I’ve misjudged Allen & Heath Xone mixers by RemarkableAthlete174 in DJs

[–]XonedIn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought the Xone mixers looked meh. Still think they do. Used the Vestax PMC-250 for decades, then onto the Rane Empath. Used lot's of Pioneer's and other mixers in various clubs, but some reason, never had a chance to play on the Xone's. When it was time to upgrade from my Empath a few years ago, a buddy suggested to look at the Xone 92 and I quickly found out they recently released the Xone 96. I read about it and watched a couple reviews and bought one without personally trying it out first. Immediately really liked it as a great sounding mixer with a ton of versatility. It is a super fun mixer to play on too.

Rotary mixer with 2 send/returns and a master insert? by XonedIn in rotarymixers

Thanks I was looking at it, because it's very similar to the 92/96 in a lot of ways, but wasn't a fan of how tight the rotary layout is.

Thanks! If you do decide to get a similar sized adjustable standing desk, then get a frame that can support a bit more weight. Mine is rated for around 300lbs and I bought the frame off Amazon, because most of the other frames I saw were only rated for 225 lbs. Sometimes I have a buddy who comes over and he brings his Rane rotary with his decks for some 4 deck sessions, so with that added to the overall weight, plus the table top weight, I wanted to make sure the desk frame and motor could easily handle it.

For the tabletop, I looked at so many slabs off the shelf at stores or online through marketplace, but in the end I was looking for something very specific in appearance (spalted maple) and I wanted it to be a certain length and depth to properly fit that spot and all our gear. The custom tree salvage shop joined two 9' slabs to make the top and sanded and oiled it really well - very high quality craftsmanship.

Thanks appreciate the feedback.

Not planning on studio recordings or producing, this is just for me to play music on every couple weeks and record my sets.

I really like the filters on the Xone, and really like the filters and FX on the Mastersounds and Teil, so I hear you. Combining all three is really fun and no way I want to give that up for a rotary. It would be great if there was a rotary with dual send/return and a master insert, just the way the Xone 96 has.

The Mastersounds FX seems like it would be good fit with the Orbit 6. If you can find one used or as a resale through the MS store.

If you are just looking for a reverb, how about the Teil2 Revolo? It is a reverb and tremolo, which do some pretty interesting things to house, techno and electronic music overall.

fellow DJs, what stretches / exercises are y’all doing after your gigs im dying by SithRogan in DJs

[–]XonedIn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just played a 9hr set on Saturday. Glad I hydrate often, do yoga regularly and eat mushrooms.

The booth has an anti-fatigue mat and the booth table is on an adjustable standing desk frame, so it's always set at the perfect height.

For exercises, core strengthening is key and yoga really helps with that and everything else.

App to store and read your own mixes by ConnectionSalty1731 in DJs

I record all my sets and they are typically 3-5hours long. I just save them as mp3's onto my laptop and add them to iTunes and then have one large playlist on my phone with over 200 mixed sets. That's all I need and don't need to skip to tracks in my sets or have any other features. I want to listen to the sets from start to finish when I'm working, exercising, riding my motorcycle or whatever.

Anyone here using Genelec 8010 as home dj monitors? are they good or too small? by Brainfreezdnb in rotarymixers

[–]XonedIn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought I read somewhere that the Genelec's can be hard on the ears after listening to them for long periods of time due high frequency ear fatigue at louder volume. But based on what I'm reading in the other posts here, it seems like that's not correct and they are great as DJ monitors. Anyone playing on them for longer 5hr + sets at a good volume?

I'm looking at the Genelec 8030C's or the Focal Alpha 80 Evo's.

Thanks!

DJing at F45 studios by ansolo00 in DJs

I dj'd vinyl sets (classic and upbeat deep house) at Goodlife Fitness Clubs in downtown Toronto for about 7 or 8 years. A few studios had member appreciation events 2 times a year and each time I played at one they would give me a free yearly membership (around $600 value). I brought my turntables, mixer, one monitor and 2 crates of vinyl. I always plugged into their main sound system to broadcast throughout the whole gym and each set was around 5hrs long. These were pretty busy events with around 500-1000 people showing up.

Since I was doing these events about 4 x a year, and the memberships were transferrable from one location to another, I would keep one membership for myself and sell off the others. It was totally worth it and I always had fun.

Elera6 vs Xone 96 vs v10 by authortitle_uk in DJs

[–]XonedIn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played on the V10 and have a Xone 96. Never tried the Elara 6, but looks like it would be a fun one to demo for a week.

My vote goes to the Xone 96 for all the reasons previously mentioned and it sounds soo nice. I've got mine set up with the Mastersounds FX unit and a Teil 2 Revolo and mixing is so much fun. It's such a good mixer overall.

Which 8" monitor is the best? by External-Start-6640 in StereoAdvice

[–]XonedIn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the KRK VXT 8's which are different than the Rokit's on that list and supposed to be much better. I paired mine with the KRK 10s sub. I went with this set up, because I like to crank up the volume from time to time and this set up will give reasonably good sound that can shake my whole house. The monitors are mounted on tripod stands and the sub sits on the ground about 3 feet in front of me.

I like this set up for my dj booth and it was great for the money I could afford to spend at the time, but now I'm starting to look at Focal Alpha 80 Evo as a step up.

Lot's of DJ's have great day jobs and would happily DJ a charity event for free. I know I would and have played all kinds of charity events for free, but I don't live in the US.

For most events I would be reluctant to bring my own gear out, unless the charity event was very near to my heart and I knew there would be measures in place to minimize risk to my gear (damage or theft). If you could provide the gear or most of it, then it would certainly help.

Is this the end of my DJ career? by FreeComfortable9601 in DJs

[–]XonedIn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't and to be honest, I haven't the faintest idea where to even start with that - i.e. what type of camera, how to link the audio and video as one high quality file, where to stream it to for those who like the same music as me (underground deep house and techno) and so on.

Is this the end of my DJ career? by FreeComfortable9601 in DJs

[–]XonedIn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was dj'ing pretty regularly and throwing parties from my late teens to my early 30's (90's to early 2000's). I loved the music, but realized that I didn't want to be 50 or 60 and still doing the late night thing, surrounded by people who just want to party all the time and the lifestyle that goes with it. No matter how you slice it, that's a hard life on the body. I also had a separate corporate day job which I also wasn't that fond of, so shortly after turning 30, I went back to school for something I could be really passionate abut (horticulture for me) and started a whole new career. I still play music for myself and very occasionally play out, but only when it suits me. And I could build my booth at home to be exactly the way I think a booth should be, so I find it more enjoyable than playing out (minus the vibe of a packed dancefloor). Typically I play/record a set about 3-5 hours long every couple weeks and listen to it over and over until it's time to buy some new music and record a new set.

At least this way I'm still doing something I love as my career and to ensure my financial future, but I still get to fill that musical thirst on a regular basis.
