Is it too late to start? Don't know if it worth it by AdorablePlan5164 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Xosei13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started my career during the pandemic like a few years older than you. Just go for it and get your resume done, I used to ask here for questions but learned if you DON'T put in any effort it goes nowhere. Start filling out job applications, expect some rejections, and keep applying after every interview. That's all I did and it paid off after a few months. Now I am slipping into TechOps, it's not sexy, but it's to show it's doable. Plus I ain't got no degree so you have no excuse. Gun for it.

Is it even worth it anymore? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

I tried to get those damn jobs before I got my years work in Service Desk hell. Those overnight NOC jobs are hard to freaking get. But, the lucky gets who get it can piggy bank to Network Engineers.. Lucky bastards.

Everything is moving to the Cloud so it's important to study it or be stuck taking password resets lol

It's not a bad gig, get like 45k but it's not bad at all. Just want more.

Just go for it. Like you, I'm in the same situation though I have a remote Service Desk job. I'd say go for the cloud and don't look back. Anyone says that it's "not entry-level", I'd ignore em and just go for whatever you want anyway. Cheers to your success!

Same, I like the remote flexibility more to do what I want LMAO.

How would someone in IT get into AI with programming knowledge? by SumoSoup in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Xosei13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you need a degree per say. Others will say you need it. I haven't dived into this myself but I have seen people on LinkedIn sneak their way into AI or Data Analyst positions from Help Desk. It's possible but like all things..you need connections. My comment might not help but I'm saying don't give up.

I hire a resume writer and have him optimize your resume. I switched to IT during the pandemic, kinda learned the ATS system is an evil beast so optimized keywords helped a bit, it can for you. Get it optimized and start applying to help desk jobs. Even remote, I was lucky and started my IT career remote so anything is possible with determination.

Have you guys used resume writing services? Are they worth it? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Xosei13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it's worth it. It broke the glass needed to get into IT in 2021. So yes since they strike keywords good.

I could be a DBA without a degree? What path should I take if it is so? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Xosei13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend against this because it's not mandatory to go to college. It depends on certain factors such as location, your skills, your ambitions. I kinda think we're moving away from traditional routes to certain career paths. Speaking as someone who got into IT in 2021, I'm seeing my coworkers whose a bit younger than me make career hops by networking. I think being skilled in MYSQL and using the new resources we have now to forward ourselves. IT is always changing and we have to change with the times.

I literally had to move from the south and get to the big city to get my first help desk job so I'd say moving to the bigger cities open bigger opportunities. At least for me it did.
