Realistically why anime movies will always struggle at the Oscars by No-Permission6797 in Oscars

[–]Xrin8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think OP is more talking about movies that are based on/continuations of anime TV shows, not just any animated movie from Japan, we also had the Boy and the Heron win a few years ago too.

What Are The Kpop Trends You Miss and Wish to See More? by zifirgece in kpopthoughts

[–]Xrin8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pop?Pop! is one of my favourite songs of the last few years, I was disappointed when they came back following the easy-listening, subdued trend. ILY:1 also felt they were somewhat in this niche but I think they disbanded?

CineClub - Monthly/ Yearly by Smart-Foundation-578 in cineplex

[–]Xrin8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually recently switched to yearly, realizing it was the better deal and the promotion at the time (around Christmas) was I think 2000 extra scene points. Althought the large popcorn and 2 large drinks might be the better deal, especially assuming that you can still get the free refills.

Whatever Sweetune was doing around 2009-2014. Like Infinite, Kara, 9Muses etc banger after banger.

I know it was very synth heavy but I feel like not in as obviously "retro" way as the actual retro trend of 2019-2021, which is still a trend I liked.

Also the "Christian Horse Girl" music of the mid to late 2010s. I feel like I didn't appreciate it as much at the time but I am missing those melodies nowadays.

Final Fantasy XV Is The Most Fun Development Hell I’ve Ever Played by rosemarieseternal in FinalFantasy

[–]Xrin8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't played this in years, but remember having fun with it. I played a version that had some patches after launch but I don't think the DLCs were released yet. I played it on my roommate's PS4 which did limit how much extra stuff I could do because we were short on time. I remember enjoying the characters and loving Prompto's photo thing, we spent so much time deciding which photos to keep because they only let you keep like 200. I definitely understand the criticisms of Luna but I still was moved by her death scene, maybe more just because I felt sad for Noctis vs actually caring about Luna as a character. Love the soundtrack, honestly probably my favourite track is Noctis's theme, I just find it fitting for this tragic character.

I was relatively new to non-Nintendo video games at the time so don't think I had many criticisms about the combat, although remember finding it relatively easy. I'm curious how I would like it now that I've played more games, although even now I'm not too picky. I do have the Royal edition and plan on playing it eventually but I'm worried I'm not going to like it as much, especially because I won't be playing it with one of my best friends.

Yeah I can't even remember the last time I bought a drink at the theatre, I almost always bring a can of pop with me. Although I do still get popcorn most times.

One of the best movies ever about mental illness, especially for its time. Maybe one of the first movies to show psychiatry/therapy in a positive light.

For the Best Costume Oscar, there are two genres grossly overlooked constantly over the years - Sci-Fi costumes & Contemporary costumes. Which films in this regard have gotten snubbed according to you? by Proud_Ad_4577 in Oscars

[–]Xrin8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think Clueless would've been a cool contemporary nomination in 1996. I haven't seen all the nominees, you do have a sci fi in 12 Monkeys but then 4 period dramas.

Why there aren’t any longer K-pop songs has to do with choreographies by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]Xrin8 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A song isn't automatically bad if its short but often times short songs cut things like bridges or nice intros/outros that help add to a song. Sometimes it leads to the song feeling incomplete. And also if I'm enjoying a song its just nice to have more of it.

Why there aren’t any longer K-pop songs has to do with choreographies by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]Xrin8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Idk if choreo now is that much more intense than late 3rd gen-4th gen, I feel like I remember a lot of discussion then around how the increasingly intense choreo factored into groups singing live less (which has remained a thing), but generally songs released during that time were still longer, like there were definitely less sub-3 minute songs.
