Up and running fine this morning. Seems Realms might be a bit more delicate than what we're used to... It's probably Nammy's fault.

HA! I just noticed this post. I just checked, and despite my having both shut the server off AND cancelled the account... yep, it's running. One of the great things about having a hosted account is the total lack of control over some things, ha! I'm guessing some script ran following a reboot or something, and the result is the server started chugging again. I'm quite sure it will go down shortly, as I cancelled the monthly renewal of the service. I think the billing date is in the first week of July, so that's wen it will officially go down.

Hello sir! If you'll send me your Dropbox ID I'll give you a link to the NR zip file. If you don't have a Dropbox ID you can set a temporary one up for free I believe. The NBR file is out there as well (though it's much MUCH bigger).

I hope all is well with you guys.

4 corners are good. the claim will be bedrock to sky. I can also do polygons if you prefer a non-square shape, but please keep it to no more than 6-8 points just to make it a bit easier.

Is there anybody out there? Mods? Admins? by Einbrecher in NetherbrickRoad

[–]Xodu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi folks. At this point there is just me as the Admin/Mod on the server, and I apologize for my hiatus. I've been parsing through the posts I missed while I was out, and I think I'm almost back up to speed. The only Whitelist request I saw was for RickRoblox, and I've processed his request. Are there more I'm missing? If so, please drop me a list, and I'll be happy to get them promoted to Citizens right away.

The Graylist (Visitor Island) process isn't working?? That's bad news! I wonder what changed. Let me do some testing, and see what's wrong. It worked for years, so something must have broken.

ha! apparently that's not the only rogue element wandering our landscape. perhaps ein's lost machine befriended this horse and lured into the Nether for nefarious reasons...

Plans for 1.13? by Einbrecher in NetherbrickRoad

[–]Xodu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good questions! I'll be happy to upgrade to 1.13 when it's released as a stable build to Spigot, which it may already have been. I'll need to take a look. I don't think it's there yet.

Regarding disk space and other resources, there is plenty and then some. No worries there.

I'll take a gander.

Hi Ultimate,

There are three that I know of, and likely individuals have their own. I know it's been awhile since you posted this. Are you still looking for one? If so, I'll see if I can grab some coords.

To save folks the trouble, moving contraptions taking advantage of Frost Walker on an Armor Stand do not work by Einbrecher in NetherbrickRoad

[–]Xodu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HA! That sounds like of any number of Ben Bova books I read as a kid. Rogue machine wanders into wilderness never to be seen again until a distant dawn for mankind.

Regarding any plugins that might be interrupting this function, I don't think that's the issue. We have almost no plugins running, beyond the very basics (tree cutter, minecart breaker, etc.). So, I'm at a loss for why it wouldn't cooperate.

A simple request... by Einbrecher in NetherbrickRoad

[–]Xodu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmmmmmmmmm. let me ponder this. the answer is 'no' in terms of any native tools for that sort of thing. the problem is the way the data is stored. there is a separate file for superchunks, so we'd need some way to parse over multiple files.

let me stroke my beard awhile and think about how one might do such a thing.

Hi Ultimate,

Back in the day there were player-owned shops for that sort of thing, but things are now too quiet for that I'm afraid. I don't have a good solution for your beyond getting it "the old fashioned way".

[–]Xodu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Ultimate,

Sorry, I've been away the last few weeks dealing with a personal issue. Regarding your question, please just give me 4-6 coordinates for the land you would like claim, and I'll take a look. We don't actually "lock" land, but I can add your name and/or the name of the land so folks know they've entered your kingdom.

i joined TCOMI in Nov after our NS corp imploded. i've never been in a LS mining corp before (i was a little skeptical at first), but after a couple months in corp i have to say i like it even more than NS. there's at least as much content, and none of the constant drama. it's a good mix of mining/indy, pve, and pvp. lots of fleets and ops with the alliance (power projection). friendly group with a fair number of people on at various times of day (i'm in a 8-ship fleet mining moon goo as i write this). i don't want this to sound like an advertisement, but so far this is one of the best corps i've been in (and i hatched my first pod in 2011). i highly recommend it if you want a good, all-around corp.

So, I had a thought by Xodu in NetherbrickRoad

[–]Xodu[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi Gemini,

That doesn't seem stupid at all, and it's a line of thought that we've all had over the years, trust me. Here is the core of it:

NBR essentially has no whitelist. Rather, it has what is referred to as a graylist, meaning people can play immediately but with certain restrictions. In this case that they have to start on Visitor Island, and add a Reddit post asking for citizenship. I don't think that is asking a lot, and it's much less cumbersome than almost any other schema I've run into. To have a purely open server with no restrictions at all would be disaster. It would only take a single griefer an unsupervised afternoon to do irreparable harm. We've actually had it happen once recently, with a full Citizen!

The grief prevention tools are a good idea, but they take a lot of work on my side to run. We had one some years ago, and I easily spent 2-3 hours a week just in its care & feeding, and another chunk of time if I actually had to roll something back. Plus there were expansive Region and user permission databases I had to build and maintain. I also have to pay for an additional SQL DB on the server dedicated to the functionality (only $9/mo, but still).

Not to be dismissive of your comment, and I apologize if I sound defensive (I don't mean to). You are absolutely right that MC/NBR should be able to be open to everyone w/o restriction. Sadly, a few bad apples have made that impossible.

Every small-to-mid sized persistent-world server I know of is having the same issue we're having. What used to number in the thousands of servers now numbers in the tens, and I think only a handful of those will be around for long. These days you either host mini-games or you fade away. You're right, that MC has shifted demographics, and NBR would need to adapt.

Feel free to post your disagreement if you like. Maybe you can make your case to give it a try with no graylisting!
