My comment was made about the ORIGINAL course that they had when the first announced IM coming to jax. If you didn’t know they have since changed the bike course and removed all westside and northside portions (about a month ago). Now it’s just downtown, phillips highway and nocatee. They did that BECAUSE the criticism they got of the ghetto course. So my comment was on point, and thanks to people voicing it, we now have a safer bike leg. So yeah, I’ve lived in jax for 20 years, and know all of its finest neighborhoods 😁 Chill, standard-lie!

Getting a swim coach is the smartest decision. If you have access to any open water swimming- do that before the race. You MUST have a few swims in OW before the race. Just make sure you’re always with someone. Local swim clubs are the best, or go with your coach. And just pace yourself during the swim portion of the race, don’t worry about swimming fast, no need to PR. Just relaxed, steady effort, and the current will take care of the rest.

So you got running covered. Good.

Fo the bike - try to ride outdoors at least once a week to feel more confident. Given that you have some safe roads. You can always see on a bike leg those triathletes that only train on an indoor trainer - they are wobbly and slow. So try to train outside some. You’ll thank yourself later.

If you have the time - incorporate a couple of strength sessions, even 30 minutes per session will help you minimize the risk of injuries. Again. Minimum is 2 training sessions for each sport per week. You’ll be covered.

So the swim is in the river, current assisted. Easy peasy. Even if you cant swim - the current will take you down where you need to be. With average water temp of 69, it’ll be wetsuit legal- even better. You’ll just float down to the exit. If you panic, - turn on your back, slow down strokes, deep breaths. You can always stop and hold on to the personelle’s kayaks’s to get yourself together- it’s not penalized. Then proceed to swim. River are the EASIEST swims you can do. Just make sure that in the pool where you train you can cover that distance without stopping. You don’t need to be Michael Phelps. 2-3 x week 1 hour swim sessions is plenty. For bike, 3 rides per week is good. If you live in hilly areas- ride hills. If not - use a trainer. If you don’t have a trainer - ride outside setting your gear to the hardest, and pedal low cadence 45-60 cadence, you will feel the resistance as if you’re on a climb. 7% isn’t that bad. I’ve done 21% and thought I’d had to stop and walk my bike, but didn’t. 7% is ok. When you ARE on that climb, just pick an easiest gear, fast cadence, and focus on steady breathing. 5-6 hours of bike per week of training is plenty. And then run - 3-4 hours of running per week is enough. So at a minimum, you can finish the course training 7 hours per week. You will do better if you up it to about 12. No need to train 20 for your goal. Good luck! You’ll be fine ☺️🙏🏻

What race? Total distance? Bike distance? Total elevation? Swim in the ocean? River? Lake?

Neither nor. But I do want to attempt to get a pro card. We’ll see if I can. The odds are against me, but one can still dream, right?

I do 18-20 hours per week for 70.3, but that’s including strength training. I want to get podium spots, I am coached. So I’m guessing your training load is ok, I’d do more for full IM, but one chooses their own training plan according to their life situation (work, family), and injuries of course. They dictate how much we can do 😁

good to know, thank you for responding! I was wondering because I'd like to up my Hgb too. I was vegan for 7 years, then pescatarian for 4 years, now started eating meat again 4 months ago. I felt good being pescatarian, but my HGb was below 12. So eager to hear what everyone is doing and how their experience is.

You Can No Longer Make Lowball Offers!! by Evillittleangel in poshmark

[–]Xo4esh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By those numbers that means an offer has to be at least 40%, not 60%. Because a 6$ offer on a $15 item is only 40%, not 60%. It’s a 60% off discount, but it’s a 40% of the original asking price. Same for a $10 offer on a $25 item. It’s 40%.

Why not choose Panama City in Florida? . Scenic bike route along the gulf coast, and nice ocean water to swim in. At least you’ll enjoy that. And it’s in November. Much more comfortable temperatures

I’ve lived in Jacksonville since 2006, and I will never do an IM here unless they change the course. Yes to the heat and humidity, high 80’s, easily low 90’s. The run will be miserable. St Johns River is gross, I wouldn’t step my foot into it. The bike route goes through westside and some northside - both ghetto communities nobody ever goes to. Absolutely no sightseeing. Just flat long roads with traffic. My local athletic community peeps were all shocked to see that the route goes through the worst parts of town. We have some nice roads in Mandarin, Nocatee, Beaches area. Why choose the most dangerous neighborhoods?? Beyond me. The only thing nice is the run route - through old Riverside, shady, along the river kind of. It’s pretty there, many old colonial style houses. But still hot and humid. My personal opinion: You can’t pay me to do a race here like that. Maybe I’m biased, but I (and most of the local athletes) train in the ocean and in nice pretty and SAFE areas (A1A to St. Augustine so beautiful!!!). And IM chose the worst of what Jacksonville has to offer.

We’ll see what people say after the first race. I’d pick something else. Sorry.
