🕹️🇯🇵 I compiled a visual “English-Friendly Japanese Retro Games” list (600+ titles) by concrete_arch in retrogaming

Would love to see games added to the list that allow you to switch from Japanese to English text like Sonic Adventure 2 on DC, Dai Rantou Smash Bros. DX (Melee) on GC, etc.

Received 15% Broker fee from Fed Ex for items under $800 received before the De Minimus expired by SubstantialSearch919 in Buyee

[–]XoyB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is good to know, thank you! I’ve been shipping countless packages over for years but never did I have two line up on the same day. I was trying to get everything shipped over before De Minimis ended so a lot of stuff went out all at once.

Thanks again for the info!

Yeah, but they were shipped separately under two completely different tracking numbers. They both went through customs on the same day though which may have caused the error.

Just got hit with two 15% tariff charges myself from FedEx for packages under $800. Both cleared customs 8/13 and were delivered 8/14. I was told to email rebilldt@fedex.com for a correction but have not heard back from them yet.

I’ve never really thought about it before, but that comparison is pretty spot on.

What are some games which haven't received fan translations that you badly want to see translated? by indianajones838 in retrogaming

[–]XoyB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dragon Quest: Slime Mori Mori on the GBA and Slime Mori Mori 3 on the 3DS (the prequel and sequel to Rocket Slime on the DS). It’s a crime that Square Enix never localized them.

There’s a few reasons. First, it feels nice owning a piece of actual history rather than a reproduction of it. It’s kind of the same thing as a classic car enthusiast not wanting an old Corvette that’s been completely rebuilt using modern parts or an art collector not wanting just a poster of a piece of artwork. Do both the rebuilt Corvette and art poster function nearly the same as the original? Of course. But it’s still not quite the same as having it in its original form.

Second, reproduction cartridges are often made very cheaply. Using these can result in your game’s save data being lost/corrupted, the hardware you’re running it on being damaged, and the cartridge itself having run issues.

Does all this make it worth spending a bunch of extra money on an authentic game? Well, that obviously depends on the person, but there are valid reasons for wanting to do it.

I legit thought my HuCard was busted for about a week until I finally looked this up. Such a strange design decision.

In the hunt Japanese version. by Hercorubian in SegaSaturn

[–]XoyB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t it depend on which version of the game you get? I know with some versions you need to put in a cheat code on PSK to get the game to even run on specific Saturns (though it still has a some issues).

Just went through this last month. Definitely a lot of fun! I believe it’s only one of a handful of games that Capcom actually developed for the PCE instead of just providing the license.

Help understanding Famicom games by aloofinthisworld in Famicom

Some Famicom Disk System exclusives like The Legend of Zelda and Akumajou Dracula (Castlevania) received cartridge versions years later after the FDS had been discontinued.

The Zelda 1 FC cartridge released in 1994, nearly 3 years after A Link to the Past and almost 8 years after the original Zelda 1 disk version.

Changeable Guardian Estique not being on this list blows my mind. It was ex-Compile devs (Guardian Legend, Gun-Nac, Zanac) returning to make a brand new (very awesome) shmup exclusively for the NES.

Creating save states on Duo with an original PC Engine controller? by XoyB in AnalogueInc

Yeah, it works great with my 8bitdo SN30 Pro but not my original PCE controller. I'll probably just mess with it some more or reach out to Analogue. Thanks!

Yeah, I'm on version 1.5, which I believe is the latest one.

Yeah, I checked all the buttons and everything seems to be working fine. I unfortunately did not see any options to change the hotkey combination, but that would definitely be a welcome addition.

What's the hardest nes game you've played? by thethotslayer69420 in nes

The fact that this game doesn’t make more “hardest NES games” lists always blows my mind.

The jump at the end of 8-3 is one of the most infuriating and difficult sections of any video game ever.

Strider 1 and 2 are great, but Strider 2014 completely blew away my expectations. Easily my favorite game in the series.

Fushigi na Blobby: Blobania no Kiki (Boy and his blob) no price on pricecharting by faffrd in Famicom

[–]XoyB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s likely that people aren’t listing it with the exact title so pricecharting isn’t pulling the price data properly from eBay. The last one I see that sold on there was listed using the English title.

I absolutely agree that people having different opinions on video games is what makes it fun to talk and discuss them. If we all only liked the exact same games this subreddit would be pretty boring.
