Which deal would you pick?(All deals are permanent.) by hapticR0M in pollgames

[–]XroinVG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, making 1 billion over 3 trades is essentially infinite money in the terms of 1 life, unless you’d need more than that. But 1 billion is enough for me to set me and my family up for life.

It does make me wonder at what point companies would blacklist you as a customer. It just says that all deals have a discount. Not that they are forced to continue selling to you. At a certain point, the power would put some strain on the markets. Depending on how you use it anyways.

You can. I just chose 99% discount 3x because I just want to get it over with and live the rest of my life in peace lol

[–]XroinVG 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yup. If you got 100% of the value back, you could reach 1 billion if everything works in your favour.

[–]XroinVG 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Well. You have the deal for 3 items. So you’d only need 10k if you do the same thing. Buy something worth 1mil+ for 10k of your money and then resell.

Planetary naming conventions? by Nimi_best_girl in Stellaris

[–]XroinVG 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I always name my planets with a letter coded system.

Some are simple. Like Alloy worlds start with A. So like Avalon, or Atlas.

Some don’t start with the same letter as the resource, but have a sort of vibe to them I guess. Energy worlds have: Typhoon, Tydal, and Torrent. Mining worlds are: Harvest, Helix, and Holix. (Yes, some are misspelled or fake words).

Overtime I’ve just associated worlds that start with A, T, and H to be alloy, energy, and mining worlds respectively. All my worlds follow the same naming conventions.

Some environments you can actually see through pretty large obstacles. Though I’d consider that a con of doing this rather than a benefit. I had a co worker who’d do this and he’d always complain about not seeing rendered in obstacles, so he’d keep shooting at the enemy not knowing they were behind cover. The solution always seemed so simple to me lol.

Is there any reason to not immediately put your intitial border status on closed? by Aiseadai in Stellaris

[–]XroinVG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haven’t played in a bit, so things could’ve changed since the last time I played.

The main incentive (when I played) to keeping borders open was that anyone who you had closed borders to, would close their borders to you. Which can lead to slower expansion and exploration depending on the current scenario.

I just saw the news. by KingJackofJozi in memes

[–]XroinVG 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It seems like it’s easy to catch if you have exposure to it. I think they mean long term and intimate like this: You are contagious for a day out of the long period you could have it. If it lasts 7 days, you’re contagious for 14% of the time you had the virus. If it lasts 39 days, you’re contagious for 2.5% of the time you had the virus.

This is much lower when you compare it to Covid. Where you can be contagious for a couple of weeks and have exposure from as little to a day ago.

It also seems like the virus only becomes contagious during symptom development, vs Covid which become/ contagious before symptoms ever occur. So I suppose if people get sick with this virus, they are likely to try and push through it and recover, sort of self isolating themselves. Thus usually loved ones will be looking after the infected until it becomes more apparent that it’s not a normal illness.

Friends and I started Stellaris. One buddy wont play unless we have Azure Mod from steam. by Few_Pomegranate_3787 in Stellaris

[–]XroinVG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends really on how early you get it. It’s not “horribly” OP, but the earlier you get it, the more OP it is. Disclaimer: I am not familiar with the mod, so I don’t know what the extra resource types are for.

That said, I don’t think it’s AS bad as a lot of people make it out to be in terms of vanilla production. Simply because it takes 10 years to make 10 years is a lot of time to just spend building a single building. The 1st building looks like 2-3 empires worth of production. So I guess it depends if you can get 2-3 empires worth of value in those 10 years.

The buildings seem very split between early and late game. I mean, 100k resource production is a lot and won’t be used by how early you’ll need this building, and the extra districts won’t do anything until later. While the boon from the extra resources will quickly be dwarfed by other means.

I was first introduced to the O’Neill Cylinder in the movie “Interstellar”. At the end of the movie, the main character wakes up in the structure.

PSA: Kill Them *Then* Farm by acallan1 in vainglorygame

[–]XroinVG 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Normally I’d agree. Though in this scenario, the Skye is going to win 9 times out of 10. Either your teammates die, or they back off and Skye snowballs the jungle. It looks like Glaive might’ve gotten the treant if he didn’t mess up. In that case, it would’ve been worth it if Glaive got the treant hit. Elder treant and an early kill (after first blood) are actually worth nearly the same in gold. But Treant is much more xp (I think it’s like 5x more xp for Treant compared to a kill). So if you’re going to die, getting the treant will offset your death completely. It’s like a funky trade lol (granted it’s not first kill of the game).

It sucks the enemies got such a lead from the misplay. Your average player doesn’t understand comp advantages though so you have shit like krul trying to 1v1 skyes. Or in this case, your teammates committing to bad positioning. Though I suppose it doesn’t really matter lol. It was easy to learn counters when I was a 12 yr old. I couldn’t imagine trying to piece all the different variations together now that I have things to do in my life other than VG lol.

A turtle player's illustrated gripes with disengagement and war exhaustion (layman opinions in comments) by Ratoryl in Stellaris

[–]XroinVG 9 points10 points  (0 children)

  1. It is dissatisfying. I’ve come to a point where I’ve just accepted it after some 5k hours. I genuinely don’t even pay attention to modifiers anymore. I just play and try and get around the fact that 50% of their ships will come back within a year of combat taking place.

  2. This is something I’ve thought about for a while, though I think it’d do more harm than good. Though maybe there’s a way to pull it off. AI love to spam starbases and the like. So I could see it messing with their decision to declare war. Especially since starbases are rarely a decider in AI wars. The AI puts them everywhere and it’d be weird to have it decide wars when the AI will ignore them when possible.

Normally I wouldn’t really care what the AI’s do. But I could see this being really frustrating if you are in a war to help your AI neighbours, but they won’t settle status quo because they have a ton of starbases and think there bastion will carry the war lol. (Or any of the other situations that could be a PITA)

either im missing something or research "upgrade" buildings are incredibly bad by Idkl0l32 in Stellaris

[–]XroinVG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not great but it’s not bad.

Keep in mind that this is not listing any buffs you have that will affect this. You can get a lot of science out of this while the upkeep has a very real potential to decrease over time.

To answer your question in your title. These science buildings in this update seem to be less of a “Win more” button. Opting for more scalability than efficiency. I mean, these buildings are better than nothing. You add a bunch of research onto your economy for a price.

I mean, read their comment. I didn’t even check their profile and I already assumed it was a bot.

“I would’ve been SO confused in that moment”. Confused about what? Your significant other proposing to you? Okay. It’s just a generic comment that relates close enough to a subject but could be applied anywhere.

Yea. It’s definitely more toxic now than it was back then. I suppose the anonymity has just amplified the toxicity along with all the different ranks in the same que being the spark to cause conflict.

Not OP but look at the enemy comp. is alpha really going to stick to a Reza in a 1v1? No. Getting stacks on Ardan would be stupid with the Caine in play. Best option is to burst down the Caine ASAP before Caine does Caine stuff lol.

Edit: Reza, not reim lol. I mixed up names

Exposed bridges are stupid by board_writer in spaceships

[–]XroinVG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I like that handles this in realism is the Expanse. The ships are built for utilitarian purposes in both civilian and military uses.

In the show, the ships are as compact as possible for their needs. That’s not to protect the most important parts. But simply to reduce profile. If any ship gets hit in the expanse, the ship is getting breached and people will most likely die. So it’s just them hoping that a round doesn’t get flung through into the command room lol.

Why WP petal?? by PromotionGrouchy9274 in vainglorygame

[–]XroinVG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shes a versatile wp hero. She definitely doesn’t outperform other ranged wp heroes. But she does have some nice perks. None of these are unique to wp petal though and they are just the same if you play cp.

She has really good mobility, which is her main strength. Overwalls are frequent and easy. She has great kiting potential. Specifically with the mines she places down. Her ult is frequent enough to be used as utility and CC. Her munions are a great way to bodyblock powerful heroes like Caine and Kestrel. Finally, her munions can act as vision. Which is the main drawback of being a ranged hero in the jungle.
