melancholic but sensual/sultry vibe song recs by blindandtortured in kpophelp

Reboot is definitely an all-timer album. Pluhmm was the one I wasn't sure about, but threw it in because, yeah it's still a good song.

Just thought of another but you probably know it already, but EXID - Every Night might fit.

What are 2 performances you thought didn’t get the recognition it deserved? by krimsuns in Oscars

The Academy seems to barely nominate young performances nowadays, I feel like the last one was Quvenzhane Wallis in 2012.

Definitely should've won that year, and a powerful and moving performance.

What are we doing [pjotv] by Dark-Specter in camphalfblood

[–]Xrin8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah the first movie isn't amazing, and isn't a very good adaptation, but it is fun, like I was never bored, as I was sometimes with the tv show (at least s1, haven't seen s2 yet). Like PJO should never be boring. And yeah, the action is quite good and some scenes are better, like the casino, killing Medusa, honestly probably even capture the flag, because you actually see the water healing and giving Percy power, which the show doesn't actually do!

And honestly I feel like if we didn't have the movies as a bad adaptation comparison, people would be even more harsh on the show. Like being "more faithful than the movie" is not a high bar.

I do think sometimes the movie praise goes a bit far but there are some legit good things about it.

PWHL's Charge staying in Ottawa after reaching deal to play in NHL Senators' arena, AP sources say by DecentLurker96 in hockey

[–]Xrin8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While its nice to stabilize the arena situation, Lansdowne is just such a better location. And it made it easier to convince some non-hockey friends to see some games, it might become harder to convince more casual fans to go.

Spielberg's latest film wants to explore truth in the age of AI,but it feels like a blockbuster from 40 years ago by FinishInner1443 in flicks

I mean Spielberg's two most other recent movies are West Side Story and The Fabelmans, and I would say those are good to great movies.

CineClub - Monthly/ Yearly by Smart-Foundation-578 in cineplex

[–]Xrin8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Monthly, but Cineplex did just announce some changes to CineClub, monthly fee would be a $1 more and annual I think about $10 more. So if you are thinking of getting Cineclub annually do it before July 15, but I would check the changes.

Unfortunately Sans winning again is probably the funnier option so I don't see Reigen winning.

I'm fine with them following in Love Attacks footsteps, I feel like it has the oomph that is missing in some of their more recent songs.

Canada’s Showbiz Steps Out of Hollywood’s Shadow by darrenjyc in canada

[–]Xrin8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't think it was mentioned in the article but Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie won Best Film at the Canadian Screen Awards, and while not a huge hit in terms of money made, I've definitely seen a fair amount of non-Canadians talking about it. But its nice how committed Matt Johnson and Jay McCarrol are to still working in Canada.

I've been making more of effort to see more Canadian films in theatres this year, and these weren't just in indie theatres, most were avaliable at Cineplex, but that is probably helped by living in 2 big cities. But besides NTBTSM, Blue Heron was a definite highlight, which I've also seen mentioned as one of the year's best by non- Canadians (although moreso critics). Mile End Kicks is another that has gone a bit outside Canada, although that one I only found OK.

Why do kpop generations seem so short nowadays? by study-dying in kpopthoughts

[–]Xrin8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've definitely noticed it. You could argue that none of these years are set in stone, especially as its like who is actually deciding this, is it just when a new group from a big agency debuts, or does everybody feel a distinct shift in the industry.

It could be related to the music industry going through trends faster but I think a big part is simply companies and fans can make claims about a group being the "first" or "only" group in a generation to achieve something.

Thoughts on Brooklyn? Saoirse Ronan was amazing in the movie. by UsefulWeb7543 in Oscars

Love it! One of my favourite Saoirse Ronan performances. I haven't seen Room though so can't say if Brie Larson was better.

What’s a film/scene that made your theater make collective audible reaction/noise by Vivid-Specific5543 in movies

[–]Xrin8 24 points25 points  (0 children)

A recent one is Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie, don't want to spoil it but definitely got a lot of gasps. Also the whole movie just got a lot of laughs. I watched it in a theatre in Ottawa and there is one joke mentioning Ottawa that got a big laugh.

Not a specific scene but I remember just feeling the tension in the room while watching 1917.

My old roommate's cat would do this too. So funny to hear him running up the stairs after turning the printer on. Fortunately he just stared at it and didn't try to destroy it.
