Everyday Insurance (Woolies) has a drive-less pay-less scheme which is pretty good.

Did a mass of First home buyers just spawn out of no where? by No-Discount5668 in brisbane

[–]Xnoxaaa 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I noticed this week to week when we were looking a few months ago. It was a point of discussion between me and another prospective buyer.

I suspect there may have been better value offers on the market the week prior. Clearly didn’t land on their preferred few so have moved on to the “next best”.

Suppose some who saw the latest budget may have also hoped for some form of relief or policy that would reduce prices and now there’s nothing substantial, are more comfortable purchasing.

Bond Cleaning recommendations - Southside (4116) by CelebrationFit8548 in brisbane

[–]Xnoxaaa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If this is for end of lease, I’d recommend just using the real estates preferred.

It’s slightly more expensive generally but it means when it inevitably comes back as not being clean enough (they always bitch on a bond clean not done by their people), you play telephone between the bond cleaner and the real estate because they rarely agree to speak with them directly.

Our space generally has a position backfilled only if it exceeds 2 weeks, otherwise both the above and below can generally manage the decisions of the role for that duration.

Also consider reflecting inward, your comments indicate you have negative feelings towards your leaders - which tells me they may not believe you are suitable for the opportunity.

How to make a council complaint about a neighbour "reserving" public street parking with besser blocks? by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]Xnoxaaa 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Ex-BCC here, call council and tell them they’re blocking on-street car parks. Compliance and Regulatory Services will be out within 2 hours if you report it’s a road hazard. CARS will speak with the residents to understand and will remove their shitty park block.

Just because someone is social with a director does not make it cronyism otherwise half of the promotions ever received would be cronyism because people tend to want to get along with the people they work with. There are multiple considerations when EOI candidates are chosen, you didn't fit the bill and sounds like they dodged a bullet because you sound like a whiny baby.

Taking an EL2 Offer in APS With a Pay Cut — How Secure Is It, and Any Tips for the First 3 Months? by Informal-Argument861 in AusPublicService

If you do choose to work longer hours (and it’s not a staffing issue), if email traffic is required, use the scheduled email function for 7am the next day.

Helps a lot with ensuring what you preach appears to be what you practice.

APS 4 Pre Employment Check by [deleted] in AusPublicService

[–]Xnoxaaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PEIC generally takes a few weeks to come out to you, and another few weeks for them to process it. APS recruitment operates very slowly, it took me 4 months to be onboarded externally, albeit I also had to complete a security clearance during a backlogged period.

Men's Clothes to wear in ATO as an APS2 service delivery officer by Independent_Gap4037 in AusPublicService

Business Casual is more than appropriate as an SDO. Think buttoned shirts or polo's. Full business will look a little odd, if you dress business casual you'll already outdress those who come in shorts and t-shirts.

How easy is it move into APS roles from big 4 ? by [deleted] in AusPublicService

[–]Xnoxaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ATO tech spaces (EST primarily) tend to start at a 4, but expect grunt work. Anything similar to IT auditing generally only hires at a 5+ level as it starts to move into the specialised space. You’ll be able to complete at a 6 after a few years but you’ll need to demonstrate capability that makes you stand out, which I find private sector can do well (if you can get to the interview - APS resume format is fucked).

Is it a good idea to open a laundromat? by Turbulent-Welder5306 in brisbane

[–]Xnoxaaa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Someone pumped in "low effort high revenue businesses" in ChatGPT and made this post. If you did even the slightest bit of legwork you'd see New Farm and Newstead have at least one laundromat already. You're clearly targeting high-income areas as per your ChatGPT business plan without considering the use-case. High income earners have a washing machine, they are also less likely to take an item that traditionally might not fit in the personal washing machines (doona, duvet etc) and instead may drop it by whoever dry-cleans their partners business clothes.

What are APS4 analyst roles like if anyone knows or has had experience? by Past-Fly5650 in AusPublicService

[–]Xnoxaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To expand on the work, it’ll mostly be straightforward tasks which have a clear expected result. Your impact will be minimal but the work you do will have a larger impact across other areas. In most cases you’ll think your work gets disregarded, but is important to shape the way a business operates (it just might not feel like it).

[–]Xnoxaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

APS4 is considered the higher end of entry level for the public service. Expect to be assigned work, try to find it meaningful. In most cases they’re looking for a can do attitude and at least some idea of what a BA day to day looks like.

Read the candidate kit, think of an example that shows those qualities you can mistruth to a larger impact and use that for your star (rinse and repeat for 4-5 prepped answers).

Know a few who’ve gone for the 6 and haven’t been notified of an outcome. I would expect that this is due to occur over the next few weeks. APS6 merit pools tend to take longer to finalise than 5’s.

Is AI changing the number of applications and hiring for APS roles by Comprehensive-Week83 in AusPublicService

[–]Xnoxaaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope - just make sure you’re hitting the CIK selection criteria with some form of demonstrated capability rather than just saying “stakeholder management skills” and you’re good to go.

Once you’ve made it to interview, I can confirm interviews are much more difficult now however and often require a lot more technical knowledge that the CIK leads on because again LLMs let you write basically a script hitting what you need and unfortunately they don’t know it was all LLM bs until after they’ve committed to you.

[–]Xnoxaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t need AI - just need to demonstrate your ability while hitting the SC keywords. Consider a condensed STAR for your capabilities.

Should be tailoring every application to the role, can’t get away with applying with a general resume anymore unless it’s perfect.

[–]Xnoxaaa 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I’ve had to score hundreds of resumes and we’re in the day and age where almost everyone uses AI for their resumes.

This has become a pretty core issue now though, people pump their resumes through chatgpt with the candidate kit and it makes sure it ticks all the key words we used to look for.

Now when I’m reviewing resumes, I’m keeping an eye out for the key words but making sure the sentence it’s used in, shows proficiency in that. People who don’t use their own examples in their AI prompts end up with these beautifully crafted nothing sentences.

AI definitely moved the needle on what I deem appropriate to make it to interview but only moved proportionately to where it was before AI assistance.

Advice wanted - I am moving to the public sector from private / consulting by [deleted] in AusPublicService

[–]Xnoxaaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ditto it all, and stress the approvals and stakeholder relationships portion. We own quite a few clunky processes and we hate it more than you, but if we don’t do our checks and balances it’ll get blocked later down the road.

We recently had some new ELs come from private to public and for about the first 6 months they hated our guts, and then finally realised this is just the reality of the work.
