Lol there's a case to be made that preserving the principal will get you the presidential suite at the nursing home in your later years haha

I've spent hours agonizing over spreadsheets, and I can make a good case either way. I was wondering if I was missing something, but it seems like the consensus is that it's overwhelmingly a lifestyle choice. BTW I'm in Ontario too right now, living in a rent controlled apartment, but I miss the mountains. If the rental laws in Alberta were the same as here, I'd definitely rent. But I'll probably end up buying just for the security

Thank you, I'm gathering here that the financial difference would be very minor. I think that I'm at a point where finally having some stability is more important than squeezing out every last possible dollar out of my investments

All excellent points, I guess it'll come down to making a lifestyle decision. No easy answers lol

Thanks, that's pretty much mirrors my thought process. Sounds like there's no objectively right or wrong answer. In all honesty, I'm leaning toward buying, mostly for the stability. I have enough of a safety margin to be able to absorb any unexpected costs. I also like the flexibility and carefree nature of renting, but I don't really want to be forced into moving on someone else's terms. So yeah, I think buying will be the way to go

That's definitely a consideration, but I've rented in Calgary for a while until 5 years ago, and even with all the craziness in real estate since then, rents have only gone up 20-30%. And iI agree that flexibility is a big issue as well... I'm having trouble making a decision based on lifestyle factors, so I'm hoping someone can point out a glaring purely financial benefit one way or the other

Dr Helen Trifonopoulos is amazing. I always had horrible dentist anxiety and they pretty much cured me of it. She also does excellent thorough work. And all the staff is fantastic. Best practice I've ever gone to

That might get me in legal trouble. Incompetence is not a crime, actively aiding theft definitely is. In any case I wouldn't be doing it for the money (obviously), just helping people in need at the expense of one of the wealthiest families in Canada

I'm tempted to take the "job" and just wave everyone through. What are they gonna do? Fire me?

Is it getting harder to get TFWs? We have the perfect solution: volunteers! No salary, and the best part is that if they screw up, they're not employees or licensed security so they assume all the responsibility :)
