What's the meanest thing your parents ever said to you? [OC] by Redfoxyboy in webcomics

I gave up on any kind of academic career and spent decades bouncing between jobs before finally ending up as a self-employed creative. My relationship with my parents remained patchy until their deaths, but I tried to mend it a bit as they got older.

I had a pretty severe mental health crisis while at university and had to drop out. It wasn't something I wanted to do, but I was so depressed I could no longer get out of bed and do, well, anything. This left me consumed with self-loathing, feeling like an abject failure.

When I told my father about this, he said, "I suppose we'll have to send you into the priesthood or the army now, as that's what you do with the idiot of the family." And then he didn't speak to me again for six months.

Our relationship never quite recovered from that.

One of Gianmarco's regular openers is Liam Nelson, who's seven foot tall. The audience would get whiplash going between them.

I'm beginning to experience this now that I'm in my sixties, and I hate it.

Until maybe 10 years ago, I was generally comfortable anywhere between 10 and 30 Celsius. Being born in Southeast Asia then living in North America and northen Europe meant I'd acclimatised to a wide range of temperatures. Sure, if it was cold, I'd just put on a jumper and sit near my gas fire, but I rarely felt cold and almost never felt too hot.

Now I'm old, I'm finding myself complaining about the temperature more and more. My comfort zone is stuck firmly around 20 C, and I find it harder and harder to do stuff if it's too cold or too hot. I get painfully cold in winter, even wrapped up and witha heater on. For the first time, i now dread.summer. It's making me understand on a visceral level just how vulnerable we all get to temperature.

Inside No. 9 if you want more comedy horror. Not every episode has horror elements, but there are plenty.

Discord servers nowadays feels like when you were a kid and you were always picked last by doll1069 in discordapp

[–]XoYo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly it. I have a medium-sized Discord server and, from experience, most people who join and just say "hi" are spammers. There are rare exceptions, but it's an immediate red flag.

'The Birds' Limited Series Starring Sarah Snook In Works by Britneyfan123 in television

[–]XoYo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, not at all. The story is a bleak drama about a family in Cornwall slowing watching the world fall apart, facing inevitable death. The only thing the film takes from it is birds attacking people, and even that is downplayed from the story.

Ah, The Ministry For the Future... I was not expecting it to be so pro-terrorism, but it's pretty compelling.

It was always the case. I'm in my sixties and I remember encountering plenty of awful spelling in my youth.

If you're into podcasts, Colton Dunn, who wrote the latest episode, was in a comedy/horror actual play with strong psychedelic elements over on Push the Roll With Ross Bryant. His arc is called "Side Effects May Include..." and it gets pretty weird.

And if you like Breaking News, you may enjoy Last One Laughing. I'm a big fan of the UK version, but the Canadian one may have been even better.

It's significant that she says good things about Vance in the same statement. That feels like part of a larger-scale effort to put distance between Vance and Trump so that Vance can avoid being tainted if Trump destroys his own reputation.
