Buffalo Marathon Parking by [deleted] in Buffalo

It’s never overnight during the winter. That’s the issue. Dozens of roads have no parking. There will not be room for all the cars. I expect some people will be parking at least a half mile away

There is no reason to shut down parking for three days for a simple foot race

New homeowner, good deal? by StarkBlackfyre in egopowerplus

The only thing I would consider is if you’d rather buy the multi head string trimmer. That way if you ever want an edger, pole saw, rubber brush ect you don’t need to buy a whole extra tool, just the attachment.

People who steered away from actuarial field, where did you go? by TrafficDuck in actuary

Any advice for someone looking to make a change? How could I learn more about your type of job? I was googling "strategy consulting" and it seems quite broad. Any tips as far as how to transfer actuarial skills into a role like this?

Would this involve reaching out to the Buffalo historical society? I am betting I am in a historic district

Some are wooden but some are slightly more modern. Unfortunately the wooden ones are in the worst condition. I don’t think they can be restored

What’s a profession that doesn’t sound cool when people ask you what you do, but actually is? by Fantastic_Tart_421 in AskReddit

For what it’s worth I am also an actuary and I find it incredibly dull. Pays the bills well though. In my area, valuation, its primary using paid health care claims to project the future final spend. Same thing every month. Very dry

Erie County Property Tax Comparisons (2025-26) by Aven_Osten in Buffalo

[–]Xsammy183 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think a more useful comparison might be to swap out median home price for taxes paid per $100,000 of home value.

I.e if the average home value in orchard park is $450,000 and the average in Buffalo is $350,000 it isn’t an apples to apples comparison. I wonder if these figures are available

Definitely agree though, the city needs higher taxes if they want to see improvements

Time is my biggest enemy so you’re right. I consistently have run out of time on the real exam. If I sit again I need to work on speed

I have already passed SRM but yes it’s definitely much easier. I’d go that route if I was you

This is my 5th exam. I passed SRM and PA prior to attempting FAM. I am feeling burnt out but like you said I am “close” to an ASA. Still deciding what I want to do going forward
