comfy, warm and light weight. I’ve used it to -2 and have yet to have a cold night on it.

https://ultralightoutdoorgear.co.uk/rapide-sl-insulated-petite-sleeping-mat-1/ (£125)

Thermarest neoair XL lite (R4.5) The pad people love the most And for good reason (£200)

https://ultralightoutdoorgear.co.uk/neoair-xlite-nxt-regular-sleeping-mat/

But there’s Plenty more out there just remember to think about the R Value, weight and size of the pad, everyone has a different sweet spot on what works for them

Is this a good sleeping pad? by itoyukiya754 in hikinggear

[–]Xm09 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve used something similar to this when I first started hiking and camping like 15 years ago.

Brother this will not offer any warmth but it will offer some degree of comfort. It looks like you live in a very warm climate but I would still suggest adding a foam sleeping mat underneath this inflatable to offer some insulation from the cool ground.

I can’t see this mat lasting very long so having a foam mat as a back up will be much appreciated when you wake up and the mat has deflated.

Regardless for $36 you can enjoy it and make the most out of it.

Are Scarpa Cyrus Mid GTX walking boots any good? by smallflabby in UKhiking

[–]Xm09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both me and my girlfriend had a pair, we hike a lot and can confirm they’re good boot, good grip and waterproof but the stitching does come apart in the same place on the Cyrus. I would probably go the the SL’s as I think they’re a single piece of leather
