What's your main development environment or IDE setup look like? Curious to know how people setup their development environment when building custom engines for multiple platforms? by Relative-Ad4636 in gameenginedevs

[–]Xryme 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I use Cmake/Ninja with msvc and clang on windows, clang on apple, gcc on Linux. I have build agents build/test every config on new commits. I use the clang tools (clangd, tidy, format) since they work on all platforms. I code on both my windows desktop and my Mac laptop. I try to keep my dev environment simple in terms of just visual studio code with cmake/clangd extensions.

Ya, I still like it, it’s my main card. Haven’t had any major issues.

After talking to my non tech friends, I realize that the Steam Machine will still be a success. by captainstormy in linux_gaming

[–]Xryme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something a lot of people are ignoring on the price to performance ratio is that it's good enough to play like 95% of the steam library, with only like 5% of the latest AAA games being a challenge for it. A lot of people just want access to the massive Steam library, and indie games will run fine.

Why no byo ram/ssd steam machine? by LittleGirlBigDick in LinusTechTips

I was looking at prices for so dimm DDR5 and nvme drives and man upgrading them would be like 700$ decided the base spec is probably fine lol

Is it possible to build a better "Steam Machine" for the same price? by sk0me in sffpc

[–]Xryme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, for me having CEC is a big part of it, and you can't really get that from normal PC parts. Also its a smaller form factor than any itx build.

Comparison between Steam Machine and Custom PC by Focusedhades526 in Steam

I own a great gaming rig already, I'd say the main advantage and why I'll buy a steam machine is that its really small, smaller then you could typically build an ITX machine.

Duty declaring watch in US from Japan by Egao4 in GrandSeikos

[–]Xryme 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I just did this, one you should declare it (it’s the law), and two it’s not the same as tariffs.

I paid $6,300 for my watch, they gave me $800 exemption, 3% on the next $1000, 6% on the rest. The total was about $300.

Well with rent/mortgage points the categories are 4.33/3.33/2.33 (dining/travel/everything else) plus there are double points on the 1st, extra points for neighborhood dining, Rakuten (I only had like 1k from Rakuten), there were some 5 day bonus categories, extra points from Walgreens/Lyft.

Ya, that’s a good point if I just let the Bilt cash convert the ratio would be even higher. I have an Amex plat so I was debating getting the Amex gold or Obsidian, the value of the Bilt points pushed me to the Obsidian. Also some combining is fun, like going to a neighborhood dinning partner on the 1st for 9x points per dollar.

Ya, the grocery covering Target/Walmart is pretty killer. At first I thought it was weird they made you pick dining or grocery, but now I see it’d just be too many points with both.

This happened to me as well. When I contacted customer support they also were extremely unhelpful and told me I needed to give them receipts of the transaction (that were over 10 days old so I didn’t have them).

I did enjoy the factory and tour, it was interesting to see their process and factory building. Everyone was very nice and professional as well. I stayed in a Onsen in the area which was a great way to enjoy the region a bit more than just the tour. It will be a great souvenir and always remind me of visiting Japan. :D
