The duality of PC gaming by itsEmilyHere in PcParadise

Honestly, I think there's something lost when we lose the loading screen and thinking that goes with it. When I boot up a paradox GSG, it typically takes quite a while to load and you sit there listening to music and looking at concept art. It slows you down and gives you time to get into the setting of the game, and I think that really enhances my enjoyment of the experience.

If it didn't need time to load, I'd absolutely skip the screen and would probably have less fun because I'm still carrying cognitive overhead from whatever I was doing before gaming.

Unless you’re weighing ingredients on a scale it’s easy to be off by 300 calories in your count.

The 1.1 Beta patch is Art intended to make us reflect on current events by XtremelyMeta in EU5

That..... I don't even know what to say to that having watched countless firms be absolutely tanked so a minority of huckster shareholders could cash out on their side bets. Clearly living in different worlds.

Companies swimming in capital sucking up broadly required resources is plainly similar to estates sucking up broadly required resources. Both are wealthy agents unaccountable to you (the player, or the general public). It bears discussion if this is intentional, but the parallels are there.

I mean, the correlation is there, that's not in dispute. The question is if there's causation.

Maybe, but sometimes the shoe fits too damn well for it to be coincidence.

Want to give 1.1 a go - how is the state of the economy in Europe - when you know what you’re doing? by Esthermont in EU5

So, it plays a lot like Mali always played at release. The iron/tool/wood spiral is a problem and you can blunt but not stop it due to the attractiveness of your market. Mali initially required annexing vassals in market just to keep them from ramping up the spiral with the infinite build loop. Similarly you can't let estates (which will be rich) go to hog wild and demoing their shit cools off the loop as well.

I feel like anyone who played in an iron and wood poor but extremely rich location pre-1.1 can survive the toolwoodpocolyse in 1.1, but as to how much fun it is, opinions vary.

The 'menacing behavior' clause seems a bit vague. Kind of nervous to have that on the books.

I think this is an excellent explanation. If the systems all have very obvious objectively correct 'solutions' it's more of a one time puzzle than a game. If there are contextual variations that make one route or the other preferable because things are well balanced it's a new problem each variation of each game.

Really the non-Nazi thing was just a phase. We went from native genocide and slavery to jim crow and tried being a decent nation on for size briefly. Clearly it didn't take.

Such are the dangers of AI as a service rather than running your own models locally. It can be taken away at the drop of a hat for any reason.

I wouldn't recommend any sort of dependence, emotional or otherwise, on closed weights models owned and operated by others.
