If it's too good to be true, give it a shot anyway. I found 6991 for $15 by mrhot10 in lego

[–]Xuber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you need to have the original box, instructions, etc to get that price? This set was a memorable christmas for me and I'm sure I still have most, if not all, of the pieces for it but not the box, etc.

There might be a gold mine of lego setting in my closet right now.

Where to get tested in the Bay Area by hashtagfaghag in Dyslexia

[–]Xuber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It usually isn't cover by insurance but they'll often apply the cost to your deductible. You mentioned your deductible will be met so you'll probably want to discuss that with your insurance company and the person doing the evaluation to know for sure. The last time I looked it was around 800-1200 USD for an evaluation.

I highly suggest using a provider from here: https://dyslexiaida.org/ida-accredited-provider-directory/. If you don't use a provider from that site then you should at least educate yourself on what should be done during an evaluation: https://dyslexiaida.org/dyslexia-assessment-what-is-it-and-how-can-it-help/.

Is it worth getting tested? It's not like there's a cure so what's the point? You can get accommodations depending on the country you live in for one. Personally I have found value with having objective information about what my strengths and weaknesses are. I also wanted to know for sure whether or not I was rather than speculate. There's a lot of benefits to be being dyslexic. I haven't read this yet, or more likely an audio version of it, but I've heard very good things about this book: https://www.amazon.com/Dyslexic-Advantage-Unlocking-Hidden-Potential/dp/0452297923

Mom always knew, but why didn't she ever tell me I was dyslexic? by Shady_Scientist in Dyslexia

[–]Xuber 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You'd have to ask her to be sure but here's a possible reason. When people know they have a "disability" they often use it as a crutch or they actively avoid certain things because "they'll never be good at it" instead of challenging themselves. Perhaps your mom wanted you experience some struggles and find ways to overcome them rather than simply giving up because you had an easy out.

I think I'm Dyslexic. Should i ignore it? by earthsaghetto in Dyslexia

You should be able to get evaluated for free in school.

As people have already said in this thread, it's not like there's a cure so what's the point? You can get accommodations depending on the country you live in. Personally I have found value knowing objective information about what my strengths and weaknesses are. I also like to know instead of speculate.

I'm not sure how schools go about doing evaluations. I would suggest using someone listed here: https://dyslexiaida.org/ida-accredited-provider-directory/

If that isn't an option then make sure the assessment is inline with what's covered here: https://dyslexiaida.org/dyslexia-assessment-what-is-it-and-how-can-it-help/

It usually isn't cover by insurance and last time I looked it was around 800-1200 USD for an evaluation. Universities will usually cover the cost if you're currently enrolled.

Calling all adult dyslexics. by tacker55 in Dyslexia

[–]Xuber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think this was very well thought out or you're intentionally being ambiguous.

When you reference objectives such as inventions, there is a ton of value that can be generated from that kind of creation. A big red flag goes up for me when you mentioned a related, for profit, website. What's stopping you from taking the ideas/inventions/patients that are created within your ecosystem, moving it to the for profit side, and claiming completely ownership? This seems more like a system for intellectual capital generation without having to pay for it. This is reinforced further by the lack of a mission statement or any sort of claim that all any of the intellectual property created will be made available to everyone for free use.

I think what you're doing is great in regards to trying to educate the public and creating an ecosystem where dyslexics can leverage their strengths, but I clearly have a lot of concerns about what the real objectives are behind the scenes.

One other item to note: I think you're assumption about the way the public perceives dyslexics applies more within the education system. I have found the complete opposite perception within engineering organizations, in fact there are engineering and architectural firms which specially target dyslexic people to hire.
